So today I decided to park outside my house and my neighbors car happened to be infront of mine. I parked no biggie. Probaly like 10 mins later her daughter knocks on my fence and I go out she tells me it was her mothers car and that she wouldn't disrespect me that way and that I was parked too close to it and that I was hitting it. She didn't say it in a nice way so I just told her that I didn't notice and that I would move it. So I checked and ok yes, I was parked "too closely" but I really hadn't noticed. My mother was in the car with me when I parked and she didn't notice either. My brother was fixing his car outsise and the ladies husband told him I had crashed her car and that I didn't even apologize and that it's a situation where they should call the insurance company! So naturaly I was upset because there is no way I would of hit their car so bad that it would cause damage and I didnt notice it at all. So I'm not subtle at all so I went outside and I asked my brother very loudly what they neighbor had said. Their door was open so I know they heard me. I'm not a very neighborly person. I don't speak to anyone but now I will definetly not give these people a friendly look. 😡 So yeah... do you guys get along with your neighbors? lol

I try my hardest to get along with everyone. We live on post in our military community, and our neighborhood is nothing but families. That being said, sometimes there can be issues if kids aren't behaving or not getting along or whatever. The only times I've had issues was when someone's kids were mean to mine, or when my old neighbors' dog kept digging under my fence, eventually getting my English bulldog pregnant and resulting in a forced abortion to keep her alive. 🙁

I'm pretty easy to get along with, IMO. I am very blunt, though, and I definitely speak my mind and sometimes that can rub people the wrong way. But I have only ever had serious issues with the neighbors with the dog, and some former neighbors whose daughter tried to beat my youngest daughter up; everyone else I'm able to be civil and polite with.

Thats horrible about the dog!
I get along with one of my neighbour, am polite with another, but I absolutely do not get along with the downstairs neighbour. We've had issues with him where he gets mad at us for walking around (obviously he can hear it downstairs because it's a house, not an apartment building). There's nothing we can do about it, even when were the quietest him and his girlfriend will sometimes get mad.

One time we wanted to have a few people over to celebrate a birthday and we were nice enough to warn them (plus all the other neighbours). It was on a Saturday night and we promise the get together wasn't going to go pass 11 (by the law). They flipped on us and made us feel super uncomfortable. Luckily for us, the landlord was very nice to us and understood our situation. We've also had issues where the girlfriend of the guy living downstairs flipped at one of my roommate in a threatening way.

Not only that but they smoke weed everyday all day, now I have nothing against that, I'm quite green friendly, but I personally don't smoke and the smoke goes up through the vents into our section which is pretty annoying. I respect your habits but won't respect you stinking up my air, not only that but I have asthma and can't be placed in a smoking environment (the house is suppose to be smoke free).

All this big rent to say that, yes I feel you. What happened with you is super shitty 🙁 I guess sometimes we just have to tough it up. Often talking will solve the problem, but in some cases you just have to accept that your neighbours will be A-holes.

Totally with you on this. I don't care if people want to get high. I DO care if they are invading other people's living space.

I dealt with a neighbor's pot smoke coming through my vents back in college. Right into my kitchen. Made my food smell not so good. :/
I get along with my neighbours too. I would be lost without them actually, they are wonderful people who are a huge part of my life. I am so thankful to have them just next door.

We had one crappy neighbour over the way, she complained to the council about everything and would walk the streets looking for things to complain about. She was an unpleasent old nag and yelled at me for 5 minutes and brought on a panic attack once when her dog chased my horse and my volly told it off. She drove a few families out of that street. She died a few months back, Karma's a bitch.

Good topic!!!! When I was a kid the answer was absolutely YES!!!! But I mean - and this feels really antiquated to say - but we all really knew each other. I grew up on a dead end street with a bunch of kids my age.... We all went to the same school... We'd build tree forts and ride bikes and hop fences to swim in each other's pools (this was in the southwest u.s) etc... We had lemonade stands, the whole nine...

Now, I live in an apartment complex in an urban city in the northeast u.s and it's different. I mean I get along with my neighbors to the extent I say hello when I see them but I wouldn't go over to borrow a cup of sugar (as it were) - frankly I don't know many of their names and I doubt they know mine. Kinda sad actually, but things change. I do try and be friendly in general to everyone I see. For example, there's this guy in my neighborhood that I talk to - and my husband saw us talking once and after he's like "you talk to him!!?! He's homeless and he's crazy!!!". And I'm like "yeah, but he's nice!".

I do my best to get along with the rest of the neighborhood, but my household is really a group of "black sheep". Everyone in the house (except me) is pretty religious, but even my faithful family members look like atheists compared to the neighbors, who are pretty much fundamentalists. They don't like that we play non-religious music, read "controversial" books, have a television, or dress in a way that they don't approve of.

One neighbor of mine actually came up to me a few years ago and said, "We have such a beautiful neighborhood, OFAWB...You should go inside and put on a skirt instead of the pants you're wearing." Apparently, my wearing pants - and not this particular neighbor's children throwing garbage all over their lawn and picking my mother's flowers - was marring the beauty of the neighborhood.

So I try to be friendly and I try to be polite, but usually I keep to myself. As I've matured, though, I have become more confident in my own views and so I'm much more willing to be honest with my neighbors about what I think (if they care to ask). The most contact I get is when I walk the dog around the block and all the kids either run away, frightened, or ask to pet her.

I don't know any of my neighbors. I'm from a very rural area and my closest neighbors live at least a mile away. People around here pretty much rely on themselves for everything so you don't usually get to know someone just by living by them.

Me and my hubby live in a building which have 9 flats in them, 3 on each floor. We keep to ourselves really, we know our direct neighbour and are friendly but rarely see her. The other neighbour we have no clue about, they've only recently moved in and haven't really seen them! We say hi to the others in the building but we can't really say we're friends with any of them :S We like to keep to ourselves 🙂 We did have an issue once with someone repeatedly parking in our space, (each flat has their own parking space) but we weren't sure who, so my hubby kept leaving notes on their car, they soon stopped lol 🙂

We do with the neighbors to the left of us, we live in a pretty small cul-de-sac and most people keep to them selves, you get maybe 3/4 who will speak to one another. The neighbors to our right (in a separate estate, but only separated by fence line) are pretty noisy, they are working until 11-12 at night on their cars etc which gets annoying.

Where I used to live we didn't get on with our neighbors at all (they lived a few houses behind us), the first day we moved in their daughter who was probably 10 or so at the time had keyed everyone's cars so the police got involved, her kids in general were little @!@!##@! lol. They would try to kick the fence down, throw things at the windows, in the end we had enough and moved, as far as we know though everyone who lived in that area hated them, they even had to get 3/4 CCTV cameras to cover their house due to people doing things to them in return.

We live on a corner lot right across the street from a big field, so we have one neighbor next door and one across the street. The one next door is an older lady and we're pretty good friends! She LOVES our kids and we visit her a lot. She comes over when we're outside to see the kids and chat, and she lets the boys run around in her huge backyard. We get along ok with the ones across the street, but they have some bad domestic issues and we've had to call the cops a few times over the years.

This is kind of where I'm at. I'm friendly with my neighbours and really like a few of them but it's mostly casual greetings and small talk etc and not much else.

I only have one neighbor that I CAN'T STAND and unfortunately he lives on the top floor just like me. I hate him and my dogs hate him which is a bit awkward but my theory is (since they don't mind anyone else in the building) is that it is because of his and his girlfriends EXCESSIVE and VIOLENT fights (to my understanding he seems to be a chronic cheater). Every week... slamming doors, kicking doors, yelling and crying... and oh no, they can't keep it IN the apartment, they have to fight in the hallway where everyone can hear them. As an owner of an insecure rescue dog I'm not so surprised that she despises them. We have to complain about them all the time and have jokingly discussed asking them to break up just for the peace of the house 😉
