I love dogs 😀

I've got a Jack Russell/ Terrier cross. She's the most stubborn, manipulative thing I've ever met but she's a softy at heart. She's the only thing I miss when I'm away from home.

This is my dog, Duke. He's a newfoundland / black lab mix. These pics were taken last summer. He's about 6 1/2 ft long from tip of nose to end of tail and weighs 100+ lbs. He's sooooooooo gumpy and awkward though. He's extremely docile and has barked like 3 times his whole life. He will be 2 in November. I adopted him last April from an animal sanctuary. They had had him the longest because of his size. Traditionally, large black dogs are the last to be adopted. Silly people...

I can't remember myself or imagine my life without a dog. I think they're the greatest thing nature can give man. My dog (mixed) is my life. She's my little girl and I try devoting my life to her. She's super smart (she's learned over 70 words only by listening, she's a great listener, so she understands a lot. really easy with her that way. I never really teach her stuff, she just learns by listening). There are no days in our lives that I don't tell her at least 20 times a day that I love her. I want her to know that. I buy her presents all the time, she LOVES presents (yes, she knows the word for present and knows the meaning behind it. She likes it better when I wrap it up for her). Okay, enough, I can talk about her all the long!

And those are two things that absolutely CAN NOT be emphasized enough. As much as I love pedigreed dogs, especially the Bully breeds, there are literally thousands of dogs and cats in dog pounds and SPCA facilities who are killed (I refuse to use less offensive words like "euthanized," "put down," "put to sleep," or any of those other phrases that somehow make the act of taking an innocent animal's life easier to accept. Killing is killing. If it is an act of mercy for an animal suffering or terminally ill, then it is, at least, understandable. If it is done just because someone was so irresponsible as to let their animals breed indiscriminately, resulting in puppies or kittens that they neither want nor care to take the trouble to find decent homes for, then it is neglect and irresponsibility that results in the loss of innocent lives. It shouldn't be sugar coated. If you just want a pet for companionship and its devotion and protection, then PLEASE consider adopting one from the local pound. You will be, quite literally, saving a life.

We have a 3 year old mix (looks like a shepherd/ doby mix, but really he looks more like a baby deer than anything else). His name is Marley. He isn't too smart but he is good with the baby.

Please please PLEASE do this. Unless you are competing with your animals, and are breeding to advance the breed (ie unless you are a responsible breeder who knows what they are doing) fix your dogs! It's one of the requirements we put on people any time we place a pet quality dog in a home. Theres no excuse for accident puppies. Unless your male AB chews through his heavy duty chain link pen to get at a female in heat. Thank goodness that we didn't end up with pups from that one!

As soon as we can afford it, we are getting the magnum kennels to contain my fred. With a ceiling. Cause the 6 foot high ones we have now don't do the best job. He's an escape artist. But luckily he's a lazy escape artist and never goes out of the yard. Thats why we have large pens and a fenced in yard.

My husband and I made a promise that all animals we will ever have will always be adopted or rescued. I'm a mixed-breed fan all the way, but if you are looking for a pure-bred, there are HUNDREDS of single-breed rescues around the nation. Most are happy to arrange transport if you find a dog you would like.

I'm not anti-pure breeds, either, as long as they come from a breeder who knows what they are doing and is taking care of their dogs. Our vet says he prefers mutts as well (though he has a pur lab at the moment) because they tend to be healthier. He does 90% of his work on pure breeds.

Anyway, to emphasize what White Avenger and others said, you can find any dog you are looking for in a shelter or rescue. There is a little dog just waiting for his or her forever home with you somewhere! 🙂

On this subject, I also want to note don't breed your dogs unless you know what you're doing. Like if you don't get them fixed because you want to breed, fine. But know what you're doing. My samoyed Nevada was the product of my grandfather's two dogs Rogi and Isabella. He bought Isabella to breed her with Rogi. Unfortunately, he did not know what he was doing. We wanted to show Nevada at first and we didn't have proper full breed paper work. He also didn't fully think through how he was going to sell them and it was a nightmare. There was also other stuff that went wrong... it was a mess. Then he decided he wanted to breed again after the first litter. He never did though because Rogi got CRAZY aggressive every time Isabella was in heat and it wasn't worth it. So he fixed them both. I loved Nevada, but the circumstances in which she came to exist in this world were unfortunate. Know what you're doing before you decide to breed.

For those of you who aren't aware, I have a twin personality, the Black Avenger (think of him as my own personal Angelus) who tends to manifest himself at various times. He's by no means a tree hugger, but he loves animals and small children (not babies, with their dirty diapers and drooling) and loves to make impassioned speeches. He's just a big sensitive slob, who actually cried when Ol' Yeller died, nothing like my normal cynical, hard hearted self. You might notice him when he pops up around here once in awhile. Just ignore him, and he'll slink away back into his corner and brood some more.

ITA with WA- we had 2 cats, both neutered (well my husband's cat did have 1 litter first). Misha is a rescue dog. When she goes, if we get another one it will definitely be a shelter or rescue dog. I would like to get one that's a bit more kid-friendly. I mean, Misha lives us but she doesn't really play with the kids. Oh she'll chase a tennis ball if you throw it, buy she won't bring it back LOL. I don't think I would ever want a very small dog, but maybe something a bit smaller that my 10-year old could walk without being dragged down the street.

Bulldogs are the best with kids! But the pulling down the street thing could be a problem if they aren't trained well. Not a problem with mine thankfully!

It's a bit off topic, but this post reminded me of a show on the Discovery Channel titled "Life After Man," showing what would most likely happen if all of mankind suddenly vanished from the planet. According to the experts, about half of the world's dogs would die very quickly because, for one reason or another, they simply wouldn't be strong enough or adaptable enough to live unsupported by humans. The dogs most likely to survive would be the medium to large sized mutt.

My family dog lives with my mum. Shes 15 in August yet still acts like a puppy. I miss her tons but visit as much as I can. Shes getting deaf in her old age, but sometimes its just selective hearing. Shes a bitza, apparently she was a Bull terrier cross bull mastive but we very much doubt that, she looks more like a Jack Russel on steroids. Her name is Ali and she is one of the smartest dogs I have ever met.

Where I live there are a few more dogs, they arnt my dogs but they come visit all the time cos I live on the same property. Coby was a german shepard, unfortunately he died about two months ago. He was one of the dumbest dogs I ever met. He failed in the police force so thats why he came to live here. Tosh is a kelpie cross who spends most of his time eating or sleeping on the couch.

Sam is the other dog, he is a chihuahua cross jack russel. Here he is as a puppy while I was minding him.

There is also another dog that arrvied a few days ago, his name is Benji and he is a maltese cross I think, he was adopted from the desperate pets website. I havent got any photos of him yet, he doesnt come visit as much as the others, I dont think he knows whats over here yet lol.

Everyone around me has dogs (apart from my actual self) my close friends have had their first time dog for about 8 months now. He's called Jack and is a Hungarian Vizla, because our families are so close myself and my mum walk him a lot. We've been called his "adoptive aunts" and we even have dog toys for him when he visits. Talk about spoilt haha!
