I just watched the Bones episode Yanks in the UK. When they get to Wexler`s house (flat) I noticed that he had no yard. It made me wonder if thats a UK thing or if it was just inner city. Do you have a yard? Also, stating where-ish you live would be helpful. I live in the middle of nowhere MI and I have a huge yard. My parents live in a Detroit suburb and they have enough grass to put a sidewalk on.

I live in a mid-sized mid-South city, and yes, we have a yard. I have friends who have or do live in Chicago with no to little yard.

live just outside of London, got a reasonably sized chilling area outside where my kitten plays lol

Flats (apartment blocks) a lot of the time won't have a yard. Sometimes they'll have a little courtyard in the middle, but that's it.

I live on an incredibly long street, there are about 200 houses on my street total, and half of them have front yards, if you can call it that, and half of them don't. It's just the way the houses were designed.
 
I live in NYC the apartment I'm in now has a yard but its only for the tennants on the bottom floor. The apartment I was in had a yard, which was large by NYC standards but small in comparison to a house's yard.

When I lived in Manhattan as a kid we had a concrete yard lol which was incredibly dirty and much more a dead end alley then a yard but we called it our back yard.
 
I live in Oklahoma and we have a fairly decent yard. Enough that we have a riding lawn mower to mow it.

I'm from rural Germany (Nether Rhine region of NRW, close to the Dutch border), living in a none-too-large town.

The house I live in right now (double house with 9 flats in each half) has a smallish garden behind it. My parents' house just had a very small paved backyard (not much bigger than half again our living room) with a tiny flower bed in one corner (in which our old cat is buried, too :sigh: ); my grandparents' house in the same street had no yard whatsover.
 
I live in the third largest Irish city and have a very small front and back garden. I'd say they are about 12 feet by 15 feet, tops.

We live in a housing estate so what we do have is a lot of open green space for kids to play in. Kinda makes up for teenyness of our gardens.
 
Yup I live in a blink and you missed it horseracing village on the outskirts of London M25 and my house has a garden mini at the front and medium sized at the back.
 
Yeah I have a fairly big garden but half of it is patio.
I also have a massive garden at uni with trees and flowers and all sorts, but only because the nuns next door like looking after it.
 
I have a yard! I live in Newcastle, so Northern England. Not in a city or town, but not exactly middle of nowhere either. And I have a little yard thing and on the other side a bit of grass. Not big by any stretch of the imagination but it's good enough. A few houses opposite me have MASSIVE gardens.
 
When you guys mention gardens, do you mean like flower gardens? Can you walk on them?

Garden is just our version of yard. Your back garden could be a grass lawn with flower beds or it could be full paved. Either way, it will still be called garden on this side of the world. 🙂

My front garden is half paved, half grass and flowers and my back garden is completely paved with some pebble gravel stones and stuff like that.

I live on the outskirts of Birmingham and we have pretty big front and back gardens. Too big, really, it's gone to ruin a bit because we don't have the time/money to cope with the upkeep.
 
The best yard I had so far was in my student house in Belgium. The front yard was like a massive parking lot + a barbeque area (there's this brick wall seperating street and front yard for the most (except the driveway of course), so you have your privacy there.
The backyard was simply huge. A lot of grass, a ping pong table, two tennis courts and by far enough space to play soccer games. I kinda miss that garden.

The house I currently live in does have a small backyard (no frontyard), but it's so crappy. You can't even reach it from the street, it's just walls everywhere seperating it from the neighbours' yards. Very depressing.
 
Well, I'm in the suburbs of Australia. I have a back yard that is decent sized considering I live in a townhouse. I also have heaps of parks around my house.

My parents live in the city though and they only have a balcony.

I have family in England that have gardens. I have family in England that don't have gardens. I guess it just depends on the style of house you have.
