So.... Do you?

I think I am actually slowly, bit by bit, turning into a Vampire!!

The last few years (each year getting a bit worse than the last) I have been getting burnt in the sunshine. No bit deal, put on suncream I hear you say... Well, I do put it on and it takes approx 2 hours in the sunshine for me to fry. This year however, it's been taken to a whole new level. I was in the sunshine for 1 hour in the morning on Saturday (it was 17c), I hadn't put on suncream that morning because I didn't think it would be bad as I was only planning on 1 hour for a coffee with friends.

I was so wrong. I fried like a tomato in the frying pan. Not only did I burn but I suffered bad sunstroke afterwards. I was extremely dizzy, nauseous, hot and thirsty 5 minutes after going indoors!! I swear at this rate I'll be dust by the end of the summer. It's only freaking April in the UK.

Don't worry little one, as far as I'm aware no vampire has ever had such a cute bottom lip.
Oh yeah! I have good old Scottish blue skin & burn at the mere mention of Summer.........Plus I'm nocturnal which probably doesn't help 😀

Not sure if that makes me a Vampire or not really.......though the fangs & the lumpy forehead might mean something......?

Grrrr-Argh!

Probably just a British thing, I burn easily too, especially my ears! However I tend to keep covered up these days, long dresses and light cardigans.

Looks like the weather is going to be hot-n-sunny for the London Marathon this Sunday.....not looking forward to that as I will be marshalling again & that means standing out in it all day! Plus it brings out the crowds so our crossing point gets really busy & people start getting narked at having to wait to cross.

Good luck with that!
Scot/Irish ancestry. So have some issues with the sun. Plus am kind of a night owl as well. 🧛

I'm the idiot who walked the 10 km round Uluru in the midday sun in the middle of November - I've never been so ill after sun exposure! 🙄

I take care of myself in the sun, so I actually get burnt less than I used to, but literally the tiniest hint of sun will fry me. Factor 50 all the way..... I'm either super pale or bright red - there is no such thing as a tanned Athena.

So, can I join vamps anonymous?

Lucky you didnt die! So jelly of ularu! I cant wait to get there
Haha Glad to have found some fellow vamps here!! I never used to be like it when I was young but it seems that older I get the worse it gets.

Silly, silly, silly.
I'm sorry Nix but the problems you are finding with the sun are genetic. It is a well known fact that poms can't handle the sun.
I mean why do you think the country is known as the 'Land of the Long Black Rain Cloud'

And as for you Last Watcher should you get lumpy on the forehead or develop fangs it has nothing to do with vampires. Do you think you are getting horns? As you might be becoming a werestag, how else do you think you're gonna get over them thar hills?
Go and have a chat with Gwennie Poohs about going out with her on a haggis hunt, I've heard she is real good at murdering them four legged Haggis animals. So if you do go all lumpy in the forehead region she'll have the cure.

Yup, sorry, Och Eye the noo and other strange sounding words.

Im glad you posted this! I was pondering my sun exposure lately. I have always been a big outdoors person. When I was a kid I would tan near on instantly. Always the darkest of my family.

Yesterday, an aboriginal man identified me as aboriginal. This isnt the first time that has happened but the first time I thought, hey thats interesting! I actually enjoy being called "sister" and the conversations about their history in the area.

I became photosensitive on psych medications. I burnt instead of tanned, light affected me terribly, the heatstork was miles worse than anything I experienced as a child. This last summer on minimal meds, I tanned again. Got heatstroke and migraines a bit, but since I havent been working I could hide from the sun in the worst of it. Next summer will be med free and I look forward to seeing how I handle it! I notice, since march my skin has gone well darker, Ive been outside a lot since it has cooled down and my health has improved. My blood sisters have tan envy (sw)

We can always pick the poms in oz, they are the cooked lobsters whinging bout chocolate and sausages "back home" 😀

Oh I guess I should mention that I do wear sun protection, and think ya silly if you dont in this place. Mostly protective clothing. I wont wear suncream daily cos, expensive! Spf 50+ only works for 2 odd hours where I live, so I limit sun exposure in summer vs trying to compete with the sun. I will lather it on for a bushwalk cos Im likely to sweat it off by the end.

I know a heap of people who have ended up in hospital with 2nd degree blisters and burns from falling asleep on the beach. I did it once on bondi, thankfully the sun doesnt bite as hard on the east as it does in the west. Wind chill can make it easier to fry cos ya dont get as hot.

Is No hat no play a thing overseas? One of the funniest travel threads I read was a pom being surprised that the sun burns... Lmao! Not picking on ya poms its friendly banter.

I defo have "truckers arm" from driving with the air con on haha. I burnt my eyelid with hot oil last year and now thats my inbuilt sun alarm. If my eye hurts, its time to get undercover!

The sun hates me, and I live in southern CA where it is always sunny 😡😕. I burn fairly easily, get freckles the more time I spend in the sun, and get heat sick. Good sunscreen (with UVA and UVB protection!), a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water are by bff's. I even have one of those car window sunshades that I use while driving.

Lets take this up a notch or two, to all those people who think they are vampires, good on yer.
What the world needs is more vampires, to reduce the population by a vast number. There is about 7 and a half billion
people but there needs to be about 2 billion.
5.5 billion who don't buy cars and don't use electricity, that'd probably save the world.
Vampires could have their own country (and call it Miranda) or continent (a bit like Reavers).
Yep them vampires are our friends.
I'm sorry to say I wrote a bit of fan fic that had River as the slayer,
I hadn't realised I was of the belief about her cute lower lip then.

I HATE THE SUN!!! If I'm outside on a sunny day for a couple of hours, I get itchy, and I sneeze a lot. Sometimes I get dizzy. It's weird and annoying.

My issue with the sunshine is that it dissappears for 8 or 9 months! I'm happy to see it finally making an appearance and am looking forward to festival and BBQ season.

Factor 50 all the way
Completely agree with this though. I love the summer but have no interest in a tan never mind getting burnt. Put the best stuff I can get on, top it up when needed and so far it's worked for me.

I've stayed out of the sun most of my life and now have much fewer wrinkles than others my age, so that's good. But in addition to being pale, I have a slow pulse, slow breathing rate, am always cold, and my mother's side of the family comes from Transylvania, so I could also be part vampire.

I don't burn in the sun, but I look like a vampire sometimes, maybe I should go outside more...

Look in the mirror, silly... 😛

I sympathise. I have sensory issues and the light and heat drives me nutty.

The benefit of being a vampire,
when you look in a mirror and if a guy does them rabbit ears behind you,
you might think boy are you in for a surprise.
Or for those of the female persuasion, girl are you in for a surprise.
