I know I have talked a lot about this, but I don't know if there's a thread about it..
I have had five people laughing at me today, just because I happened to mention Buffy.. And that happens every day. They just assume that I'm joking when I say that Buffy is a great show. And when I try to explain that you have to really watch it to see how brilliant it is, they still smile or laugh at me.. if they haven't already come to the conclution that I'm just weird..
I've been seriously obsessed with Buffy, and I still love the show.. But I don't know anyone to watch it or even talk about it with. Cause everyone hates Buffy or thinks the show is a joke.
So, do you all have friends who are Buffy-fans or do people think you're weird too (because of Buffy)..?

I would say that about half of my friends watch Buffy (several because of me). The rest don't laugh, but kind of get annoyed when I say, "Let's go watch Buffy."

Well... At first I just thought it was me and my twin sister that was watching Buffy (we are both deeply obsessed, but Im worse than her since I have pretty much stopped watching anyother tv show) but then I found out that there's a girl in my class who watches Buffy (AND is a B/A fan 😀 so imagen my happiness)... But I think I scared her away by talking about it so much and so fast and stuff... I got so exicted and carried away 😛

One of my freinds is a Btvs/Ats fan but I don't see her enough and well we always ende up fightinng over something over the show-- It's frustrating...

I have another freind that really never watched Btvs/Ats until I came along that is. I ended up taping her a slew of eps...

My stadagy to get her interested was to .Well I told her about the charater/actor that I loved.Than I went for the writersand mentioning eps. I adore .I spoiled her alot too but it got her wanting more... And on the episodes you might be worried about --- warn em' ,withhold it... they only want to see it more ( and ya might be pleasentley surprised!)...

I sired me a Giles fan and Spike fan... she watches the show every weekend and is rewatching s6... I'm so tickled

I have a friend who used to watch Buffy. And now I have convinced her to watch some episodes with me.. But the thing is that she still thinks of it as a joke.. It's still like "We're gonna watch Buffy, hahahah..!"
They just don't realize..

some people just cant comprehend that its not a joke... that there is deeper meaning.. the cast rocks... (I'm standing on a soap box) ahhh grhhhh its just a thing cant explain...

I feel your pain hun :D
They do rock.. And the dialogues are awsome.. The feelings are real, the emotions, the relationships.. It's great.
But people don't even pay that much attention.. They just hear "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and think it's stupid.. They don't get that that's what Joss intended.. a title that would make it sound like a joke..

maybe there is a way to remove the title huh? trick people into watching the show or change it ( but that be wrong?)-- thinking of something ---- not sure what???

Well...my little bro is a huge fan of Buffy and ANgel just like me and my older one is a minor fan.....so Yes, I do know other fans of Buffy but I really don't have any friends or people at school who are "fans".

Don't know anyone IRL who watches buffy. But everyone is cool with me liking it since i'm a generic TV geek (i'm the guy who watches stuff years before the local tv stations even knows about their existance 😉

I've had a few cock-eyed glances at the mention of BTVS or ATS. But I know a few people who also watch. My cousin who lives in Chicago sometimes sends me e-mail on DB updates or JW interviews. We discuss the shows more in depth when she comes home for a visit. My boyfriend also watches, but won't admit that to anyone else he knows. I've tried getting my Best friend into it, but she rejected the idea. She did however mention that BTVS had a beautiful cast.

But why are people againts it? Normally you watch a show and then you decide if it's good or not. But with Buffy it's like you don't have to know anything about it to reject it.. Is it only because of the name "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"..?

I think it has a lot to do with the fcat that it's a fantasy show and fantasy isn't regarded as high quality tv(entertainment).

My friends often just frown and I don't really know if the know what Buffy is, but I've been able to make my family into little geeks. My sister watches it and loves it, my mum always gets upset if we don't tell her we are watching BtVS. After a few speaches I've been able to kind of transformed my cousin into a rabbid fan like me. Perhaps it wasn't just my fault it seems as if he had at least one other friend with whom he could share the obsession and that always makes it easier. But I think it's easier for him, because he's younger than me and some how it feels as if it's more accepted to like the show when you are like 10-15, then you reach this barrier or something and it starts to get kind of corny to like Buffy.

I think that at least in Sweden the show is seen as a youth show, some action some horror and some love. And let's not forget that the show stars vampires and demons and stuff like that, hence it has to be a show that young people should watch. The shows aired around 5 pm, the time when youngsters are supposed to be home and have finished their homework.

I think so... to a certain level.... Buffy isn't really an accepted show over here (as you know) and well... It is just hard to place Buffy in a certain folder. It's an action/drama/comedy/supernatural and so on... It's so many subjects in the show therefore it's hard for some people to say that it's a tv show that "cool people" watch.... so they rather say they hate it and don't watch it rather than say they watch it and be classifield as a geek... Anyway... that's how things are done in my area 😉

I agree, but it seems like Buffy is more hated than Charmed or Roswell or even Smallville..

I think people think like that, but I feel that it's the other way around a little bit.. Because if I meet a 10 year old who likes Buffy, I don't think we like it the same way, I don't think he/she gets all the things I love about the show..

None of my friends watch it, not that they particularly dislike it, they just don't watch it.

Mentioned it in Media today (well we were discussing our coursework and im doing mine on OMWF) and it went down okay, had a few people say "haha buffy" before but don't care about them. Besides, we've watched Buffy in media before so I was happy.

I didnt listen to my friends talk crap about Buffy so you know what i did i converted them and now they're in to it! (Well some of them dropped out)🙁
