Do You Like Dark Willow?

Searched and couldn't find a thread like this, so please don't hurt me if there already is one.
I actually am not a fan of Dark Willow. That particular character transformation was probably the main reason I didn't really like season six. But I've noticed a bunch of you saying that Dark Willow was amazing and such things, so I wanted to see if anybody else actually agrees with me.

The story with s6 was good but i agree on dark willow.
I hated her cheeky attitude, and they gave her too much power.
I mean, flying around, teleporting, fireballs.... just a bit too ridiculous. Then to finish of she was gonna end the world.
It was just silly.
I definetilty prefered season 1, 2 and 3 Willow.

I dont like Dark Williow or Season 6 I thought it was poor and Williow being a big bad always came across like a last ditch effort to get fans excited again.

I did however really enjoy Angel season 4 when she used her awesome power to confront Cordy in a magic battle.

I absolutely LOVED Dark Willow! - I like seeing a popular character go off the deep end, & then get pulled back in by those who love her. And Alyson Hannigan was SO good being SO evil! :bite-cha: Heh! oh... and her quippy d.w. lines... Loved it! Loved the whole idea!

I loved Dark Willow too. Probably cause she wasn't all flashy like Glory and the Trio had been. She just wanted to do what she wanted to do and took the most direct route. Plus, she got some of the coolest special effects in the entire series. There was her flying, and the breaking down of the jail cell wall, riding the truck, absorbing the books, the stasis spell cast by Giles. Especially the one where she teleports Buffy and Dawn from Rack's place to the Magic Box where the camera pans round so slowly that you don't even realise it until they are already there.

Not that I base my likings on special effects, but they definately added to her villian mentality. There was great dialogue and acting to support it all. And she got a showdown with Giles, which was wicked cool. I don't think it was a last ditch attempt to get fans excieted either, I mean, they were building towards it all season. Right from Bargaining.

for Tara oh and revenge . But revenge is blind hatered and no no one can stop it except love which is why Xander yet again saves the day x

I absolutely love Dark Willow. She's the main reason why I love season 6 so much. It was great seeing how she slowly goes over the edge over the course of the season, then, right when you think she's finally gotten better, Tara dies and she just completely loses it. Like most of the other people in this thread, I also loved her evil mentality and snappy one-liners, and Alyson Hannigan did a great job of portraying her.

I can understand why someone would think she was too powerful, but I think it was good that they made her so strong. Not only were her powers really cool visually, but it was great to finally have a villain that Buffy couldn't just beat down. The whole thing with Xander on Kingman's Bluff wouldn't have worked if she had been any weaker.

I liked her, but some of her powers i agree were a bit...silly. The flying never bothered me, but the fireball and the "fly my pretty, fly" line was sooo cheesy it makes me cringe.

But come on, we got a fight between buffy and willow! it was awesome!

Personally, I hate Dark Willow with a fiery passion. I find her quips more annoying than funny. It pissed me off that she got off so easily, she almost destroys the world and literally brings Giles to within an inch of his life and she gets a holiday in England out of it. I find it extremely aggrivating considering characters like Buffy, Angel and Spike are made to pay for their mistakes for years, yet Willow gets a pat on the back for being so strong. Double standards much?


I loved high school Willow. With fuzzy jumpers and the equally funny quips. I'd like to see more of her around.

The "Fly my pretty, fly!" line would have annoyed me if they hadn't followed it up with the "See what I did there?" It was a joke that worked on 2 levels, firstly: witch, and secondly it was a dig at Buffy and her one liners. The irony cuts through the cheese! My only problem with it was that it seemed to be added in during editing, as it seemed squished in a bit.


The one thing I found most wonderful about that fight was the William Shatner book lying in the detritus. I always knew there were some kind of dark magics about him! I suppose we should be glad she didn't absorb that book....

I personally did not really like her. Felt kinda she lacked rage in her tone when dialouges and occassionally also talked about her former self as totally different person which i thought was bad. Also i did not quite like end of the world escalation, should have kept it to perhaps Sunnydale destruction if they wanted to escalate it.

See, you've just listed some of the things I liked most! I suppose it's just different strokes and all that.

Normally, I didnt like DarkWillow... But I am a X-Men fan too, and I am a big fan of DarkPhoenix/Jean Grey... So I loved her and her similar attitudes... 🙂

Dark Willow? Hell Yeah! To begin with I didn't like her, but then I realised I actually just didn't enjoy because of Tara's death, once I got used to the concept, I totally loved her. She's awesome.

They don't, technically speaking.

The book picks up on the idea of the multiverse, all the possible realities out there, and that the moment after she flays Warren is one of these branching points.

The "true" timeline or rather the show goes one way, the book goes another and explores an alternative universe. In this one, Willow was not stopped that night, crippling Giles in the Magic Box and spends 3 months gathering a coven of dark Witches and coerced Wiccans to gather power for her to defeat the actual beings preventing Tara from coming back to her.

Its a different take on the story and involves Tara being bound to Willow as a ghost but gives each characters thoughts on the situation, something we didn't have enough time to see on screen, and the anguish/hatred Willow feels for Buffy, blaming Tara's death on her and kind of seems similar to the Season 8 feelings Willow has about Buffy being "to blame", keeping Kennedy away.

But it definitely isn't canon and cannot fit in with Season 7 or 8 in the real timeline.

Not much of a fan here. Well, to be fair I didn't like Willow tht much at all in the post-high school seaons but Dark Willow was even worse.
I just didn't like the idea of Willow being so powerful and everything, easily overpowering the slayer.
I did, however, like how Xander got her back to normal Willow.

I have a slightly related question. Am I insane?



It's related, really! I seem to remember there being a scene where Anya mentions that Willow can't teleport yet, and she has to fly. Something about it being flashy and scares the peasants, but slower. I'm 99% sure that happened. Was there subsequently a scene actually showing Willow flying? Kind of Elphaba-esque? Did I make that up? I was trying to find caps of it....then realised it may never have happened. Please let me be right!
