Question Do You Like Dollhouse?

After two episodes i can conclude that sadly i dont like it, to rushed, to few likable characters if any, no witty dialogue just a fast storyline that i barely understand, I will keep watching a few more episodes though as it is early days and joss's work.

Why is it too early to ask if we like it? It's not "will we continue to like it" but do we like it so far. Me, I can say easily, I like it.

Well i already have answered whether i like it, but without a doubt its too early to say that definitvely for the very obvious (i thought) reasons that the show its in its baby infant stages. Its like judging Buffy after the first two episodes...sure were all gonna have an opinion, but it'll only prove to be a meaningless one.

Well, I can only speak for myself here, but in my own past experiences, i have generally liked/not liked a show based on one episode (in most cases, the premiere). So, I can quite affirmatively say that I do like it. And it will continue to be on my watch-list. At least until the end of the season.

Certain shows, sure. But out of the shows I regularly watch I thought Buffy, Firefly (2nd episode), The Office, and Smallville (definitely) had quite weak pilots that I came to love only after watching the show.

Your right though, were all different, so some of you may be able to tell after 2 episodes whether you like the show...but dont tell me youve never liked the look of a show at first and never been turned off.

At the same time, I usually don't come into shows late.. (as in, even if a show is currently in it's fourth season, I'll watch it from the beginning instead of (a) spoiling myself and (b)confusing myself)
I start every show from the beginning. So all I know is how good the crap at the beginning was to get me hooked into the real great stuff seasons (or episodes) later..

That little dress that Eliza was wearing while dancing on the first episode made this show an "Instant Winner" for me.

I'd say it's mediocre so far. I'd say its closest two competitors in terms of content would be Chuck & Burn Notice and I think that Dollhouse is thus far the lesser of the three.

I'm really not sure that Joss is in his element with this series. His strongest attribute is developing characters and his lead in this show grows dramatically slower than an average person (by design). Echo's handler is the only real protagonist right now, and while he's a decent character you can't get by with one guy developing (the FBI guy too, but he's peripheral). Even Buffy & Angel would have been really boring if Buffy & Angel were the only characters developing.

I'll continue with it for at least another five episodes but so far I think it's off to a much lesser start than Buffy, Angel, Burn Notice or Chuck.

I think I do. The whole theme of the show is so much different from what Joss is usually doing. But yeah, it's ok, not really amazing yet, and kinda confusing, but I think it'll turn out to be really good. I'm waiting for the third/fourth episode cause Joss' season always start kicking ass on the third epy. *cough*School Hard*cough*

Love it thus far.
It will be neat for Eliza Dushku to portray different personalities...she really got pigeonholed as the 'in-your-face' type of girl between Bring It On and Buffy.

So far it's just "eh.." in my opinion. But, it's a Joss Whedon series, so I'm definitely hoping for the best, and hoping that it picks up. Certain themes remind me a little bit of Alias...now THAT was a great show (at least the first 3 seasons were..). So, if they can follow suit in that mindset, and the show picks up a little bit... hopefully it'll work out. AND, i really desperately hope they move it to a different night, because the Friday night slot is just going to kill it....

Me likey but I wish it was more character-centric. In Buffy, kicking some vampire butt is the spice while character development and interactions are the main course! We've only seen 2 episodes so far so it might be a bit early to say though.

I want to like it so badly...

I liked the first episode, it didn't grab me the way I had hoped. But I liked it.

The seconde episode was really really good, and got me super pumped.

But then the third was... unimpressive. which made me kind of bummed out.

there's something oddly generic about it... in a sea of over-sexed tv shows, it's not so different. But it has great potential and i refuse to give up hope. Joss has yet to let me down.

I like it. A lot. 😀 I get how some people aren't loving the stand alone episodes, cos I much prefer a good arc in any show, but I think it still feels like a Joss show at heart.

Joss in Rolling Stone

i checked through the thread to see if this had been mentioned before, and i didnt see anything... so here goes:

i was going through one of the latest issues of Rolling Stone mag, and there was an article about Joss. In it, Joss stated that after dollhouse he's quitting TV. He didn't see a future in it, especially because of the way that his shows have been treated in the past.

personally, for me, i was having trouble seeing joss in Dollhouse. I kept looking for his incredible wit and personality that is so evident in his other shows. In the interview he explained that he had been having troubles with Fox and the producers from the very beginning, and had even given up for a while after the second episode was filmed. His initial plan for Dollhouse was being twisted by all these outside forces, and it was becoming something other than what he'd wanted.

Soooo what I got from the article was that Fox has made it extremely dificult for Joss. Which is ridiculous, considering Joss' massive fanbase, they ought to have more faith in the man.

I just thought I'd share. It was a really interesting article. I'm not sure it was the most recent Rolling Stone, but it came out within the last few months. Sean Penn's on the cover, if anyone's interested...

sorry for rambling. I just found it pretty interesting... and sad. I hope Dollhouse does well, so that maybe he'll be given more freedom, or at least get picked up by someone who gives a damn about his vision.

I think it's awesome!! I find it annoying that everyone is saying it's not like Buff/Angel, you're never gonna like it if you think that because its not the same show!!! Look at it more objectively as a new show and you might enjoy it more.

I wouldn't say its confusing, it just hasn't said straight up what the deal with the whole Dollhouse programme is. It just gives you enough to need and want to watch more to find out what's going on, not like Lost which just throws problems at you and won't solve them until the very end! It works on 2 great levels as well - the Dollhouse/Echo/Alpha situation and the FBI on the other level.

Echo and Boyd's relationship reminds me of Sydney Bristow and Dixon's relationship - I really like it and it really enforces how sad the situation is.

Very, very impressed with Whedon here. Definitely shows he is a mature writer. Eliza is awesome too, I wasn't doubtful of her ability to play the main role but I guess I was dubious but I think she's brilliant.

After the 1st episode I was like :drunk: what the... but on the 2nd ep things started to get much better, even though we're still in the dark with some info I think Joss is trying to make us live a little the Echo experience, meaning that we're kind of knowing and being more and more "aware" of stuff and facts as the series develop, we've been given the essential info we need to follow the story line but the real deal will probably come at the end of the season.

Anyway, I'm loving it so far and I think Eliza is great! (as usual :tongue05:
