Question Do You Like Dollhouse?

I can't say I LOVE it but I certainley don't hate it. That seems to be a general consensus. But why don't we love it yet? Of course there are some that do...why is that? The biggest issue I'm having so far is that I don't know who Echo is. Is she special? Since she's a new character every week how are we supposed to get to know her? Why should we feel an emotional investment? If they don't start giving some more hints as to why Echo is a special doll...they're gonna start losing viewers.
 
I love this show. I think it's great because making Echo be whoever someone wants her to be for an episode can make all sort of storylines for the episodes from being a baby sitter to being some high rank secret agent type person with lots of action in store. And I'm sure the main story will progress in time. I heard that they might be cancelling this show though but I think that's silly because it's only just started. Give it time to get it's ratings up. 😀

EDIT: Oh and it also helps that Eliza Dushku and Amy Acker are in it. (I cried lots on the inside when Fred died! I couldn't on the outside cuz I was watching it with family haha!). And on the first episode, Tim, from One Tree Hill was in it and I was like " :O TIM!!!" 😛
 
It's hard for me to get really enthusiastic over a series after just a couple of episodes, no matter how much I like Eliza and Joss, but, so far, it's been pretty good. I do hope, though, that Eliza will get the chance to play something more demanding than the variations on "Action Girl" that we've seen so far. The format of the show can allow Eliza to play everything from action to romance to comedy. That's the real challenge. We all know quite well that the lady can kick ass. I would like to see her get the chance to do other types of roles.
 
I am not the biggest TV fan, but I do like this show so far. I look forward to seeing the next episode every Friday.

That being said, I have been disappointed.

I have to question how much Joss is involved, and just who is doing the writing. I don't see any of the quick wit and interesting writing that is so evident on Buffy and Angel (I haven't watched Firefly yet). If it didn't say "Created By Joss Whedon" in the credits, I wouldn't connect it with his other work.

I haven't laughed once. That lack of humor is not what I was expecting (not that I thought it would be comedy, but still).

I also haven't connected with any of the characters, which I think is necessary to really fall into a show (or movie). In Buffy, I connected:
- with Buffy, since there was always a ton expected of her
- with Willow, since she was book-wormy
- with Xander, since he was awkward at time and the typical male
...etc etc.
So far, I don't have a connection with any one on Dollhouse.

And finally for now, I am having a hard time seeing this last more than one season. Not because of the ratings, but because of the story. It almost seems to be more of a mini-series type of show than one that lasts several years.

Yea, but Dollhouse is only like.. 4 episodes old. And this isn't even 100% Joss' work.. Not until episode 6, supposedly. This is Joss' work - retooled by Fox.

Besides, I think the idea right now is to set up a formula and such.
 
I thik the idea is great and with a little Joss Whedon flare it could have been better than what it is. Fox dictating how the first 6 or so episodes should flow wasnt a good idea and it shows. Aside from the concept i just think that it was a very difficult story to introduce, but im confident Joss can make it work. Personally I feel that the Dollhouse should have had a two hour/episode premire laying the groundwork so we kind of wouldnt be confused . Ghost would have been a perfect epiosde 3.

Aside from that his show suffers from the ability to connect to the characters. i cant say i really like or dislike any of them. Theyre all just kinda there
