Do you like Funko Pop figurines? Why?

I hate them, I hate their designs, big heads & big eyes. The worse is that they look like nothing what they are supposed to represent/be. I won't spend my money on it.

The only good thing is that there is large choices.

I have 12 of them on display in my room, including 2 rare Buffy ones...

I also have three more in the closet waiting to be given to a new owner.

I have, errm, a lot!
Although now I have the Boggart Snape one I'm collecting them less. I find they go up in price too much, so only really want the characters I don't have now, or the rarer ones. The one I really want now is Quirrell, but it's going for more than I'm willing to pay.

I agree - they look nothing like the characters they're based on. I find little appeal in them.

That being said, I could understand why there's an appeal for others. For one thing, it's cute. For another, it's less about their resemblance to the original model and more about the buyer's attachment to the franchise the Funko is based on. I might find a Spider-Man FunkoPop a little too goofy for my taste, but given a choice, maybe a discount, I'd still collect it because it's Spidey, my favorite superhero of all time. Likewise with Buffy Funkos and Buffy fans. There's an attachment there.

And of course you also have people who just loves collecting these things as a hobby. I collect movie blurays myself (or at least I tried to; they're darn expensive). And with cute adorable Funkos, it makes even more sense to start a cute collection like that, figurines you could keep around to adorn your home. And I think, superhero FunkoPop is probably the most appropriate FunkoPop since comic book fans are already collectors in their own right. Even if the action figures they collect are usually more accurate to the source material, I doubt these fans could pass up the chance to collect Funkos of their favorite comic book characters, much like me and Spidey.

that's awesome!
They are basically idols, in that I have ones that embody some quality I wish to emulate, like being tougher than the thoughies, or eating hamburgers and wearing a hat that kinda looks like a crown.

I don't own any and I'm not really a fan, but I guess they're cute and people get quite addicted to collecting them.

It's funny that those not into them are the ones doing the most to try to explain the appeal. I'm not sure what that means (good advertising, or just the appeal of cuteness?), though I do know sometimes what is appealing about something can't be easily placed into words.

I assume they're ordered since I doubt conventions have been around for awhile (I could see buying something at a convention, no matter how over-priced, if one wanted something to remind them of it). Others could get them as gifts if the one giving the gift isn't sure what to get but feels obligated to get something, and that could have sentimental value, or at least it would be rude to get rid of it right away (and eventually one could forget it was there).

I like the Pop figures, I think they look cute. I only have 1 Pop and it's Faith! I would have more but then I'd have 100. lol. When I get a house I might try to collect all the Buffy figures.

Which ones? Can you post them? I'm curious.

I know that in Singapore, there is at least one shop in a major shopping mall that sells FunkoPop exclusively, so I think people have that privilege of going window shopping for these things and pick what they like at their own leisure without the concerns of shipping that comes with ordering the thing.

That being said, particularly rare Funko that you might want for a friend, maybe a friend who's a big fan of a particular character like Snape from Harry Potter, people would probably have to make a special order via Amazon or something. I know I did for my friend on his birthday. It's a pretty cool way to gift people these stuff based on their fandom; for one thing, you could show them you care enough about them that you know what they like or what they are into, and for another, it's convenient to choose a Buffy Funko for a Buffy fan and a HP Funko for a HP fan. It's easy gifting.

Yeah I've received some as gifts and also given people them as well.

Over the last few months I did buy quite a few online, but I do prefer to buy instore and these days loads of places sell them.

I have a few different collections, Harry Potter, Buffy, Firefly, Supernatural, Frozen, Marvel and Death!

But aren't things insanely expensive in Singapore ? Wouldn't ordering online get you the same pop at a much cheaper price ?

Buffy (2017 edition).
Faith.
Giles.
The Gentlemen.
Spike (cost me an arm and a leg).
Non-Buffyverse:
Spiderman (PS4).
Captain America with Thor's hammer (Endgame, got it before it was officially released).
Agent Carter (fake).
Hawkeye (Endgame).
Black Widow (Infinity War).
Clark Kent (Smallville).
Lois Lane (Smallville).

In storage, waiting to be given away:
Ant Man (Endgame).
Captain Marvel with box (Captain Marvel).
Adipose (Doctor Who).

I used to have Anger from Inside Out, but I gave it away.

Oh those are some good ones! I want the Cap with Thor's hammer!

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say "cheaper." I never paid much attention to the price difference, but there is a delivery charge even if you order from a local store, so I doubt it would be cheaper when you count that convenience fee. And if you're ordering online from Amazon... yeah, good luck. You usually have to pay a range of $10-30 just for shipping. I tried buying Funko on Amazon just a minute ago to test it out, and I would have to pay about $10 (around $7 in American dollars) just for an $18 (13 USD) Thor Funko. That's about half the price of the doll itself.

So yeah, store-bought beats ordering online for Singaporeans most of the time.

It is true that a lot of the things in Singapore are getting pricier everyday, however, which makes me even more reluctant to just casually buy figurines like Funko just for fun.

I quite like the Funko's, I think they're cute, though I admit when I first saw them I didn't get it. I think the simplistic likeness with the characters makes the characters even more iconic, if you will, as it is pretty easy to spot what or who a Funko is even if they all basically look the same.

Wouldn't buy them though, as it is a redundant thing to have. But that's from someone who breaks out in a cold sweat when someone gives me a present like earrings or something, because it means I need to get rid of another pair of earrings, because having more than three pairs would be redundant possessions. I'm not crazy, I just sound like it. 😛

So how's that going with your books?

@nightshade books are exempt because they fill a purpose 😛
(But I am in one of my clearing out phases and have cleaned out about half of my books and are in the process of selling those of any value 😀)

It's too much work to kill people with books. Unless you have any tips?
