I love all Buffy seasons, but it's not my favorite. Each episode in the entire series has it's great moments, but as a person who prefers their High School days, it's definitely not my favorite season. S2 is 🙂

I find it to be a pretty average Season. Not necessarily bad, but not that amazing either.
Things I Liked:
Something I find important is having a clear storyline in every Season. Season 5 definitely had that, and enough plot twists to be interesting.
The development. This was how we got to the events in S6, and the beginning was fun to watch.
Spike realizing he's in love with Buffy. Nice new story arc for BOTH characters.
Glory. She was a pretty cool "Big Bad", and the fact that she was the only female big bad on the show ever was interesting. Buffy was used to kicking the evil guys' behinds, demonstrating her female empowerment, and then comes along a pretty woman with WAY more power than Buffy had.
Riley leaving. That just needed to happen. Although I did enjoy the Spike/ Riley interactions.
Also, I started slightly liking Riley in S5. He was pretty much part of the gang, like family. But he still needed to go. 😀
Joyce dying. OK, OK, I know that sounds awful, but IMO not having responsible adult figures around makes characters act crazier, and therefore more interesting. 😀
Things I didn't like:
It was kind of boring, nothing particularly exciting ever happened.
The entrance of "Dawn". She acts like a nine year old with all her tantrums over absolutely nothing.
Having Riley AND Dawn in the same season. Yikes.
Spike before (and sometimes after) Crush. Don't get me wrong, I love Spuffy, but his attempts to woo her with romantic gestures and his shrine was really, really, creepy. And pathetic. It was actually embarrassing to watch him humiliate himself. But they had some OK moments.
Ben. He was just so annoying and boring. In the I Was Made To Love You commentary Jane said that she tried to make him as charming as possible, but I don't see it. Everything he said was dull, dull, dull. And the way Buffy acted around him with the awful fake laughter was quite distracting.
There weren't any fabulous episodes, IMO. I like The Body, but it definitely isn't one I would watch for fun. I also liked Crush and Fool For Love, but not as much as many other episodes throughout the Series.

I think "The Gift" is the season finale that made me cry the most. Heck, the whole of Season 5 was probably the most emotional ride of all for me, with Season 2 in second.
Season five is definitely one of my favourites. Buffy's character development in particular is probably as strong as it ever gets, and her relationship with Dawn (say what you will about her) is really sweet. A lot of people find Dawn annoying (and she definitely is written too young in her first few episodes), but I liked her, and Buffy's love for - and need to protect - Dawn really made for great character growth on her part. By the end of the season, she's had to grow up so much to basically act as a mother for her, while also defending her against what seems like an unstoppable enemy.
Oh, and Joyce's death was heartbreaking (not so much because I liked her, more for its effect on Buffy and the others). For me, S5 is the most emotional season of the show after the second half of S2 - The Gift comes so close to Becoming as my favourite season finale ever.

Initially I think his stalkerish behaviour came across as just a bit too pathetic, but I loved his brief reunion with Drusilla and turn to a more violent approach in Crush, and his more heroic behaviour from Intervention onwards. It does have its flaws, though - Glory isn't the most compelling villain, a few things about the plot don't quite seem to make sense, and the Knights of Byzantium are just kind of stupid - but when I'm actually watching it I'm so caught up in it that I just don't really pay attention to them.

This is one of my favorite seasons, I love it! It's really interesting and emotional. I love to watch this season again with my sister.

I have a weak spot for S5. I bought the season 5 VHS set on a whim in an Edinburgh sci-fi shop on sale when VHS was still common. I've never owned a VHS set, though, so it took ages before I got to see it.

Maybe it's because I've been out of high school for awhile and I'm not nostalgic about it AT ALL, but I always get into shows as soon as the characters leave high school. I really got sucked in to Buffy in season 4, when they started college.
If I have to pick a favorite season, it's season 5. I love it.

I hated high school, lol.
I'm not sure why I prefer it in Buffy, though.

That's mostly what I meant. I've been out for 17 years now so they're soooooo not my age then! lol
I think season 5 is decent, but still not my favorite. I like most of it but there's a stretch of 3 episodes from Shadow to Into the Woods that I find boring. The Body and The Gift are both excellent episodes. I didn't like how pathetic Spike came across as until late in the season. I liked Glory and I liked how Buffy defeated her. Overall a good season.

Season 5 is probably my 4th or 5th favorite season. While there are a lot of truly great episodes in it that are among my all time favorites (such as The Gift), there are also what I consider to be some major flaws with it that are hard for me to overlook. Probably the chief amongst these is the introduction of Dawn. With this character, not only did Joss drastically change the dynamic of the show from that point on, but he basically made the past 4 seasons never exist. Instead, the events that all the characters remembered and what they referenced in this and every season after were slightly different to include Dawn and that we, the audience, never saw. I've always felt a little cheated about this as I have no idea just what all the characters believe happened in the first 4 seasons in order to account for Dawn being there. While I certainly liked The Key story arc and would probably have had no qualms about Dawn if the series ended at the end of the season, the fact that show went on for 2 more years and had to undergo some pretty big changes in order to account for Dawn make me wish she wasn't introduced in the way she was.
I also believe that largely removing the presence of college from the show was a bad decision as it kind of cut the last really big tether that the show had to the real world, making BTVS take place in a purely supernatural world and not the witty blend between the supernatural and the real that it had been previously.
I don't want to harp too much on the negatives though, despite all that I still consider season 5 to be a very strong season (heck, they're all really good!). Glory for example is one of my favorite big bads and in my opinion was the most epic enemy Buffy has ever faced. I remember the first time I watched The Gift I had my jaw drop at the pure epicness of the final confrontation and Buffy's sacrifice.

Apart from Dawn's whiny attitude and her "get out, get out, get out!!" I love season 5. Glory is one of favourite Big Bad's.

In competition with season two and three, this is probably the best season of the series. You can see all the creativity is there as Whedon and the team were just full of ideas and concepts. It's a shame they burned out in season 6 very badly... And I liked Dawn and I guess it's because I'm about the same age as Trachtenberg (26, she's 24) and proceeded to have a crush on her at that time...
But I can't fault this season at all - I liked the removal of the college element to be honest as it allowed Giles to be the centre of all the characters again through the magic shop just as he was in the first three seasons in the library. To me, this is better than his presence in season 4 where it feels like he is in the background...

Like a lot of people I have individual episodes from this season I like most like the body and the gift. I liked Glory but I think it might have been because I just got transitioned with the kids in college life then I had to get used to them again in the real world.

I actually do like season 5. I hated it when Riley was in it but then he left and it was good lol. I liked Glory as the big bad, i think mainly because she was not wha you expect a big bad to see. I also like the way Anya is in this season when she becomes a shop asisstant and becomes a useful member of society lol.

1) Glory is ridiculous. Nice to look at, but ridiculous.
2) The introduction of Dawn, the most annoying character ever.
3) The Knights of Byzantium. Silly.
4) The Snot Monster from outerspace (can't remember what episode is called). Has to be the worst monster of the week, ever.

The power to make amends
Season 5 is a great, big season (apart from Riley)...There are so many great episodes like The Gift,The Body,No Place Like Home, Fool For Love,Crush, Forever, Tough Love,Spiral, The Weight of The World. Every one of these was very deep in meaning, funny and they always show character growth. I really love season 5, it's one of the best season for me.

I doubt it bothers anyone else all that much, but it made almost all of the episodes run together indistinguishably and as I didn't think the Glory arc was all that great, I got to spend every arc-centric episode watching the Scoobies blab on about her or her trying to be villainous.
