I voted yes because I do now. When I was growing up, we always left our back door unlocked because we were going in and out of it all the time. Going out our back door was the way we would get into the backyard and garden area of the property. The only time our back door was locked was at night. The reason I lock the door now because in this area there there are burglars who look for an unlocked door and walk in.
 
Could always booby trap it. 😉

I think we've had 2 murders here in recent years. However not random people killing unknown people, both were killed by people they knew. But small town murders!

But they were also killed by people they knew. So as long as strangers wander into her house she figgers she's okay.
 
Next town up from me is known for meth fueled axe murders.

Actually the last suburb I lived in the city was known for it too...

I always do, even when home. I live in a city, and though I live in a locked building, people have broken into it. I also tend to look at things at cost-benefit: it takes only a second to lock, and how much could I lose if I didn't and someone broke in? However, I live alone, so no one else would be coming or going. Growing up in this same city, we didn't lock during the day if someone was home.

My dad now lives in a very small town, and I don't think he even knows where the key is to his apartment. He considers himself cautious because he doesn't lock his car ever, but he doesn't leave the key on the dashboard like a lot of his neighbors!

I'm not entirely sure if my dad's car even locks!

I do however make sure my car is locked.
