Not sure it that topic has been discussed because I couldn't find it, but I'll ask anyway. Worst case scenario it will be deleted and I will be scolded by the mods 😀)

Over the years, I came to really love Fred. She's my favorite Ats character, took Cordy's place in my heart when she got on the show, until Spike became a cast member in season 5. And I was really sad when she died. BUT, there came her replacement - Illyria. She's awesome, IMO. And I fell for her as well.

Then came also the dilema. Because as much as I loved Fred, I love Illyria as well. And we can't have them both because Fred is dead. There are some mixed feelings here, because if Fred hadn't died, we wouldn't have gotten Illyria. But I didn't want Fred to die! See my dilema? Do you feel the same, or do you prefer one over the other?
 
I like them both, just in slightly different ways.

If I had to choose one of them to be on the team to fight evil then I would want Illyria around. If I had to pick one of them to be friends with I would pick Fred.
 
I can't decide. Because I do love both, Fred & illyria. I just cannot decide. I could never choose one or the other. Even though Fred is dead.:/
 
I am unable to choose between the two as well. Fred is one of my favorites but Illyria is just so blue and kick-ass that how can I not love her?

I am pleased with the arrangement we got though, an albeit tragic ending for Fred (after years of blossoming as a character) that led to something that was equally amazing as herself rather than just leaving a gaping hole where she'd once been.

(Weren't there rumors though that for Ats s6 - that we never got - Joss had a plan for keeping both Fred and Illyria?)

I prefer Fred and I hated her death but I like Illyria too and right now I definitely wouldn't want to be without her (if it's a she but since they're using Freds body lets call her she). Since I can go back and watch episodes again and again I've come to terms with Freds dead since it brought something good.
 
I would want Fred, because of what it would mean for Wesley. As of right now, her soul is supposed to be gone, right? Burned up when Illyria took over. Aw, now i'm getting sad all over again. Damn writers, creating characters that are so real that when bad things happen to them it feels like your guts were ripped out and violently stomped on.
 
Fred Fred Fred!!!! I LOVE Fred!!!! I choose Fred!!! 😀 I love her SO much and hate that she had to die. Illyria was cool, but Fred ANY day.
 
I feel the same I love Fred so much she is just so lovable to me. I love Illyria though. I can't choose at this moment who I love more. I look forward to seeing Illyria but it upsets me because Fred is gone so it is a huge dilemma.
 
I adore Fred. She's sweet and kind and most importantly - INTELLIGENT! She's just such a pleasure to have on screen. I have nothing against Illyria, but to be honest she just doesn't do it for me like Fred does.
 
This is a very tough decision, but I will have to give the edge to Fred. I can feel that the writers had big plans for Illyria, and they were just beginning to "plant the seeds of humanity" in s5, and gives us a lot more character development in season 6...before they got cancelled

Side note, I read that there were plans to bring Willow back in Angel season 6 and either make Illyria more like Fred or bring Fred back to life. Can anyone comment on this?
 
Fred was geeky and i started to like her the more i watched Angel but i can say i didn't like Illyria. I don't know why but for some reason i just didn't like her.
