Ive got about half of Buffy season 8 comics and 4 Atf ones.
Ive never been into comics before this, and, taken for what they are, i think theyare quite good. But, its just the canon status that annoys me. If they done anyother Buffy or Angel comic and canonized it, i wouldnt mind, but The Official season 8 and Official After the fall tags annoy me.
I feel that its an injustice to the TV show. I doubt the comic fans mind, but as a non comic fan who does like the comics, i hate that the comics are canon. As i said, i wouldnt care if they canonized a faith or Illyria comic or something, but the official season 8! thats just crap... is it just me it annoys? Bad Joss, please change your mind if you read this.

I LOVE THEM!!!!!

great writing, not so great artwork sometimes, but fantastic writing...

The dialogue in Buffy is great,

"is there a non winey way to deal with this dawn?"

I'm a huge comic fan, and I have been for years.

So... understand what you mean, I love having in-canon Buffy and I love the comics, but I miss the music.

The use of music in Buffy was always so great and I think that the lack of music takes a bit of the 'yay' out of the comics.

geek spasm, when i read the first issue, i read like the first 2 pages (as the teaser) then played the buffy theme before reading the rest.... yeahhhh!

lol @ Fake Shemp. I like that idea.
Yeah, I say they're a legitimate part of the Buffyverse.
Moseso than almost all of Dark Horse's previous Buffy offerings.

I also like other Buffy stories as well, provided they are told well.
I tend to think of them more as "what if's?". Kinda like novels.

I still say DH should shoot for an alternate universe Buffy line as well and start the whole thing off at Welcome to the Hellmouth.
What if Angel never arrived at Sunnydale? Go from there. Things could get a bit more unpredictable storywise.

I meant to do a poll with this and it didnt let me, im pissed off with this.
7 seasons of Btvs slayer up on the shelf next to a pile of comics. grrrrr
yeah, im annoyed

Ok, stop buying them then.
Simple.

I'm sure a new Buffy video medium will appear out of thin air for you.

No I don't mind.

Don't think I would have bother with it if they didn't call it season 8.
Joss involvement is also a must.

/SK

yipee, thats what i was hoping for. whens it out?
When you can convince the all the actors (even those who don't want to return), studios, writers and everyone else involved that you'll be happy to foot the bill for production.

I actually don't mind it.
I mean, I would prefer the TV show over the comics any day... as I'm sure most of the Buffyverse fans would... but it is what it is.
I'd rather have the comic version than no version at all.

And it's a new medium... and trying out new things is always a good thing.
Maybe after Season 8 fans will decide they don't like the comic version and stop buying it.
DH won't want to produce another season without a solid fan base.

So it really comes down to what the fans will support.
Comic canon vs no continuation?

I'd pick the comic anyday.

As for the prospect of an AU version... I'm all for that.
I'd love to see our "What ifs.." turned into something tangible.

Thanks. I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one.
I'd like to see how the characters would turn out given different circumstances.

Just imagine how gleeful Joss would be to rewrite his own creation.
"Oh, so you think you know Buffy huh? Well get a hold of this if you can 'cuz we're on a rocket ride..."

Although, some may argue that this is precisely what he's doing already.

I concur. That would be wicked cool.
Actually, if the Buffy and Angels weren't canon, I would never have started buying and reading them. Before these comics came out, the only comics that I had read since the early 70's were the "Death of Superman" and "Resurrection of Superman" arcs. I didn't even know that Supergirl (the original one) had died.

xgirlanachronism245x agrees: I concur. That would be wicked cool.
*laugh* There are so many possibilities.
What if Buffy started out as a lesbian - what effect that would have on Xander (or Willow!).
Would he have joined the Scooby gang at all? Or would he eventually become a regular foil as a vampire?
The brief view we had of him in The Wish would be interesting to explore.
What if Drusilla became the "Spike" of that reality? Or Darla? Suppose she never sired Angel but took Drusilla as lover instead?
Would Jenny Calendar have died? Would we see a different Giles? What of Oz?
Where would things have gone?

So many things could happen. So many possibilities.

Okay, I seem to be quite the outsider here, but I just hate comics. Never really could stand them. And that's why I sort of do mind that s8 is in comic form. Well, I still wish they'll do a real book of it someday and until then I just try to read some spoilers, because there is no way in hell I'm regularly buying comics.

Actually, I'd lay money that it WILL be novelized at some point.
I love them. I'm glad Buffy is continuing. I'm also enjoying the storylines so far.

I actually really like the idea. Joss is a huge comic fan, so I understand why HE did it. Besides, I think it would be near impossible to do all the episodes Joss would've wanted to do on TV. Then again, who knows, they're pretty damn popular now that it's been 5 years since S7. I bet some station would do anything to get it. I'm content with monthly comics at the moment though, so it's cool for me.

Actually, I quite like looking at my S8 comics standing tall right next to my series collection. And the comics are great. It doesn't matter that I actually CAN'T hear them speaking. I can hear it in my head.

yeah the characters have always had such distinctive voices, i dont mean how the actors sound but how they are written. i mean on the main page here you can hear the lines from the quotes, and id rather the comic than nothing at all.

I don't mind that they are canon, but I have to say I am not enjoying the artwork. I think Buffy deserves Astonishing X-men quality artwork (although I love Jo Chen's covers). Still I agree with everyone who said they would not have bought them if they weren't officially canon. Non canon works have never really interested me. I think I've been enjoying the Angel comics more than Buffy though.

I have to say I am more excited about Dollhouse and Doctor Horrible than any of the comics though. Whedon's work is especially amazing when you hear actual people speaking his words.

Personally, I am absolutely delighted that these season 8 comics are canon. I had never so much as thought about any comice before this season. It took me awhile to adjust to the medium but (unlike ATF in my opinion) seasons 8 genuinely feels like the show. I can hear the actors delivering the lines and I'm excited about issues (cannot wait for the continuation of the Fray arc). Without the comic we would have nothing. Of course I would prefer it to be played out on screen but beggars can't be choosers. We asked for an 8th season and we got it. Be happy, how rare is it that show gets resurrected like this?

As for an AU retelling of Buffy? I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever. To me that is basically just glorified fan fiction. I can get that on the internet just fine if I want it.

Of course, the irony is, if Joss geta the chance to make a new Buffy of Angel movie/mini series/whatever with the original cast, he'll toss either Season 8 or After The Fall into the dumpster if he comes up with a story he likes better.
