Do You Often Feel Jealous of Other People's Lives?

Yep, no matter how much you have in life, there will be times when you want just that little bit more......

And you can also guarantee that whatever you do have, someone somewhere wishes they had that too.....

I do think you can turn Jealously off - not a lie, just have to know and love yourself first. Direct your energy to what is more important.

I dont get jealous of big houses, too much to clean! I dont get jealous of looks - that is so shallow I cant even begin on it, plenty of people with facial disfigurement do just fine. (And with my massive weightloss the congrats are flooding in... I didnt diet or exercise, I just dropped medical treatment). Getting jealous of possessions I can understand, its like when you watch toddlers and puppies, if one has something they ALL want it. I agree that is human nature, but also something you can grow out of.

I do get jealous of peoples food. Some in Singapore and Thailand have some amazing looking food! But that is a need in life, a want for more tastes and experiences, Jealousy is perhaps not the right word. I used to get jealous of able bodied people being able to do so much in a day, but I've learn to accept my boundaries (well not completely, I still push myself too much) but I have accepted that my body can not do the same thing as others in their 30's.

Why spend time and energy on things you cant have? Or believing snippets of anothers life, makes theirs better than yours. Your worth comes from within, not what you have or how you look. A strong sense of worth helps keep the green eyed monster at bay.

It's not the money, but the freedom of money that I envy I guess. Sometimes. But I'm still an aspirant, with my book plans and things. If nothing comes of it, I will say I enjoy my own company. I love my humor and my thoughts, and I do insist that without these precious things of mine I wouldn't trade my life or position for one of theirs.

I get it though; times are rough.

No, not anymore. I did as a teenager as most of us do, but I'd agree with the majority that money is the only thing I can get jealous over, so I can have a big home and remove myself from other people and their nonsense.

As I've grown older I've become more sure of who I am and like @OccaQuokka says, that's the thing!
I've witnessed adult woman acting out in the most extreme ways for attention because they're deeply insecure but do not want to confront the issue. Fake confidence can lead to some embarrassing situations. I had a friend who revealed herself a couple of times that the confidence of being the loudest and most attractive was fakery and she was deeply jealous of other girls, who she refused to hang out with. I guess I was the ugly one. Until I became too threatening.

The point is, that is no way to live a life. Your life is lived for you! And as a woman, your self worth should not be connected to the attention of men. I genuinely didn't realise how much jealousy and insecurity can mould a person's behaviour towards others. It is immaturity taken to its extreme I suppose.

I find a lot of the people who seem to be living charmed lives are full of shit who tell themselves they're happy. Eventually there's no need to be jealous anyway, we all end up in the ground. Enjoy it while you can!

I think the only time I ever get jealous of people is when it comes to relationships. Like when a couple seems to balance each other out perfectly and have a stable, healthy relationship. And I seem to be unlucky in love. And I'm a fantastic catch!

There's one woman I know from the gym. She's always so happy. It just radiates from her. And it doesn't seem fake at all. I'm not jealous of but I do wonder what the hardest thing that has happened in her life or if her life has been perfect. I much rather my life- walking through some darkness and being able to really relate to others who have gone down a darker path.

I think the only other thing I get jealous of is the fact that I have a chubby face and I would love to not have a chubby face. I find it hard to gain muscle but others will be jealous that my abs start to show from training pretty much straight away but I cannot for the life of me lose the double chin I have. I hate it so much! And there are girls out there who will have a belly or extra weight or whatever but have a skinny face. I'm so jealous over that!

And it's not just celebrities that cause bitterness. The other day I was feeling super jealous of a close friend whose life is just so much happier and normal than mine.

Which celebrity would you be jealous of ? I cannot think of a single celebrity who has at least at one time in their lifes not be through addiction of some kind, financial problems, depression, separation, divorce, suicide or attempted suicide, health issues, use-of-too-much-botox and so on.

The friend with the happier life is of course a totally different story. But please keep in mind that she might not let you see everything about her life.

People might have a happy relationship, a nice semi-detached house with a picket fence, two kids, a dog or a cat and a busy social life and they can still suffer from depression or be addicted to alcohol, drugs or prescription pills without you knowing it. A seemingly happy couple might not be talking to each other anymore. The successful career-woman with the good loking husband and lots of expensive handbags in her closet might be completely unhappy because all she wants is a child that she cannot have because of infertility issues.

Life gets so much better as you get older. There is so much more happiness waiting for you. And maybe even one or two handbags 🙂 There is simply no need to be jealous.

With social media comes this advertisement of people's perfect lives.
"I just woke up like this" = face full of makeup after 45 minutes of careful application and hair styling plus 50 "just woke up" poses to find the right one
"Just chilling with my besties" = 100 photos taken throughout the night with different poses to find the right one where no one looks chubby, plus an additional filter for extra oomph
"Look at little Billy walking!" = 30 minutes of persuading little Billy to stand up, before he pooped in his nappy and you changed him and realised his clothes were dirty so changed the clothing, so Billy got grumpy and you had to feed him and eventually he took a step and you recorded it but the lighting was off but now Billy's asleep so it'll have to make do

So yeah, never believe anything on social media. 😉😛

Social media promotes fakery, so I do my bit to challenge that every chance I get. If skynet is going to take over, then they can have all the negatives of human existence too.

Lol, I love you.

Just an observation: I've seen people who radiate what appears to be genuine happiness even on the streets while some who seem to have everything can be miserable. An obscure philosopher wrote about it, on how people who had nothing were grateful for the smallest favors while shrugging off the bad while those who lived in luxury got jaded to all that was good and had no tolerance emotional endurance when times got a bit tough.

I knew 2 on the streets like that, but I wouldn't say either had charmed lives. One was killed by a jealous boyfriend (simply because she talked to him...I know what happened over that talk because I was there, but he got her away from us before he killed her in a rage). I think she and I would've been good friends, had she lived long enough for us to do so.

Once I was with 2 kids (one a teen girl new to high school) waiting for a friend of mine to pick us up, and ordered a pizza while we waited. I'd pulled out a health bar I'd gotten earlier that day and ate it. I got some hate glares from women that I just shrugged off at first.

And then our pizza was ready and we expected my friend within the next 5 minutes, so we waited outside for her, me holding the pizza boxes. And then I saw 2 more women glare at me, one from within a pickup. And the men didn't (though on that topic, I get a lot less male stares when I was with the teenage girl, glad I wasn't so pathetic as to be jealous about that rather than concerned by how adult men liked to look at the underage teen), so it was just the women, and therefore I was sure something was going on.

So I asked the high school girl next to me if she knew why so many women were glaring at me and she pointed out I was in shape while eating a seeming candy bar and/or holding boxes of pizza. Of course! Glad a high school girl was there to remind me of how the world worked (and that for too many of us, high school never ends), though I added to myself that those women probably assumed the kids were mine (because they couldn't conceive why I'd be with them otherwise) so that adds yet another reason I should have more weight and probably should look older than I did. (They probably assumed that I had candy bars and pizza every day, too.)

It's rather sad. One of the most dreary times of my teen life was when my drunk mother would call me in to show off her old modeling pix (and she tended to put down my looks a lot) which were her glory days. But she was treated so foully by the agency and other models (though she was no sweetie herself) that I couldn't imagine why she'd go through with it. To me, it meant my mother had no self-respect to allow herself to be treated like that, but to her it was quite the achievement that she felt proud of, like someone might climbing Mt. Everest, though she felt her life was never going to be exciting again once her modeling career was over...I do hope she changes as she gets older, but I don't dare hope she will. But there are lots of women who believe their looks and desirability to men are their most valuable, and perhaps only truly important, quality to possess with all else trivial (or bonuses at best).

I'm glad I escaped that, and feel bad for the many who have not.

Yes I can relate to this a lot.
I don't get jealous of a lot of celebrities because I like a lot of celebrities and am happy for them.
But I was overly jealous of my celebrity crush who was Ansel Elgort's ballerina girlfriend. She had everything that I wanted. A nice body, beautiful facial features, money etc. For weeks on end I was crying about how I felt inferior to her but after a while, I accepted my flaws. I thought maybe I'll never have the perfect body or be a professional ballerina but I could build my self esteem and live a decent life. After a while I found other famous people who looked just like me and this helped me embrace myself.

I guess I was and still am slightly jealous of people I knew who had normal, easy home lives and didn't have to worry about the mental things I did, eg. how badly will the house be smashed up when I get home from school. Obviously no one's life is perfect, but I remember when I met my ex, and spent a lot of time with his family, we even moved in for 6 months while looking for our own place, and I thought, wow, this is how a normal family acts. They were relaxed and happy and didn't ever seem scared or upset. They were most definitely upper middle class, and had no worries when it came to money, not really. Whereas back home, if for example the washing machine broke, it would be a huge deal, an absolute nightmare situation.

I guess at the moment I'm jealous of people who can work. And I'm kind of jealous of people who can get a new house without having to make themselves homeless. The system doesn't give a shit about you if you can't work/are poor.

Im glad this thread came up again haha, I was getting all angry about not having enough money - now I realise I had two very very spoilt rabbits who were eating more than their fair share of the food budget. Now they are both on full garden diet and I am all happy in the brainpan again.

Well kind of... Many of my friends are really quite successful. My brother has a Master's in some IT field and is working for a small new company that is expanding very quickly and one of his best friends is his colleague. My best friend is currently writing his Master's thesis and he loves what he does and is getting nothing but straight As. My other best friend is also quite successful at a different company and just bought a house with his girlfriend and they're expecting a kid. Another close friend is working for a bank.

And here I am. Single, not loving what I'm doing, no idea what to do after I've finished my degree, which I kind of have to finish now because I'm almost done and I don't want the last 3 years to be a complete waste of time and money. It's not all bad, I like certain aspects of it, but it's not enough for me to be able to work in that field for the next 40 years.

So yeah, I kind of envy my friends for having found their place. I haven't and I sometimes feel quite depressed because I don't know what my future will be.

I think that jealousy is a feeling that we all feel at one time in life. One may be jealous of a person who has a simpler life, one can envy money or physical appearance. Me is above all the physical. Let's say people already criticized me on this and so I suffered, I still suffer. So yes when I see actors like David Boreanaz (to take an example that everyone here knows), the well muscled guy, handsome face, handsome man with great charm, I am extremely jealous ! I say to myself " what the **** he has more than me ? Why did he come into the world with an advantageous physical like that and I had bad luck ?"
