Do you picture people on here as their avatars?

I do. It doesn't matter how old you are or what your gender is...if you're a guy with a picture of Cordelia, that's who I see you as. If you're a girl and your avatar is a picture of Giles...well, hello there Rupert. It's so strange but it's just a natural reaction I guess. Does anyone else do this? I searched this before I asked it because I was convinced that someone had to have asked this before but nope. So do you guys see me as a slightly intoxicated and/or skanky Whiskey? Haha...but if I see an actual picture of you, then my mind replaces your avatar image with your real self. Also, if you have an avatar that has more than one person in it and they're of different genders, I see you as the gender that matches yours. Yeah...

So strange. Does anyone else do this?

Yes. Even though I know what some of the members look like, I sometimes picture them as their avatar. Like This Year's Girl (the mention doesn't want to work. Sorry Miki). I know what she looks like, because I'm friends with her on facebook... but I always picture her laughing the way Buffy is in that still and with blonde hair. And [MENTION=11012]LoveLoveLovix[/MENTION]. I've seen her in person and still sometimes I imagine her as Kennedy.

Haha I always picture her as Buffy in that scene. Even if she were to post something really serious I'd imagine her laughing like that as she typed. It's kind of like when you hear someone on the radio. I always have these images of what they should look like based on their voice, but it's never what I expect.

Very much yes for the most part... Or at least the avatar has a big impact on how I imagine the person in real life to look even if I don't imagine them to be exactly the same, I do imagine the general "feel" of their avatar to apply to them.

I agree with [MENTION=6330]arabella[/MENTION] that even if I might not think of them as the actual picture I get a certain "feel" for them because of it. But I think this can also be dependent on the fact that people often go for avatars that speak to them in some way, like I went for mine because I am a giggely person. 🙂 But in some ways, I might also become one even more so, because people incourage and notice that side of me because of my avatar. So, its kind of like the chicken and the egg stuff isn't it: what came first, the person or the avatar? 😀 mihihihihi

LOL I suppose so, unless it's people I consider myself to be good friends with on here. I know what a fair few of you look like.

If you picture me as Faith you definitely have a shock coming if you find out what I really look like haha.

I also often know who's posted by looking at their avatar before their username.

Yes, I do 🙂 I don't remember usernames, but faces. So when someone changes their picture I get confused as to who i'm speaking to xD

Well I am constantly changing my avatar, so I have no idea what that says about what people think of me, LOL, but yes, I do that too. Even though I'm Facebook friends with quite a few Merrick folks and know what they look like.

I do this too and it really throws me if two people have the same av or when people change theirs. I wish I looked like Eliza but unfortunately not 🙂

Lol, yeah, it can get super confusing when more than one person have a avatar! But it depends too, in some cases I look at the name first before the avatar. [MENTION=11012]LoveLoveLovix[/MENTION] for example is that pic of kennedy for me, but [MENTION=10363]zobothehobo[/MENTION] is her name. I don't know why really... it's strange how my mind works. 😀

I tend to associate people with their avatar, not really picture them like that person but that picture will make me think of them. I get confused when others change their avatars, but I change my avatar quite frequently myself 🙂 So I guess I confuse others... but I usually try to use Eliza Dushku so that I at least have a theme that I'm more recognizable by even if I switch it up 🙂

Nope, I'm pretty good about remembering usernames and I don't really picture people on here all that often. I know several people who have avatars of their opposite gender and some people change their avatars enough that I never really began to picture them as their avatar.

NY State of Mind (sorry, the mention thing won't work...) changed his avatar a few months or so ago to a picture of Gunn and I didn't "recognize" him. I needed a little while to get used to his new looks.
