Do you remember this movie?

Ok, I know that this description (based entirely on the faded memories of my 5 year old brain) will sound like an animated acid trip, but bear with me.... It was an animated film that I watched around 1990-92, but I don't know how old it actually is, and all of my memories of it are extreemly vague.

I vaguely remember a boy asleep under an apple tree and a pagassus (sp?) that comes down and wisks him away, however, this could be the production company... After that, I remember a boy being led around by a seemingly small horse, possibly a pegussus. Then there's something about a beautiful girl and the boy needing to be older and consequently being dunked in big vats of magical something or other. I think that the little horse, his friend, is unhappy about this. Slightly before or after the vats, the boy and the little horse are stuck in a jail cell or something like that. I then have some vague image of a wale and a long stone wall that goes out to sea.

If this sounds even remotely similar to anything anyone remembers, please let me know what it was called (if you remember). I think that this was one of my favorite movies when I was very young, and I would like to be able to remember it more accurately...

...Also, I appoligize for my incoherency, it's very late.

The only thing that has any resemblance to any movies i've seen is the whale and the long stone wall! Can everyone say "Free Willy"? But the rest of it is mad! The little boy and the Pegasus I can understand... there's loads of movies like that! But the vat... huh? I think you might be on something! lol
 
Can you remember the style of the film - e.g. Disney, Animé, Warner Bros?
 
Growing up, I remember seeing quite a good number of both theatrical and made-for-TV animated features.....but this one you are trying to describe doesn't seem to ring a bell.......but fret not, fair Kindred.....there may be hope yet........lol........

Thankyou so much for that link OLD MASTER, I think I found one or two movies that sound promising... I'm off to look now.

Thankyou soooo much OLD MASTER, I found exactly the movie I was looking for. And the thing about the vats, slightly correct, turns out they were cauldrons.

Here's a summary:
"The animation is beautiful - up to Disney's standards in Snow White, Fantasia and Bambi. I knew it was Russian film, but do not remember reading the subtitles. It was a tale of fantasy concerning a young boy who had to rescue a princess by passing through a series of "tests." Typical folk take fodder, but the great moment when he has to jump into each of three cauldron - one freezing, one boiling and I don't remember the third - kept me breathless, each and every time they aired the film. When he jumps into the third cauldron it seems to take forever before he emerges. I was sure he had died. But he emerges, no longer a slight young man, but a hearty grown man, worthy of winning the princess."
 
haha i hate when that happens...vague memories of something...

while we are here...does anyone remember a cereal that was square and had like fruity icing inside? it was called jewel something, or something jewels...its driving me nuts cuz i loved that cereal!
