Do you think BtVS would have been the same if it was more violent?

Haha nice! My mother is a huge horror movie fan, so she used to make me watch all of them with her. The only movie I ever freaked out too was Pet Sematary when I was 6. I couldn't look at my black lab at all for the rest of the night. Good times 😛

Nah, I think Buffy was violent enough - in fact some of it was pretty gosh darned brutal! Sure, there was a little less blood than what some might define as making a 'violent' show, but there were stabbings, beheadings (they were all demons, but still, their heads did roll) electrocutions, head smashings, etc. Xander lost his eye (horribly) in full view of the camera, Spike was attacked by flesh-eating bugs, and there were several impalings. Don't forget about vampires constantly chomping into necks and draining people of blood (with pumping noises) until they dropped dead.

Sometimes when violence is done off screen where we can't see it, it can be even worse than if we did - our imagination can fill in the blanks and conjure up some gruesome images. Remember when The Master poked out the vampire's eye? The Gentleman cut out the guy's heart? Adam murdered the child? All that stuff happened without us actually seeing it, but the power of suggestion made those scenes really uncomfortable to sit through!

I started watching when I was 7 years old during the summer of 1998. This was between seasons 2 and 3. I would NOT have been able to watch it if it were on HBO or anything like that, mainly because we didn't have premium channels. But as far as if it were more violent, I dont think it would have mattered because my parents never really watched it unless I was watching it around them. But I was "banned" from watching it partially into s6-7 because one of the characters was a lesbian (As a future "F YOU!" I came out as gay at 19... soo...) but I continued to watch anyway because I HAD MY OWN TV and WAS A TEENAGER. Sorry.. issues. But as long as it wasn't TOO sexy, I wouldnt have minded a little more violence. But I agree that it was violent enough. It's not about the violence. It's about the story.

Absolutely not. Like [MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION] said, if it serves a purpose or it advances the storyline, then I'm all for it. I don't need for Buffy to go all "THIS IS SPARTAAAAA!" with the hack and slash. Mixing that with comedy, drama, horror, and everything else is what makes BtVS stand out from the rest. It was an equal balance. Too much of one thing and it's not Buffy, you know?

I agree completely. I love an obnoxious amount of gore and sex now and then but...that just isn't Buffy.

It was the perfect mix. Yes, I wanna see some good ass kicking. No, I don't need to watch endless violence! Ass kicking plus minor gore plus demon vamp killing. Great as is!
