Do You Think That It's Right To Change Gunn's Character?

J. August Richards has said that season 5 Gunn will basicly be a new character. Do you agree with Whendon and Co. changing the character? I don't think its good. Gunn is a great character and doesn't need to be changed. He can be really funny sometimes but can also be a real tough guy. Changing Gunn is a big mistake.
 
I don't know, I guess it depends on what the changes are and how they come about. I mean Wes is totally different then he began and it's great. So I guess it depends on what direction they take Gunn and how the changes are developed and explained... But I do love him as he is... I hope whatever they do with him he'll be interesting... and that the things I really love about him, won't truly be changed...
 
I don't think he'll be a totally different character. He may have had some changes made by W & H, but i don't think it will permenantly change his personality.
 
I think it depends on what they are going to do with him.

But on the whole, I think Gun could use a change. I think he was a bit dull...
 
I don't know how he has changed, but I definetly thinks he needed to change drastically. It might then make me like him a bit more.
 
I think it was a necessity to change his character. What else could Gunn do? Going the direction he was, he's bound to be written off the show. Let's see what Joss does with the new Gunn...
 
Besides watching the current season of Angel, I have only seen S1 and S2.

I personally have grown to appreciate and really enjoy Gunn's character. When I first started watching S5, I was hesitant about accepting his enhancements. As the season continues I have seen him really use those new attributes to the advantage of all (good guys so far) on the show. He also seems to really appreciate and benefit from them on a personal level, which brings him self satisfaction. I'm anxious to see the direction(s) the writers decide to take him.
 
I think the change is for the best, his character has changed from someone (to me) insignificant, to someone to actually take into account. Not that I can relate to him, nope still cant.
 
I enjoy how the writers have made him completely different. His character was getting kind of dull towards the end of Season 4, so the change was needed. I love the new Gunn. 🙂
 
i like where thay went with his charcter, they opened up totally new doors that they can direct this charcter in, i think the change was for the better, they could only do so much with Gunn if they kept him the same as he was
 
I'm not sure I like the change in Gunn. I really liked that he was this normal guy that helped Angel save the world. He wasn't the brains or, really, the muscle. He was like Xander. I know this new change will bring about some interesting storylines, but I just hope it doesn't change him too much.
 
He's not gonna completely change... you never know... he might get funnier... that would be cool! Cordy's character changed for the better... maybe Gunn's will!
 
I am really disappointed in the change. I still love him bunches, but... He's not *Gunn* anymore. I understand that they needed to change him, though, a street-gangish, vampire-fighting guy has no place in a law firm, but still... I miss the old Gunn.
 
I think it was good & bad. It's an interesting story line, but I do miss our old Gunn too.

So do I. Sometimes, it is hard for me to believe that Gunn is the same person he was in previous seasons. Gunn in the past had self-doubt but he was a great leader and fighter who added a lot to the group. Gunn is definitely complex. Often pragmatic, he sold his soul for a pickup truck in order to keep his gang alive. I like the changes in Gunn's character until season 5 and really liked his relationship with Fred, which had chemistry and reminded me of actual relationships instead of the standard TV fiction. To me, Fred and Gunn never really fit in at W&H. The writers stuck Fred in a science lab and limited her interactions with the rest of the world. Somehow I just don't see Fred willingly selling her soul for pretty gagets. Gunn was enhanced so that he would fit into W&H. Gunn's enhancements make a nice storyline but follow a predictable pattern.

I miss the old Gunn. He was often brilliant and never sold out. Gunn had style and force of personality. I've always thought that he was under-utilized by the team. Angel isn't a great leader and needs Cordy to balance him. Wesley failed to listen to the group when he was in charge. Gunn is often ignored but he kicks ass and is seriously cool. Just because he is more stable that Angel or especially Wesley doesn't mean that Gunn is uninteresting. Gunn was a great character before the enhancement. It doesn't add anything. Being smart isn't just about facts. Honestly I don't see Gunn prefectly happy dealing with stuffy legal types. Most trials, even criminal trials, last a long time and are usually borring. I just don't like the new Gunn. He is too mellow and happy with W&H. Both Gunn and Wesley seemed a little too content for most of the season. I wonder if it was a result of the memory altering by W&H and Angel?
