Do you think Warner Bros. would want Joss to direct a Buffy movie now?

I have no clue at all if he would even want to do it, but think about it just from a bare facts perspective. We know that even though their attempt with the Buffy re-boot was a massive failure, Warner Bros. has a real interest in the franchise. At the same time, Joss just delivered an absolute grand slam with The Avengers, both financially and in quality. Now more than ever before, he's a draw, and projects that he wants to be a part of will be wide open to him.

Also, Ringer just got canned, so Sarah Michelle Geller (who I've read in interviews would be open to being Buffy again, if it fit right), isn't exactly loaded with projects (I know she is pregnant though, may have to wait on that...). James Marsters has said he'd play Spike again, while David Boreanaz has said Angel will only happen with him if it's a major theatrical release. If a true Buffy movie is ever going to happen, it'll happen soon.

What do you guys think? Likely, unlikely, never going to happen? Sure, I might be seeing what I want to see a bit here, but I think it has some merit. And it is fun to talk about.

Yes I would definitley want it to happen! that woudl be awesome, although sadly it is HIGHLY unlikely. All the stars would have to align at the right time, and I unfortuanately don't see this happening. But I would absolutely love a BtVS movie from Joss and co.

I imagine Warner Bros would love for it to happen. Joss is the new hot thing in Hollywood at the moment and his dance card is going to be booked for the forseeable future one would imagine, what with creating his own stuff and doing other projects for the studios, so they would probably like it to get done in the next couple of yars before he is consumed with work for the next decade.

As much as I really want it to, I can't see it happening. Joss, James Marsters and David Boreanaz have all said that the timeframe for Spike and Angel is coming to an end as they are not supposed to age as vampires. Whether you like Spuffy, Bangel or don't ship at all, BtVS without them just wouldn't be right. SMG is now 35 and while she looks great for it, slayers were never supposed to reach middle age. I suppose you could have comic scenes where she is stiff after a fight and tweaks mucles all the time 🙂.

You do realise that Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the TV show) is a Fox property, not a Warner Bros one, right? 🙂

Judging by the appalling quality of the comics, including the issues written by Joss himself, a Buffy movie would probably be quite terrible.

Whether you like Spuffy, Bangel or don't ship at all, BtVS without them just wouldn't be right.

I beg to differ, it would be right as rain.

I prefer to leave the thing as it is, continue to pretend that the comics don't exist at all and don't ever ruin the memory of the whole thing ending with Buffy smiling.

I'd love there to be a movie. I've never read the comics so I dont know what storyline they would pick up from, but I think it would be great.

Also with regards to Spike and Angel aging, its TV (or hopefully a film) I think the majority of the audience could overlook that. If anything DB looks just as good now as he did at the start of Angel. For those fans who couldnt, well that would be their problem.

Personally I agree a lot with david4wt. I would love a new Buffy-season on the one hand, on the other hand this season could never archieve the "charm-level" of the older seasons if you understand what I mean!

I doubt it. Avengers didn't do as well as it did solely because of Joss and every studio knows that. Even with his recent success, remaking BTVS would still be a risk; I think Joss as well as the studios would hesitate before jumping into a remake.

I wouldn't get my hopes too high on the possibility of Joss doing a new "Buffy" movie, even if the original cast could be convinced to return, which I feel very confident in saying is never going to happen. Besides which, he is almost certainly going to be too busy planning "Avengers 2" to have any spare time in the next year or so to have any time for such a project, with the probability of more in the same vein to come.

As I've said before, about the best that we can hope for in the Buffyverse would be a completely new set of characters with the possibility of one or two of the original cast reprising their roles in a limited fashion, such as Xander or Andrew as new Watchers or something similar. And even that would probably with Joss as Executive Producer, while the writing and direction work is farmed out to others.

I've said it before and I'll sai it again: if Joss does a movie about a vampire slayer, I'd rather it be Fray. Still plugs into the Slayer & vampire myths while integrating sci-fi and dystopian future. I think it could be great.

I'd love to see a Fray movie

I also think that exploring other parts of the vampire slayer mythology would be a much better idea than making a remake of BtVS.

A Fray movie would be great.

I think he was actually offered to do the reboot, but turned it down because he was busy with The Avengers, but I have no source for this.

I heard that too Sky, Joss has said many times that he would love to do a Buffy movie but the actors are all busy now and ageing, plus I think Joss is getting sick of being cancelled, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly. etc. As soon as he did the Sereinty movie everyone was begging him to do a sequel well you shouldn't of cancelled the series in the first place! I think Joss wants to move on now Buffy will always be his baby but he wants to try something different, I think it's amazing that Cabin The Woods and Avengers is doing amazing cause the new generation will finally see who our God is and how amazing Joss is! As much as I love Buffy I don't want a movie as they ended it well and if they did make a new one it be impossible to do because if they just start it with after season 7 or ten years later etc so many questions will be asked and comic lovers would hate that they ingored the comics so many fans will be dissapointed and if they did it based on season 8/9 non fans of the comics be mad too.

I would either like a new slayer for example Fray or maybe Faith or have tales of the slayers which would be an amazing series!

I would love love LOVE Joss to do a Buffy reboot with all the original cast.

Sometimes when I'm at the theatres waiting to see a movie, I imagine if I were about to see a Buffy reboot with all the original cast and characters... I feel this excited inside of me that I can hardly contain, and then I turn back to reality and get sad. 🙁

But James and David have aged quite a bit... Wouldn't that ruin the effect of Spike and Angel being ageless? :/

I personally would love to see Buffy and Spike being reunited, but all in all, I would just love to see everyone being these characters again. 🙂

Agreed on all of those, especially "Tales of the Slayers". I feel that the Slayer mythology is just too rich to not tap into, and still has plenty of life in it for all forms of media -- books, movies, comics, TV shows, etc.

I wouldn't say so, I don't think they'd just assume anything with Joss's name on it would succeed, like the Movie was a success because it was the Avengers, I'd say it would take for Joss to do a different movie, completely separate from TA or Buffy and have that be a success, before people really start letting him do what he wants
