Do you think Xander and Gunn would get along?.

They're very similiar characters. They both suffer from low self-esteem, and they both watch tons and tons of geeky movies/shows, and they both... Well, that's mostly it, actually. They both seemed to immediately like Faith. They both have trouble accepting their role as sidekicks at first.

Yeah, I think they'd get along well. Season 11, get on it!

They also had the terrifying experience of having a loved one turned into a vampire and having to stake them, they also share a distrust toward Angel's kind.

I could see then not taking a liking to each other at first; each of them wanting to be the go-to sidekick. But I think after a little time they'd end up being really good friends. Each of them have a lot of respect for those also fighting the good fight so that would be a huge bonding point for them.

I think so. I think there would be the initial feeling-each-other-out phase, but I think at their cores they have a lot in common and could work well together as friends and coworkers.

I see them getting along. Probably not at first, but after they've slain some demons together, then yeah...and it might be good for Xander, help him develop the same self-confidence that Wesley did, rather than feeling like a sidekick. And given that Xander doesn't normally put on pretentious airs and that Xander and Gunn share similar interests in comics and movies then they'd probably form an even closer bond than Gunn did with Wes.

Of course, some tragic love angle would no doubt intrude somewhere to screw it all up somehow.

No tragic love angle! Our fantasies don't go for cliches :D
Depends on which Gunn and which Xander I guess; S1 Gunn tended to be dismissive of people based on appearance- the initial way he treated Cordelia and Wesley for example- so I guess he would've dismissed Xander as a simple goof, no matter if he hung out with the slayer and fought monsters.

Later seasons Gunn tended to soften quite a bit towards any stranger; Fred, Lorne and the like. He'd give Xander the same benefit and they'd probably click a lot sooner.

I think Xander would certainly like Gunn whatever- he's cool- but might find him a bit intimidating, which he'd hide with some sort of humor.

But after say, their first combined encounter with the supernatural then yeah, they'd get along fine. Their both down-to-earth, have a self-depreciating aspect about themselves (The Zeppo/The Muscle respectively) , and can really keep things in perspective when greater events can threaten to overwhelm them.

I think they are very similar ( they have a sort of " inferiority complex" and the same time admiration, towards those who have " special abilities" or " good-looking with charisma" and sometime they do what they think it's right without considering the feelings and the complexity of some delicate situation) but , in my opinion Gunn is more faithful as friend and more efficient as " warrior": he is able to put aside his resentments and to admit mistakes by understanding the complexity of reality..... Anyway I think that Xander could learn a lot from Gunn 🙄

I think Gunn would think of Xan as a spoiled pretty white boy, a softy who had it easy his whole life, growing up in SoCal.

Xander would see right through Gunn's tough exterior and see the self esteem issues and savior complex right away. (seeing is his gift remember)

They would not initially get on. However as soon as things get tough, they'd earn each others respect, and while Gunn wouldn't let it slip right away, he'd probably accept Xander as an ally... just not with the warm and fuzzies. Xander would probably accept the gruff Gunn a lot faster, aware of just how tough Gunn actually is, upon learning what he lost, and where he comes from.

I feel like Gunn would dismiss Xander as a goof, at least at first.

Pretty much, yeah. I think that they might make a good team fighting together, but once the weapons were put away, what would they talk about over a cold beer and a couple of chili dogs afterwards? Xander couldn't relate to either a street smart basically homeless man or a super savy hot shot lawyer, even one who collected classic toy robots. Gunn wouldn't care in the least whether or not that big dome lizard was Godzilla or not, and he certainly couldn't relate to the yellow crayon story.

Xander and Gunn would respect each other as demon fighters and could get along on that basis in a purely professional level. They would be good work buddies. They would never share off time, and possibly not even consider themselves to be friends.
