Do You Trust Kennedy?

In Get it Done the First as Chloe quotes something Buffy says to Wood on her porch when only her and Wood seem to be around.

From what we've seen of the First so far it needs to be in proximity of an event to be aware of it. Either that or it needs information from a confederate.

If you watch the porch seen again, you notice not only Wood and Buffy are close enough to hear what's going on. Kennedy is also near by.

In Showtime Buffy discovers Eve is really the First. She bursts in on the potentials to confront Eve. Kennedy assumes Buffy is accusing her of something and responds.

I still think Annabelle was running from something in the Summer's house.

I don't trust Kennedy. Am I alone?

Okay, you have some really good points, especially the Eve thing. But, um, you're saying that Kennedy is helping the First? She, obviously, isn't the First herself. However, from what we've seen, the First seems to have the ability to be around without being visible, so the First could've been listening in on Buffy & Wood's conversation without being seen.

I still have mixed feelings about Kennedy; she seems innocent because of the relationship she is forming with Willow, but it seems that she is making it go too fast. Then again, if she was working with the First, then she'd want Willow to use magic so she'll go out of mind again. And Kennedy was manipulating Willow into using magic; saying it'd be sexy and she thought it would be cool. But that's where it gets a little tricky because Kennedy was so shaken by what happened in "Get It Done", and she seems concerned for Willow each time she uses her power (i.e. "Showtime" when Willow is creating the barrier). But her concern can just be an act.

I definitely don't trust Kennedy. Mainly for all the reasons that have been already stated. She was coaxing Willow into using magic and then felt practically violated when she got the lifeforce drained from her. It was an unexpected side affect, but that's what happens when you mess with something/someone whose strength you're not aware of. Even when the First mentioned how Kennedy called Chloe a maggot, Kennedy didn't seem to be at all affected by it. I know that if I just called someone a maggot and then they died, I would at least feel a little bad about it. So I think Kennedy is up to something...

Or, you know, maybe Kennedy is just holding back. Maybe she wasn't so upset about Chloe as she should've been because she knows how to keep it all in. She does seem to be the strongest of all the Potentials. But there does have to be a reason why Kennedy is getting so much more screen time than all the other Potentials; either she's pretty important to the storyline (mainly meaning she's evil in one way or another) or the writers just decided they needed to pick one Potential to develop more than the others (& give Willow another special someone).

I had the same thought about the quote from The First about what Buffy was saying to Principal Wood. I think that one of those poeple has got to be the First.

And I don't like Kennedy, so maybe it's her. She's always sticking her nose into places it doesn't belong. She's a maggot herself, she has no right to teach the potentials in training.... I just don't like her and I don't trust her.

She's also whiny because she got all upset when Willow drained her to do the spell. Willow kept on telling her what she is like when she does magic, and Kennedy just won't listen. I think she'll start listening now.

Do you remember that line from Showtime where the First is giving final orders to the Turok Han?

The First says, "Kill them all...except her".

An evil Kennedy would give that line an interesting new flavour, don't you think?

Oh my god, I never would have thought about that. Everything just makes sense now. I mean, it fits perfectly into what you're saying about Kennedy. Heh, now I kinda hope she's evil.

Isn't it a little weird though, how Kennedy was being so protective of Willow when she found out it was Amy who was playing with Willow's head? Don't you think Kennedy would've been on Amy's side if she was evil?

Amy wasn't playing on the First's team. She had her own agenda. Kennedy was just starting to get Willow where she wanted her.

Is it possible Amy was gumming up the First and Kennedy's plan?

I'm kinda not liking Kennedy a lot right now. I don't like how she thinks she is the better potential slayer. When everyone else is told to go upstairs, there she is sitting next to Willow acting like she is superior to everyone else. She also told Buffy that she wasn't the most powerful person in the room that Willow was. I think that if Kennedy really is evil, or working for the The First, then she is trying to get Willow against Buffy a little bit, getting her to use her magic and everything. And a little side note: I really didn't like how she talked to Chloe, calling her a maggot and all. Kennedy gives me mixed feelings.

I really don't trust Kennedy and I don't like her! She think she could boss the other SIT's, because she's older among them.

Rule of thumb in Whedon-world: don't trust anyone. That said, I don't have any specific reasons for mistrusting Kennedy any more than the rest of the likelies.

Much of Kennedy's behavior can be explained by her personality: cocky, pushy, egocentric, strong. I was glad to see her rather subdued after Willow's spell.

Sure, why not? There's evil and there's evil. And Amy's been nothing but a royal pain since Willow "de-ratted" her.

I think Kennedy has the right to train the potentials... for several reasons. Firstly, she's the strongest OF them, secondly, she's actually HAD training from a Watcher, and knows how to do it. Thirdly, Buffy can't be around ALL the time to do it. Someone has to, and she's the best choice.

I think that Kennedy pushes Willow into magic simply because she doesn't understand. But I think she's beginning to now. She couldn't understand what it was like for Willow to overuse her magic. And remember how in "Conversations with Dead people" the first wanted Willow to kill herself because she was the most powerful? And had magic that could potentially harm the First? I don't think Kennedy, if she was working for the first, would encourage Willow to use her magic.

The "kill them all, except for her" makes me think of Buffy still. Jonathan/The First told Andrew that he needed to kill the potential Slayers. ALL THE GIRLS. "Not Buffy, not Dawn, not Willow, Not Xander... etc." I don't think he meant Kennedy.

Enough of my defense. She annoys the hell out of me too.

Interesting point, but one thing, the first CAN BE THERE without being visible, it can be wherever it wants, whenever it wants, however it wants(visible or not), this doesn't mean it can be everywhere at every given time, that's why it doesn't know everything, but to know all the info it knows about buffy or willow for instance, it has to have been watching them for a while

Also, in the basement scene with Spike, it was there and buffy didn't know that so maybe it can choose who can and who can't see him

Yeah, you two are probably right. There probably is no diabolical hidden agenda to Kennedy.

Kennedy's purpose to the story is probably nothing more than to be Willow's Season 7 joy toy.

On the other hand...

Maybe Kennedy and the First do want Willow to activate her power before she can control it. Remember what happened the last time Willow used her power to connect with the First in Buffy's dining room.

If the first can corrupt Willow by convincing her to max her power before she's ready it's a good strategy from the First"s point of view.

Maybe that's why Kennedy is continually egging Willow on to use her power.

The first wanted Andrew to shoot "all" the potentials". This is true, but it wanted Andrew to get them all downstairs. It would be easy for the First to exclude Kennedy from that little get together.

the first CAN BE THERE without being visible...in the basement scene with Spike, it was there and buffy didn't know

True, but at the time Spike was under the influence of the first. If the same were true of Kennedy, the First could have been standing there when Buffy and Wood had their conversation on the porch.

Here's some more circumstantial evidence for the possibility of an Evil Kennedy;

Kennedy targets Willow as a Lesbian from the first moment she meets her. In a later episode she tells Willow she doesn't have "Lesbidar" (as Willow calls it) . So how did Kennedy know Willow was a lesbian?

Remember the episode where Robson gets attacked? Did you notice the Bringer in the hood that jumps from around the corner and stabs Robson is much smaller than the rest of them.

Kennedy fakes a cold to avoid the Spirit Quest. We assume she does this to make time with Willow. Another reason might be because the spirit quest would reveal her as a fake.

In Get It Done Willow's power-draining spell targets Anya, Dawn, and Kennedy. In the past Willows power draining has been limited to draining magic power. Anya and Dawn have shown evidence of such power (Anya in selfless. Dawn in CWDP). When has Kennedy shown any evidence of magic power. She has unactivated slayer power, but if that was good mojo for power sucking why didn't Evil-Willow show any interest in slayer power when she could have drained a fully activated slayer in Buffy? Perhaps Kennedy has more power than we know.

Kennedy was freaked when she got a taste of Willow's true power. Why? Kennedy as lover was always impressed by Willow's power.

Kennedy as evil double-agent girl is likely to think she may be backing the wrong horse once she gets a personal burst of raw Willow power.

am i the only kennedy fan around here?
i've always trusted kennedy, but you guys are freaking me out a little with all that evidence. you make some pretty good points. but i'm still on her side.

i think her pushing willow to use magic is nothing more than genuine curiosity, since she didnt think it was really possible to "float stuff" before.

plus, she really does seem to care about willow, like when she turned into warren, kennedy wouldnt let her out of her sight.

i guess only time will tell........

am i the only kennedy fan around here?

No, you're not ... I am too, you guys are searching for the things, I don't think she's evil ... she doesn't have that evil-vibe

(And if she turns out to be eveil, blame the butterflies in my tummy!)

The reason Kennedy annoys me is because she doesn't know her place. She just comes in, all bossy and sexually predatory, and has no respect for things that came before her. She dismisses Willow's magic, Buffy's authority, even Giles and Spike. Who the hell is she to do to all that? The fact that she's rich and spoiled just makes it worse. Maybe if she could back up her tough talk with some action, I'd be impressed. So far, her only real talent is to be thrown against across a room by her opponent.

She dismisses Willow's magic, Buffy's authority, even Giles and Spike.

She merely points out that Buffy should know her place ... she isn't a god ... she should stop living up there, and start living down here.

And everybody gets thrown against the room, Spike for one even got thrown through the ceiling!

In defence of one aspect of Kennedy... I would be thrown against the wall by my opponent too. She doesn't have her slayer powers yet, so she's not THAT strong, and plus, how many times has Buff been knocked around. Quite a bit.

Yet, I still think that Kennedy is not who she says. She might be a potential slayer, but that doesn't mean she can't go bad... hello, Faith?

I think she is an agent for some dark force and is aiding the First in taking down the Scoobs and the SIT's.
I find myself wondering about when The First is telling everybody about the conversation {it} and Chloe had... what guise did the First take on there to convince Chloe she had to kill herself? I'm thinking Kennedy because of the previous actions of Kennedy calling her names and being a bossy-butt!

Double Post (next time use the edit button!):

ooh-- but that would mean Kennedy was dead, so I'm not sure

(just thought of that)
