I personal felt the songs were good especially the one that kicks off act 3 (those groupies are hilarious). The songs are pretty simple but catchy and had the right amount of humor in them. As a whole I really liked it I think I will enjoy it more when I get the DVD and watch it. Don't know why but I prefer watching stuff that way. Another gem in the Whedon crown ethier way.

Just got Act III on iTunes, so I now have Dr. Horrible in its entirety on my iPod! I'll still buy the DVD, though...I mean, how can I turn down musical commentary?!

And, now that I've watched all 3 acts a good five or six times each, I have to say that my favorite song in all of them was definitely the last song Dr. Horrible sings. It's so powerful, beautiful, and, like DDD said, the "Everything you ever"s in the background add so much to it.

I also loved all the imagery at the end of Act III; Dr. Horrible's red costume that showed he was no longer clean, him blogging as Billy that showed he IS Doctor Horrible now (at least that's how I interpreted it), etc. But I think we can expect to see more from the Doctor...I mean, the whole thing seemed more like an origin story than anything.

I think that was the intention. Not necessarily in order to continue telling Dr Horrible's story, but in order to show an evil villain origin story. It's a take on how "evil" is born and the ambiguous nature of the line between good and evil.

Those are some interesting musing BB. However...

True evil is people like Pinhead, the Joker, Angelus. Dr. Horrible had lost the option that would have taken him away from evil. That's all.

I think that this was what Whedon was trying to get at. There are no true evil. Evil is a consequence of our actions. Had Billy continued talking to Penny in the second act instead of going through with his plan none of the following would have happened. But he did and all the decisions we make effect the ultimate outcome. He didn't turn evil as a consequence of her death, his actions turned him "evil". To quote another favourite show of mine; "We all eventually
become what we pretend we are."

I agree that Whedon loves to kill innocence and that it at times is plain gratuitous like Tara & Hell's Bells. However in this instance Penny had to die. Billy's actions ultimately decided her fate and her death was inevitable.

So I was without Internet for all of yesterday except for when Mom brought me to the parking lot outside Panera so I could watch the last act. (Best birthday present Mom got me, seriously. lol. Second best was volumes 1 and 2 of the Buffy season 8 comics.) Anyway, I was gutted at first, but man, it was quite awesome. I can't wait for this to be out on DVD.

I'm not sure if the second thing that Dr. Horrible had on him (I mean, other than the freeze ray) was a death ray. It looked like he just put a piece of tape over "stun" (I think) so it said "death ray," which would cause quite a coil.

^ Which he did because he had modified it from a Stun Ray to a Death Ray. It was symbolic of his choice to go from a slightly bumbling, unwilling to actually hurt people villain to a full-blown, killing people villain.

And this is why Whedon is divine and we only mortal. With the taping over we got a laugh and came to expect that no-one would die, because it wasn't a real death ray. I love how Whedon never lies to us, but lets our assumptions do it for us.

It's things like that, which make me love Joss Whedon.

i loved all three acts very much, and for different reasons:

act I: great introduction to the characters, funny songs!

act II: deeper insight into the characters, great songs, well played dialogue.

act III: the blindsiding shakespearian tragedy, chauvinistic captain hammer got what was coming to him, dr horrible descends into the evil league of evil just like vader descended into the dark side of the force.

btw, i watched all the episodes the day they came out at 7am eastern time. if i didnt have to work those days, i would have gotten up at 3am to watch them. i guess im a whedonfreak.

There is definate hope that the story will continue...

As for what comes after the streaming concludes, Whedon and crew joked about doing a sequel. "We're not actively doing it, but definitely considering it." One thing is certain, there will be more "Dr. Horrible" comic books. "It's a rich area," he said.

It would be hard for me to overstate my Horrible!Love. I loved it. Seriously. Dig my eloquence on the subject, y'all!

Anyhow, Bad Horse being an actual HORSE was brilliant, but my really hardcore geek side (like I have any other) was just thrilled to see so many Buffy writers show up in cameos. Like half of the Evil League of Evil were ex-buffy writers. This pleased me for some reason.

It always amazes me how Whedon can so stuff like this---create projects that have depth despite being basically absurd. No matter how many times the man pulls it off my mind is boggled every time!

i showed dr. horrible to a friend who is not a supreme joss fan, and just found buffy and such to be "okay". yeah, i know, whats wrong with him? 😛 so anyway, he was just like "meh" at all the jokes, barely cared when penny died, and didnt understand one bit of the deeper meaning! i looked at him like he was an alien. then i yelled and threw things 😉.

My mum heard it from down the hall and called in 'are you watching the musical buffy?'..... so i guess even from just hearing the music quietly it was instantly recognizable as Whedon, then she came in and saw an ickle bit and was like 'thats totally him.'

I can't stand people like that. At least they could give a chance ya know? Anyway, I showed 2 of my friends Dr. Horrible, and they kind liked it. I think they liked it. The laughed at the jokes, and they said, "That is not cool." when Penny died. But a couple complaints:
1. One of them got done watching Act 3 on my iPod and I ask if he likes it. He says, "What's up with the ending? It was like Dr. Horrible then it was Billy and he was like 'A Thing'. What was that?" I wanted to strangle him and yell, "You people don't get anything!!" 🙂
2. I said I wanted to soundtrack and they called me gay because none of the songs were very "cool". I don't think they really understand that music on musicals doesn't have to be 'rock' to be good.

I kind of agree that a lot of the songs sounded very similar, there could have been more variety there, but that doesn't detract much from the awesomness that is/was this concept!

I had a thought this morning: Does anyone else think that maybe Joss kills off characters because its easier than dealing with the very complicated storylines that would occur if they survived? Sometimes characters have to die for the good of the storyline, I'll give him that. I've killed my share of characters in my stories/novels. But he manages to kill at least one (important) person in EVERY SINGLE story he tells. If Penny had lived, I think we could have had a very fascinating--yet complicated--story about their relationship, her reaction to his Horribleness, his decisions whether or not to continue being evil, the social forces that help him make these decisions, etc.

If Buffy S7 is any indication, maybe he's just not good with complicated storylines and chooses to get rid of characters rather than deal with them. Any thoughts?
