Doctor Who - 2010 Series

I only recently got into Doctor Who but I watched all of the RTD episodes and really loved them. David Tennant was amazing and I definitely haven't found the hype to be overrating him because to me he defined the Doctor. Some aspects of the reboot made me raise an eyebrow but I was mostly just happy to have more Who on the way.

So far the fifth season has not disappointed in the least. It's different than it was but they did an amazing job at "rebooting" it. It feels fresh and new but it still feels like Doctor Who. I never had any doubts about Matt Smith playing the Doctor, especially after seeing the brief first trailer and I wasn't let down. He's already as equally awesome to me as Tennant. I doubt he will replace Tennant as my favorite but I definitely see it being a tie. He has the role nailed and had it in the first scene.

As for companions, since the reboot I haven't been able to pick a favorite because I love them all so much for different ways. But Karen Gillan has really won me over as well. And the character is well-written as well. If she keeps it up she'll be my favorite companion.

"The Eleventh Hour" was a very impressive season opener, I thought. The villains weren't great, but they didn't suck. But the story of the Doctor and Amelia Pond was one of the best stories of the show. I've seen this episode three times now and I still love it. "The Beast Below" is better than it seems at first, I think. I've watched that one twice and liked it more the second time around. Again, perhaps it's not the most memorable story but it was decent, and I liked several plot points...Liz Ten and her cycle of investigating the kingdom, only to make herself forget the horrible truth. The Smilers. Logically didn't make a lot of sense but they were a little unsettling. The space whale being tortured to be forced to do what it would have all along. Amy getting to prove her worth to the Doctor. Matt's performance. (Loved the "No human has anything to say to me today" line.)

And next week's episode looks promising as well, even though RTD may have overused the Daleks a bit. Hopefully after next week we won't see them until next season.

As Moffat and Smith described it, the new Who has the feel of a dark fairy tale. The promos for the season would seem to support that. I never thought I'd say this about this show but I get as excited to see the next new episode as I do with "Lost".
 
It's only taken me two episodes to realise how much I thoroughly dislike Amy. I'm surprised, actually. Rose has always been my favourite, and yeah, since then I've been a little biased; but I adored Donna, so I didn't think it would be too hard to find love for Amy. But I find her character so very, very annoying. It's not the actress, in fact, I think Karen Gillan does a great job, I just really can't stand the character. People claim I only hate her because she's not Rose, but I just really don't like the way she acts. I might change my mind, I s'pose but so far...Dear God, I hope one of the daleks exterminates her. Anyone else sharing my not-quite-love for Amy Pond?

But, on a more positive note, I did enjoy Saturdays episode. I don't mind Matt Smith as the Doctor - Though, I'm still wanting David back! - and think he did a good job. But, gah, those Smilers! I think Dr Who turns me into a wuss, as the first time they turned into the truly evil looking face I screamed. However, I think if something in a TV show can freak me out, it's done well. 😉 I can't wait for next weeks episode!
I know everyone seems to think the daleks are around too much, popping up in every season, but personally I love them. I'm eager to see them in the Who world again

Huh. I've had one or two people suggest that her character felt a tad more generic than the other companions, but I haven't seen any hate, or even dislike fo her. Why is it that you feel like this?
 
Ah... so no one posted about the Dalek episode? I forgot, too. It didn't particularly capture me - I didn't like the new look daleks, and thought the whole episode could have been better on the whole.

This week's episode, however...

I thought tonight's ep (The Time of Angels) was the best of this series so far.
Very atmospheric, the angels still very creepy. Lots of hints (spoilers!) about River Song - wonder when that will all be explained? If it will.

Wonder what the Doctor's little jumping act there at the end was all about?

I liked it. Looking forward to next week's episode.
 
It was great.
I love the weeping angels. As for River Song it's great to see her again. I doubt we'll ever get her full story in the show. But maybe in a book at some point. So much will happen between her and the doctor and I doubt the show will go on for long enough. Unless they for some reason will sum up their whole relationship but it feels like it's too complicated for that.
I have no idea about your second spoiler so...
I'll just have to wait another week to find out.
 
The Dalek episode kinda sucked (I not impressed with the new humpbacks), but Time of Angels was a classic.

The scene where the Angel came out of the television was simply terrifying. And what is happening to Amy? I jumped when all that dirt fell out of her eye. We're definitely seeing a new side to the Weeping Angels. In 'Blink' they were scary but still quite benevolent - they "kill you nicely". In this episode they're a little darker. I mean, they kill a man, then rip part of his brain out and use it to taunt the Doctor. Brilliant stuff. And it looks like we'll be getting some answers about Amy's crack next week. 😀

I wish River-Sue would go away and die though.
