Doctor Who finale questions? (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Of course, this coming Saturday is the final ep of series four, so I was just wondering....who the hell is the new Doctor Who? I think this is the first time they've done a regeneration BEFORE the end of a season, and they kept it pretty damn quiet. There are rumours abound that it's James Nesbitt (Cold Feet, the Yellow Pages ads) which is promising. Either him or Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek, QI) would be good in my opinion

I'm pretty sure that David Tennant will be the 'new' Doctor, as he has been seen filming the Christmas special. I think that the Doctor's 'spare' hand, which was heavily featured in shots inside the TARDIS, may have something to do with it...I'm not sure how or why but I'm convinced it will have a role...less than a week 'til we find out 🙂

My little brother believes that James Marsters will be playing the Doctor. I told him I highly doubt it cause he's already been in Torchwood and it would get too confusing if he played the Doctor.

...wouldn't it be nice for us Buffy and Angel fans if Captain John (James Marsters) was the one to come in and save the day next week...after all, when last seen in Torchwood he went off to explore the Earth 😉 I'd settle for a guest appearance by him in the next series of Torchwood though 🙂

i hope he regenerates back into Eccleston

i doubt someone new will be the doctor though, Tennant has said he isn't going anywhere and is supposed to still be the Doctor in the next series

I'm with Mr. P. I'm totally convinced that either he won't regenerate at all or he will go through the process but it will somehow be controlled by the presence of his old hand, locking in the current Doctor form. So DT will basically have become the first actor to play two Doctors, the 10th and 11th. 😉

Either way, as good as last weeks episode was (and it was amazing) it would be a pretty lousy final episode for Tennant. He was basically sidelined from the battle for most of the episode and when he finally gets to Earth he gets blasted in the street by some random, no-name Dalek? That's only a step above the way that poor old Sylvester McCoy was written out.

Nope, I can't see DT's Doctor being written out in such a casual way. He has become one of the most popular versions of the Doctor ever. When he goes it will be in a much better, more appropriately heroic way than as random Dalek fodder.

It was the hand that saved The Doctor from regenerating.

What a cracker of an episode...I'm not going to say much 'cos I wouldn't want to spoiler anyone who hasn't seen it yet but...German-speaking Daleks...pure bloody genius!! 😀

I only watched these last two eps because the Torchwood team was in them, lol. I spent the whole two eps yelling at the screen 'Do not kill of any more Torchwood!!' I think I would have exploded if Gwen or Ianto had died, lol.

Truth be told, I thought tonight's ep was good, but it wasn't what I expected. I thought the ending was a cop out, I was really looking forward to having that much of a twist playing out next year...yes, I was planning on watching if that had happened, lol.

Whew. I just finished the finale and it was quite the nail-biter. But, I agree, totally not what I was expecting, which could be a good thing, really. I like when shows surprise me.

Random thing my mom told me today while squeeing over DW: When I was a toddler and in my baby walker with all the wheels, she used to call me "Davros", hahaha.

I was clapping like a loon all the way through! And I thought the same about that Regeneration scene, genius!
Davros-I HATE him! What he had to say was so twisted and awfull! I wanted to hug Ten! Oh and THAT scene in the TARDIS sans clothes YUM!

I had been spoiled for the finale, so nothing that happened was much of a shock. I wish I hadn't been spoiled though, it would have been nice to have watched it without knowing what would happen.

That said, I thought it was a very good episode, though with some cheesy moments - but what else can you expect from Doctor Who?

Slightly OT, but does anyone else think Noel Clarke (Mickey) bears a resemblance to J. August Richards?

Technically, someone did die...The Doctor Donna doesn't exist anymore. Like I said, cop out, if you ask me.

BTW, anyone else expecting Mickey and Martha to hop on over to Torchwood? Don't know how I feel about that. Martha semd to do ok last season, but I don't know Mickey well enough to comment.

I heard that both Doctor Who & Torchwood are going to have only specials this coming season and not actual seasons. I'm not sure about the number, but they're just going to have a few movie-length episodes, I believe.

well russell was on richard and judy (says my mom, HONEST lol) and besides specials no new series (season whatever) till 2010. dang it!

I think there are going to be four Doctor Who specials spread over the course of 2009, plus the 2008 Christmas special, before a full series five in 2010.

As for Torchwood, there's only going to be five episodes next year, and they plan to air them all in one week, an episode a night. Which I think is a really odd thing to do.

As for Mickey and Martha joining Torchwood - I think it's pretty much confirmed, especially as the vacancies left by Tosh and Owen were a doctor and a computer person...Martha's a doctor and Mickey's good with computers.

One more thing on Torchwood - there's a special one-off Torchwood Radio 4 play coming up sometime this summer (I don't think a date has been announced) - starring the Torchwood cast.
