Lee Evans and his love was really funny, and thinking back to how dire the Xmas Special was then this wasnt so bad... i just usually have high hopes for stuff

It was one of my favourite specials so far, after Christmas Invasion.
I loved Lady Christina.
She would have made an awesome regular one - brought a bit more risk and adventure.
I did have issue with the kiss!
I am also getting bored of the Doctor not taking a companion because he loses them - yes, we get it, move on!
We hear that ALL the time, until its someone you want to take with you.
I have to watch this again!

Finally someone who agrees with me that the Christmas Invasion has been the best special, the rest really have paled in comparison.
Yeah they don't all have to kiss him - as much fun as it is for the actress let it go already!
I think over the next few specials he may just do that i.e take a companion, but really having lost them all in one way or another it has to have an effect on him, caring for someone and losing them constantly. Part of the reason I loved Donna was because there was no romantic thing between them, it was deep friendship and he ended up losing her too. So give him time to deal and perhaps then we will see.
I did like Lady Christina which came as a shock to me, it would be good to see her again and given the ages she might be a good fit for the new Doctor.
Ok i'm scratching my head here....are you referring to Unit?

I was half-watching Doctor Who last night, but I was on the computer at the same time, so I didn't see everything that happened. I thought Lady Christina was an alright character; but I really hope she doesn't end up as the Doctors next assistant. I just have a feeling that if she was always with him, they'd end up in a lot of arguments; they seemed too similiar at times, something which would never really work out. But, she was cool. I liked the episode in general, Malcolm was pretty funny (Despite the fact I've never really watched anything with Lee Evans in it before, except the few times I'm forced to watch him at my best friends house - she's obsessed) and it was one of the best specials there've been.
I didn't actually get who the villian would be, I was talking with a couple of people about it as we were watching Doctor Who and there was a lot of speculation. Everyone seemed to think it would be the Master..? I'm just not sure, I'm not going to bother making any guesses. it might have been obvious, but I wasn't really paying enough attention. The only thing I heard near to the end was something about 'Knock four times'..? I guess it's my own fault for paying no attention.

Ohh there is no contest. I liked Runaway Bride, I thought Voyage of the Damned was OK and The Next Doctor was meh but Christmas Invasion had everything and what is great is that it builds the anticipation with the whole 'whats this Doctor like' them WHAM he comes out fights - via the Lion King!
It just bugs me because from the beginning until Paul McGann, the Doctor was an asexual being who didn't kiss anyone then all of a sudden the BBC need him to be sexed up so he has to kiss every female that comes on.
I didn't mind Rose, I loved Mme De Pompadour, I hated Martha, I loved Jessica Stevensons, I was a little annoyed with Astrid, I adored Donna, who doesn't like Captain Jack and up until she kissed him I really liked Lady Christina.
I REALLY wanna say something now - but I won't because its a spoiler in regards to the 'take one companion'.

Anyway, its not that he wouldn't be upset, its that its beginning to get tired that he uses it all the time in a special then the first episode of the season he takes someone with him.
I just wish he'd get a new line - I think Steven Moffat will work on that.
While I do agree with you, I don't think Steven Moffat will use a character that was created by Russell.
This isn't a spoiler as so much as an observation.
When the woman on the bus was talking about how his song is going to end, just like the Ood said, she also said 'hes coming through the darkness' (which initially made me think Davros and then I was hoping it wasn't) and then she said he will knock 4 times.

Why wouldn't a companion that argues with the Doctor be good?
Donna agreed with the Doctor alot, but she also disagreed with him alot, she wasn't hindered by a romantic love for him, so she stood up and told him off when he was wrong - which he often is.
I hate the characters like Martha who simply spew out what they think the Doctor wants to hear or Rose when she gets all pouty because the Doctor is with another woman/companion.
Also, see my above message on who the villain is.

I don't so much mean that the arguing would be bad, I just mean they both wanted to be the leader, I think if she kept the personality all the time they wouldn't get many aliens killed, at least, probably not. They'd be too busy arguing over who was boss.
Yes, Martha did my head in. I didn't even watch the season with her in it; she really was annoying. >.< Rose I didn't have many problems with, though she did seem a little jealous at times. I didn't like her in School Reunion with the jealousy over Sarah-Jane.

All I would say is, do yourself a favour and watch some Romana episodes - she was strong and confident and even took over from the Doctor.
Heck, there is even an episode where Romana takes control of the Tardis to show the Doctor how to 'drive' it.
Agreed, although I would say Voyage of the Damned was a piece of guff but that is just me.
I think they did that to keep up with the female audience although they really do understimate us because it is not the be all and end all. If it means something like between Rose and the Doctor and Madame De Pompadour. Everything is is just there to fill in a need they think the market has, but what is the point of it being there unless it means something.
The Rose thing you could see from the start even with Chris's Doctor (who I adored), they had the chemistry and it was great to see that continue and develop, perhaps why I still cry at her ending.
Why did I not click to that?? I think I was still to chilled from when she said it. I've just seen the repeat and think you are right.

Yes, it was rubbish, but I was entertained none the less.
Entertained in the same way I am with action/disaster movies.
Its not meant to be a social commentary, its not gonna progress any story and its not some political statement - its Doctor Who in a Tuxedo with plenty of explosions, a red dwarf (hehe), a sexy companion and sinister angels!
Yes because fangirls love a romance, they can pretend they are the the companion - problem is, they just had a season where the Doctor was pretty much sexless all the way through it and that companion is currently being argued by the fandom as the best of all time, so hopefully they'll realise they don't need to have the romance as much.
I'd be more impressed with once a year having a Mme De Pompadour story and have the companion have an 'alien' romance with someone else.
Heck, I am still praying that we get Sally Sparrow and her BF as companions!
I have so many things that constitute as a spoiler right now, but I won't post seeing as you obviously have little will power!
I cannot wait for the end though - you should try and find a recent interview that RTD had in the Times, he let some things slip that seem cool.

I started out not keen on Donna because she annoyed me a tad in the Christmas Special but she really grew on me and I love her, saying that I loved Rose too but for different reasons, they both brought out different sides to the Doctor. Martha on the other hand just annoyed me. I've said from the start I would make an excellent companion 😀
I loved The Planet of the Dead...it felt like a real old-school adventure...like RTD (or it could've been DT) said in 'Confidential' - it was the last romp before they start to get really serious. Much better than the Christmas special IMO. Michelle was surprisingly good...must've learnt a lot being Bionic and David was excellent. Another surprise for me was that I actually liked Lee Evans...I normally don't 🙂 I thought it was a nice touch that they used the same UNIT captain from the parallel timeline in Turn Left.
...and to join in with some of the other OT stuff...The Christmas Invasion was the best special so far IMO but this one is now my second fave. I have a feeling that EB may be right (again...curse him!! 😉) about the final adversary...the previous story was left open-ended enough for RTD to tie up the loose ends he left dangling -

I've just been tapping my fingers four times over and over on the sofa arm (Mrs P thought I was going even more mental 🙂) ...it does indeed become the sound of the drums
I have no doubt that the remaining specials are going to be really good, as you say RTD is going to be cleaning things up - the last one as much as I don't want to see it because it is David's last I think is going to be something special indeed, as Russell himself said in an episode 'it is all mine'.
I've only just got round to watching it but I loved it! I thought it was brilliant. Loved it when the Dr sonic-ed his glasses into shades and his face when he tasted the sand.
Really going to miss David Tennant, I just think he's so compulsive to watch as Dr Who and he makes you feel all safe and warm 🙂

I really enjoyed this special, and ok like everyone said could RTD not keep writting in an obligatory snog! Lee Evens was ace, and I liked Martha BTW, I would blame the writers for writing the lovelorn aspect of Martha which did not appeal to me, but she held her own in the end, and she is a better character now than when she first came on screen. I am looking forward to the sound of the alarm clock going da da da da...etc... *taps fingers* I only hope that Rose does not come back again, her story is over, and I know RTD has an annoying habit of bringing the companion back as if he can't make up his mind wether the story is over, leave it( the comp story end) where you left it the first time RTD! BTW Sally Sparrow got on my nerves.

Just finished reading RTD's "The Writer's Tale" which I got for Christmas. Essential reading for all fanboys and girls. Gives a fair bit of insight into Russell's leaving and some great insider views about "Voyage of the Damned" and season 4...and even further OT, RTD and the Moff are both nominated for Hugo awards for S4 eps -
