this ide comes from the show your self of thread! where allycat said that lazydolphine was old, the mr.pointy said "if you think he's old, then what am i"(o something like that) so now i wonder; does age matter?
so here you can speak your mind about that!

my opinion here is:
lthe last year or so, i have realised alot of things, like: my parents they are really just like me in many ways, they have hopes, and dreams and problems, just as children you don't see that, they are the adults and so on, and that is another thing, when you are little most people dream of becomming adults and grown-up, and i talked to my aunt about this, she is 13years older than me, and she said that, she is still waiting for that "adultness to kick inn"

age is just in the body, not in the mind! i mean my mom who is 40 she likes waching, gilmore girls, er, everwood, charmed, buffy and angel... i wouldn't call her old! your not old untill your old in your mind!

i think the thing that is great with getting older is that you learn more stuff! you know more, you've seen more...(well, hopefully you know more, that you won't get stuck behind)

I have thought about this as well! I became a first-time Auntie in September when my niece was born. And then got a new nephew in November! Well I am 29. And I'm thinking, these kids are going to grow up thinking about me, how I thought about the adults in my life. That they have money, houses, are smart, everything is settled.

I don't feel that way at ALL in my life most of the time! I do NOT feel at all like an adult! 🙂 I mean my Buffy DVD boxsets are a high priority for me. I play Xbox alot. I do have the house, I have a great job, but I'm not what I would call myself really 'settled' if you know what I mean.

I'm going to have to say that age does not matter. My 30th birthday is only a couple of months away, and I thought it would be this big huge event in my life. But I'm still me. Still single, still go out with the boys and drink too much (although the hangovers last a little longer than they did when I was 18), still cultivating a healthy distrust of the establishment and questioning authority. And despite a decade of toiling away as a programmer, I'm still wondering what I'm going to be when I grow up! 🙂

On the other hand, age always matters a bit. For example, when I consider the women I'm interested in dating I'm not looking at any 80 year old women or 13 year old girls, so to a certain extent age always matters. I think statistics like age demographics are evil and can be manipulated to say pretty much anything you want them to about any given segment of a population, but you can't argue witht the fact that it's easiest to relate to people who have had similar life experiences, which tends to be people who are similar in age to you. And as you get older, the threshold for relativity grows, so that the 12-year-old and the 15-year-old who are on totally different planes of existence will someday become the 25 and 28 year olds with a great deal in common and then the 62 and 65 year olds who no longer even give their age differences a moments thought.

Hope that made some semblance of sense! ...this rambling stream-of-consciousness rant has been brought to you today by LazyDolphin, obscene amounts of caffeine, and the letter Q.

age is just in the body, not in the mind!

So if the 10year old girl next door has a crush on me and I have one on her, we should be allowed to get it off? YIPPEE, I gotta go tell her.

In what perspective shouldn't age matter? I personally don't think age matter, expect when you have to do something with requires certain physical traits. Mental state does matter and some very young or very old ppl, are in a lower state, so in those cases age does matter.

It depends....I mean like if the girl is say 13 and the guy is 20 thats alright but if the girl is 13 and the guy is 45 thats just wrong but age sorta matters and sorta doesn't...

Ok, here goes....WARNING: THIS IS A SUBJECT THAT I FEEL WAY TOO PASSIONATE ABOUT!!!

I'm 20 years old-Alot of people are surprised when I tell them that, because while I kid around with the best of those my age, I also have a full time job in a corporate office, have an extremely overwhelming work ethic and most surprisingly to some, am married.

This always throws people off- "You're married? At 20?" And I always like to throw them further off by saying "Actually, I got married when I was 18." That's always a fun thing to do...then they gasp and ask, well how old is your husband, and I say "28" to which they ask when we met and I tell them that we met 7 years ago-which, as all you math majors know, means that I was 13 and he was 20. And then, they usually ask me why he wasn't immediately arrested the day he asked me on our first date (mind you, we knew each other for a long time before our relationship went there) .

Here is the deal. My husband wasn't the king of all things mature when we met. And me, having been through a VERY rough existence was much more mature for my age. We hit it off, immediately and not only are we best friends, but I think we have one of the most well-functioning relationships I have ever experienced. That's not to say we are extremely perfect together, because if I was telling myself that, I'd be delusional and we'd probably be on the road to break up city-we're not perfect, but our fights are healthy and we have a healthy respect for each other despite our differences in age.

In short (because I think it's time I typed something in a little LESS detail) AGE means nothing. It's emotional maturity and the lack there of that make a difference.

Well Ld, I think you put it just perfectly. I think that to some extent it does and always will mater. But in my eyes I agree with you and redslayer. I just turned 24 and I realize this doesn't mean I'm getting fitted for dentures anytime soon but I am somebodies mother...two somebodies...and so I am constantly batteling with myself and these responsabilities that I started facing way to young for what I was prepared. So I am trying to be a grown up which I really know nothing about. And at the same time I'm still a kid being a complete immature dork half the time. Having two little people has forced me to see my parents in a different light. It's scary....so I have a much different view on things these days and honstly I can vouch for the fact that age...doesn't matter...not in the heart. I think I'll still be waiting to "grow up" for many years to come.

Hell, I almost dated a 33 year old when I was 18...and my mother is 50 and married to a 33 year old man...my mom is just a big kid still...And before that she dated a man that was 20 years older than her...she was like 40 then...at a certain point age doesn't matter at all I'd imagine...

I think that I'd best not response to that Jacklyn, as you said, you feel very passionate about it, and if I did response, you're sure to ban me from this board.

LOL...I'll never ban you unless you curse me out 😛

I also feel very passionate about people's right to speak their minds. A good healthy debate is fine with me 🙂 Just lets try not to be insulting to one another.

No, age doesn't matter (except where what you want to do is illegal because of age - but then again what 16/17 old hasn't had a sneaky beer? and as for sex...try stopping horny teenagers🙂)

I think Jacklyn was right about emotional maturity or lack thereof.
Whatever age they are people will continue to do stupid things - get pregnant when they don't want to, get sick from drinking too much, become junkies, start wars, run organised crime, become famine victims. None of us is immune from the vagaries of life which will still get you no matter what age you are...

I'll say no more on this one on account of being 40-ish going on 18.

I used to think it was wierd for older people to chat to younger people on the net, but i'm always talking to 'old' people.

I don't really think it makes much difference because they're interested in the smae stuff as me, Buffy, charmed, angel etc.

So i don't think it matters at all, it's not like anybody is incredibley different.

You asked for it.

The whole dating the older guy, well, that's your own deal, it doesn't usually happen, but in there are some rare cases in which ppl with different ages can be at the same mental level. But it's rare.

However marrieing that young, is like .... well, forgive me for saying so, stupid. Ill explain later.

its not the age.. its the experience... maturity comes from that

but at a certain point.. gae does matter.. but in this case polexia.. i think its not the matter

pple are too subjective in life..

Here's explaining, at age 18 your at a quarter of your life, how can you know then, who you want to spend the rest of your life with. I think that's a too young age to give all of your freedom away, but if you want to, i cant stop you!

No, you can't. And thanks go to Lazy Dolphin for stealing the words right out of my mouth.

My choice was not stupid. It was a well-informed choice and one that I did not take lightly.

I knew my husband for 5 years before I married him. I had no delusions about who he was or about who I am. I loved him. I still do. Maybe, in a few years, we'll change-things will be different and we will grow apart. Maybe not. That same possibility occurs in every marriage-whether they begin at 18 or 35. You are never grown up in the most popular sense of the word. You are always growing and changing, and if you're not, you are dead. I've seen a 25 year marriage end because the people realized they'd grown apart.
The point is, I'm happy now and I have no clue if that will ever change. Was I meant to pass up love with an amazing man to go sow my oats? What if he wasn't there when I got back finding I still wanted him? Would I just sit there and pine away forever wondering what if?

Maybe I would have found someone else. I don't know. But as of yet I am extremely happy with my decision. I haven't had the happiest life and these two years have changed me into a calmer less tumultuous person than I once was. I am better for them. If, heaven forbid, that all ended today, I'd still be better for them.

How can that be "stupid"?

lol i didn't mean it like that.. i mean if your into 10year old girls and you are 15, or 20 or 25 or even older you might need some help!!

i ment that age is in the body no the mind as relative thing, like when you get"older" like when you are 25, you can still act like your 18id you want.. i ment peronality wise, not who you date! i but i don't mind age difference, just that 15 year olds should wait till the 10 old gets older.. 5years will become very little when you are both in your 20(i know your nor really in love with a 10year old, just making an ekample😉)

LD: very well put! once you come over the 20s things as age becomes unrelevant! it evens it self out!

Jacklyn: i think it's great that your married, aslong as your happy!! as long as your comfy with your life and desiistions! 🙂
( my parents got married when my father was 18 and my mom was 20.. they had me 5months later(they're marriege didn't last long, like 6years.. )
i'm 20, i live a pretty stabil life, i have met te man who is perfect for me! i'm not ready to get married just yet though, not cos i don't know my man but because i need to work on my self a bit!

i think that some people get married to fast(not you and hubby!!!) but some people get married when they don't know each other that well, when they are still in the first fase of crazy in love, and then they get married, and they haven't really had a fight yet, or been mad around eachother, or even woken up in the morning crnky... they might not know each others bad bad sides, or annoying sides.. and that's the things your gonna live with the rest of your life...
others are not sutted for marrige

i don't think it's ealy to get married at 20, as long as your ready and you know the other person, that you know what makes you crazy mad, and crazy happy!

MR.pointy. 🙂 greatly put!

*Lost Angel*: LOL i feel like that somethimes, just i feel like i'm 10 when i'm 20 😉

tuff subject, kinda really depends on in what context does age matter.....
there is physical age, body age, mind age, maturity age etc etc

im guna be 31 soon and i have gone through a lot of metal changes over the last 2 years.. i have found it tuff adjusting to being 31,single and child free as while i was growing up i thought 25 was a pensioner and id be married with 2.4 kids by then...oh well...i wouldnt mind having my body back from when i was 18 but i would not like my mind back at 18! even though i have been through a lot of pooh sincce then i have learnt alot and would not like to go back to being niave as i was... plus the older i get the more confident in dealing with people and the more i actually understand and accept myself...
we are all individuals and it is easy to pre-judge someone cause of their age, but i really think you have to consider their maturity age also when dealing with others..
i do see my parents differently now but i still think that they have a stuck maturity and growing up issues!
