does angel and buffy coincide

As a kid, I used to watch bits and pieces of both. That was a very long time ago and decided to watch them both, all episodes. I was wondering if they coincided. What I mean by this is On the show stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis, thing's that would happen in atlantis would be referred to, and impact thing's on SG1. Does that happen here? In stargate on friday it would show SG1 at 9, then atlantis at 10. Does that happen here? Should I watch them in a specific order? If I watch all the episodes of buffy then go back to watch angel, am I gonna be like.. Hmm.. THAT PERSON WAS KILLED OFF. ?

If anyone can give me some type of answer, i'd be very happy!

Once Angel got his own show, the time lines were kept consistent between the two shows as far as one affected the other (for instance, when Buffy took the Gem of Amara away from Spike on Tuesday night, Oz gave it to Angel the next night on his show.) There were several crossovers between the two shows through Season 4 of Buffy and Season 2 of Angel, then Willow and Faith crossed over in Season 7 Buffy and Season 4 Angel, plus there were times when characters on one show would be mentioned on the other, so the time lines ran pretty much parallel.
 
Alright, so I Guess I will watch them in order, to get the best experience I can out of it. Thanks a bunch!
