Does Angel wear the ring at all in his own series?

The claddagh ring he and Buffy shared. I think I recall seeing it from time to time. Does anyone know?
 
I don't remember ever actually seeing the ring, but then it wasn't ever needed as a ploy device there, either. It was kind of like Duncan Macleod's sword, or any TV cop's gun, never actually under his coat until it's needed in a scene.

Actually, you can see him wearing his Claddagh in the beginning of Angel S2 (he's definitely wearing it while singing for Lorne in "Judgement", for instance), but then it disappears again around "Darla". Kean came up with a theory about this. As we haven't seen Buffy's Claddagh since Angel fell out of hell on top of it, and the first time we saw his again was in "Judgement", it's likely that Angel has both of them, but doesn't want to give Buffy hers back until they can be together for good (which was what he thought when he gave it to her in "Surprise"), and he doesn't wear his because he fears that'll never be possible. However, once he learns about the Shanshu, suddenly there's a chance he'll be human again and then he'll be free to be with her, so he starts wearing his ring again as a symbol of that hope (but still won't give Buffy's back until the prophecy actually comes to pass). Then, when he starts becoming more and more jaded about the evil in the world as S2 progresses, he loses that hope and stops wearing the ring again, and he's had both rings on a chain somewhere for safekeeping ever since.

Yup, Angel wears the ring in his own show and here is my little theory about the why and when of his Claddagh ring wearing.

I have this theory that Angel only ever wore the ring when he felt hopeful or like he had something to offer to Buffy (and the maybe even the world).

First off, I just want to put down the guidelines for Claddagh ring wearing:

Single but open to something=right hand, heart out

In a relationship= right hand, heart pointing in

Engaged=left hand, heart out

Married- left hand, heart in.

Right, so when he gives the ring to Buffy in Surprise it is on his right, middle finger. I'm putting forward the suggestion that he wore it that way because she had yet to accept his offer of her own ring, or more pointedly his heart. He wore the ring indicating that he was not seeking out a relationship but his heart belonged to another. Essentially, he loved Buffy but was unsure if she want a fully committed relationship with him. However, her acceptance of his ring signified to Angel that she did want a fully fledged relationship with him. This was further confirmed by the consummation of said relationship that night. I have a feeling he possibly would have pulled back from sleeping with her if they hadn't exchanged rings. Just a hunch...

OK, so now it is season three and Angel does not wear the ring at all, in fact he doesn't wear it again for an entire two seasons. Not until he is told about the Shanshu Prophecy. I think he does this because for those two years Angel had no reason to believe he could offer Buffy any type of life. The only two times he does are when he is blissfully ignorant of the curse and when he is given a light at the end of the tunnell i.e. Shanshu and humanity. He once again removes the ring when Darla and W&H mess with him and he loses all hope in regards the work he does, the difference he is making and the nature of his fate.

Basically, when he has no reason to believe he can offer anything he removes the ring. I think the ring signified hope and possibility to him.

So that's my fanwank. And I'm sticking to it.

Honestly I question how serious he was with her. While on Buffy he seemed deep in love. Once we see old flashbacks of Angel and Angel/Cordy, his time with Buffy seemed a lot let serious. Borderline pillow-talk 😛

Um...okay. This isn't really the thread topic at all.

But to comment on the post, I'm not really sure which character you're watching if you think Angel wasn't serious about Buffy. I mean, if you don't like the couple no problem, but it's a little strange to make an a post that clearly isn't true in a thread about Buffy and Angel's rings. I mean, what's the point?

There's no need to be rude... He was commenting on the seriousness of Buffy and Angel's relationship, which kinda does go along with the thread topic. The ring is a symbol of Angel's relationship with Buffy, so I don't think it was off topic.

Please be aware that all members are allowed to comment and post in the threads here, even if their opinion is "unpopular" or not along the same lines as the original post.

That being said, I do think Angel was serious about Buffy. After all, she was the only person who ever gave him perfect happiness. Maybe he stopped wearing the ring because it was too painful for him to remember that happiness?

I havnt noticed about that ring, but what bugs me is that Angel doesnt wear the gem of amara ring that could enable him to go in the sunlight without being killed... When he came back for s4 and 5 or Buffy he only pops in at night time and leaves at the funeral before the sun comes up. Silly sausage!

To clear things up.. The comment above was supposed to be apart of a different conversation on a different thread. Sometimes when I open the Buffy Boards I open many windows. This was supposed to be in response of Angel dating other women and so fourth on a different thread.. I was questioning how serious he was with Buffy.. Sorry to confuse anyone on here 😛 Too bad I wasn't talking about Clem or someone, everyone would have known I was in the wrong thread, haha 😀

Re-reading my comment up there looks like I am lost, hah :wink2:
