Does anyone else get all nostalgic watching S1?

I'd love more people there too, but I fell a bit behind, and I'm running the damn thing, so I sound a little hypocritical... this is why I hate college.

As for Season 1 and nostalgia, no for multiple reasons. For one, I hate nostalgia in general, so that's something that I'm always trying to distance myself from. Two, I didn't watch the show as it came out and saw it all recently, so there's that factor. And three, even though I grew up in and was a little kid in the 90s, I didn't like them. At all. The overly 90s stuff in season 1 is cringe-worthy (the music, the way people dress, general look and feel) and I really just wanted to get past that part, both when I first watched through the show and when I'm watching it again now (I'll be so glad when we're in Season 2... and especially 3...)

Yeah, I can understand that, even if it's not a view I share.

I've always been a pretty nostalgic person, so obviously it's never something I've had an issue with. At the risk of broaching a personal topic (not that I have any right to comment after that "Amends" thread), what's behind the anti-nostalgia sentiment?

I couldn't disagree more. 😛 Everything you just mentioned is exactly why I enjoy the early seasons of Buffy.
 
Me! Everythime I watch season one im 11yrs old again (yes I was that young watching it when it came out lol) You had to watch it on tuesday cuz everybody in school would be talking about it the next day. And I remember I loved Buffy so much, I wanted to be her lol and Omg Angel was jus soooo cute back then. I mean he still looks good but obviously he got older (cuz you know...not really a vampire) But yea when I watch it Im all "I remember this" and " awww this is when that happened" lol
 
*shakes his hand desperately* Yes, me! I've been doing a Buffy rewatch for several months and I saw Season One last August. Oh man, it's utterly different! I get infected by nostalgia or whatever it is anytime I come back to 90s! And, obviously, I get impressed with the cast awkwardness that I still find sweet and adorable. And, mainly, they're so young they're almost weird XD
Ps. I know many people who really dislike S1 and I just can't understand them. If you are not cool with that - basically the beginng of everything - how can you actually appreciate the show, love it even? Mystery. Really. XD

Because it gets better as it goes on. The first season is a good idea -- an intriguing idea, even -- but it's not executed all that well. There's a good amount of sloppy writing and plotting, too many one-shot episodes that don't even give character development, and just underwhelming overall. Once they got a better idea of what they were trying to do with the series, it got much better, and that's the part of the show that I really like.
 
I definitely get a little nostalgic for BS1. I'm pretty much a newcomer compared to most Buffy fans. I started when Season 8 started. So I don't feel near as much nostalgia as many of the fans on this board feel. But I definitely revert right back to early mornings before school watching re-runs on certain episodes. Good times.
 
[MENTION=12230]Mischlings[/MENTION] : I'm aware of the "bad" execution (but still, I consider that just "naive"), and I'm not saying S1 is flawless, believe me. But, again, the seed of BTVS, its heart, the "intriguing idea" - as you said - is there, and if you hate it, flout it even, I think you're not an actual fan. Or, to be more accurate, you're a huge fan as much as those people who pronunce "Gails" instead of "Jails", when every casual viewer would see Scooby Gang never calling him that way - Case in point? Joss made an inside joke in S6 with BuffyBot, scorning these "true" fans. XD So, I love the show in general, and it's a matter-of-fact it improved with age. By the way, your av is lovely ^^

Buffy got to where it was because it succeeded in Season 1.
Of course I get nostalgic every time I revisit season 1. This is the only season where my heart doesn't get stomped, kicked, punched, or ripped to shreds. 😛 I can just sit back and enjoy all the light hearted, cheesy goodness. Come on, the Scoobs were just babies here! Unaware of what lied ahead. Knowing all the pain and suffering they went through from season 2 on, it makes me love this season even more. It's like the calm before the storm, you could say. 🙂

I definitely know what you guys mean...I get the same way.
I think Joss did an amazing job of crafting a series that was really addicting in terms of environment and mythology. He was able to convey such a rich environment, and it makes me as a viewer very nostalgic for that period of time not only in my life, but just in general.
For one, I wish I would have watched the show when it was originally on the air -- especially season 1. To be honest, I just recently (about two years ago) got into the Buffy universe because I had never watched the show. I was and still am a very large fan of Charmed and my love of that show turned me on to similar series.
I ended up watching both Buffy and Angel within 6 months - and I am currently re-watching Buffy for the third time. I really think there is something about this show that remains fresh for me every time I watch it -- and I can't really put my finger on it.
This show has made me a huge fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar - to watch her character grow over time is really cool.
I know a lot of people on this board were already getting to the commentaries and other special features by the time they ended up watching for the 3rd time, but I am still completely caught-up in the episodes. Like I said, I don't really know why.
I guess I just really dig the supernatural elements of the series - Joss created a fascinating world & mythology that has really held up -- and continues to be eternally popular (which is interesting in its' self because a lot of people think this show is "cheesy.")

Also, on a side-note: I own both Buffy and Angel. I watched Buffy first, and then much later I got into watching Angel.
When I started to watch Angel, I began to think: "Wow...this show is really good...it's better than Buffy."
But I haven't ever watched Angel again - (or not yet anyways)...I just keep watching Buffy. I probably enjoy the characters of Buffy much more...and I guess the lack of Sarah in Angel makes me want to watch Buffy.
I buy A LOT of television series because I really get wrapped up in them & enjoy myself - I literally have over 12 new series that I purchased and I haven't even broken the seal on them - like I said, I just started my second round of re-watch on Buffy - and the funny thing is that I just finished my first re-watch not more than 6 months ago.

My goal after finishing the series again is to finally watch the 2008 cast reunion disc that came along with Season 2 of Angel, and then graduate to the motion comic on Blu-Ray that I bought.
And I also bought the library editions of the season 8 comics.
So...yes...I am very nostalgic for Buffy these days...my debit card is getting tired. 😛
 
Love rewatching Buffy (4-5 times now). Every season has special meaning for me, and even though I despise season 7 and the entire Potential concept, my love for Buff and the Scoobs hasn't waned with time. I imagine I'll be rewatching Buffy when I'm 80 years old, if I live that long....
 
I get nostalgic watching the entire series, pretty much, even though I never watched it when it was on tv as it happened. I just finished a re-watch over 4 months (after having not watched it in years) and something just clicked, how much I love the series. Then two weeks ago I was surprised to find a Buffy marathon on SyFy (first time in a years that I had seen the show on television) and found myself in love with the series all over again, so much so that I had to start rewatching again.

The series gives me such a giddy feeling and I'm not exactly sure why. The early seasons are always my favorites. I love when they are in school maybe because, in some ways, I miss being in school.

This series can by like my comfort food, a way to go back and feel nostalgic no matter how fun or dramatic it is.
