Does anyone else hate Fred?

This is my first time making a thread so im sorry if im doing it wrong.

I hate Fred, I think she was a pointless character and extremely annoying. But everyone I talk to Loves her and worships her, which I really don't get.

Fred is a grown woman who acts like a twelve year old, she wears pigtails, and gets excited over ice cream. I get she was in Pylea for Five years but in the episode where she dies in the flashback she was exactly the same, so it cant all be blamed on Pylea. She was at least 25 when she went to plyea, she was a Graduate student, which would make her 30 when she returned. Thirty is too old to be acting like dorothy from Wizard of Oz. Dorothy was twelve had she been older I would have found her just as irritating. Fred is older then Cordy yet she acts like a child.

Plus, if they're going to make her out to be like a child giving her romantic interests and making her so sexual is just creepy. What is she trying to be a pedophiles dream?? She has that I'm so innocent but you know I'm really not thing going, which is just ugh.

I think Fred was just a poorly written character and amy was incredibly annoying as her, I loved Illyria but I could have lived without her if it meant we never had Fred.

So my question is does anyone else hate her and why?

Don't hate her, never loved her as a character though. With Fred there's not much to dislike but nothing much to like for me.

I am with ya.. I hated Fred. Not as much as I hated Lorne, but yeah, I was not fond of her at all; her character changed the entire dynamic of the show.

You hated Lorne? I didnt think anyone hated him. I liked Lorne but I have so many I love more.

I agree Fred changed the dynamic but not in a good way. Like I said she was pointless, what was her purpose? They had Wesley for Research, I feel like they dumbed Wes down in areas to make it seem like Fred was necessary when she realy wasnt.

I concur, which is one of the reasons I do not like her. But answer this grand wizard! If there was no LORNE how could there possibly be a Fred?

I see where your going Scobro but I like Lorne and I dont know If I hate fred so much (shockingly) I would wish Lorne gone lol. Its like I love Cordelia to bits and I hate what happens between her and Connor but I adore Baby Connor and wouldnt wish Connor gone just because of how Cordelia is ruined.

I feel the same about Fred as I do about Tara i.e. indifferent. I never really liked her but I can't say I hate her either. She's just...there.

The only time I truly disliked Fred was when she treated Gunn like absolute crap after he killed the professor. I really found her to be a cruel bitca during that period.

I don't mind fred, but I hate hate hate that she drove a massive wedge between Wes and Gunn, who I think had the best friendship on the two shows (alongside Angel/Cordelia and Buffy/Xander).

I never liked her, always considered her as like a second rate giles or willow. However, the more I look at Amy Ackers work the more credit I give to her portrayal as Fred, but she is still just ok as a character.

I hate lorne though i mean it makes no sense, he is a gay (no offense) flashy dancing singing demon who cant really be in public? he always backs out and never fights and in the last season his readings were always wrong, at least fred was smart

Pretty much how I feel, as well. I'm certainly OK with her character, and there were even times where I genuinely cared for her. But, for the most part, she's not my favorite.

I agree that they made her character extremely childish, but I kind of always chalked it up to her being somewhat of a social misfit. As many extremely intelligent people are. I'm not saying it was executed perfectly, but that's just how I saw it.

The ONLY character in the entire Whedonverse that I hate as strongly as you hate Fred is Dawn. I think that if you want to talk about Childish, Whiney, unnecessary characters... Dawn pretty much takes the cake for me. Though, I think that has more to do with the actor who played her than anything else. Amy Acker is likable for me, which makes her character likable. Not to mention she NAILED Illyria. From her movements to her speach patterns... excellent.

Lorne wasn't gay, he was effeminate. He noted that Cordelia was "oh my smoking loins hot" in one episode.

And I loved Fred. And Lorne. I loved Lorne from "...I was petrified!" onwards, and I loved Fred from the moment she turned the crossbow on Gio in That Old Gang Of Mine. Her rapid-science talk, mixed in with insane babbling, was delightfully charming to watch.

I adore Tara SHE is a sweetheart, she's mature, smart, and one of the most warm hearted characters in the show.

I dont like Dawn either but at least she IS a child unlike Fred who is a grown woman.

Fred for someone who is so smart is also incredibly stupid. It's like all her smarts stop at book smarts but everything else shes stupid at. I dont find her rambling cute I find it annoying and a waste of time. To quote Cordy: "Shut up Fred" this pretty much sums up what I think of her:

I loved Fred, she was this nice, shy and quiet girl who had a dark side to her, especially when she used a stun gun on Connor. And it was heartbreaking when was destroyed in order to make way for Illyria. Fred does not act like a child, she spent five years in a Hell Dimension and was nearly executed. If anyone acts like a child it's Dawn, god I can't stand her.
