Does anyone else hate Fred?

Fred annoyed me a lot. Partially because she knew Gunn and Wes were constantly fighting over her and she lead them BOTH on. It frustrated me... she was playing them... but she acted all innocent like she had no idea... but it's impossible she didn't know. Also, I understand after being pulled out of Pylea she'd be a bit distant... but she never seemed to get better and adjust to the world.

I completely agree. Fred knew both Gunn and Wesley liked her and it was tearing them apart but she did nothing and continued to lead them on. Then she is a total Bitca to Gunn in season 4 which made me dis-like her even more.

Not to mention Fred was never well adjusted as we see in the flashback of 'a Hole in the world' and in Spin the Bottle thats Freds personality aside from locking herself up her personality was really not altered from being in Pylea. She was always childish and annoying.

I remembered that I kinda liked Fred, well, I had a good memory of her from what I remember of the few times I had seen Angel...
But now, as I watched the entire show, I realised that I really hate her!
Well, not exactly "hate", I think the best word would be "really, really can't stand her at all".

She sort of have those "Boo, I'm so fragile and defenceless, protect me!" vibes. And it's really pisses me off in a way. It's like in Shrek, Puss in Boots (that I adore), you know, when he makes those big eyes to make people go "Aaaaw".
And her voice is so annoying! And the way she talks...
Actually, I pretty much dislike everything about her character (it's not against Amy tough...I think.)

Everytime it's a Fred-featuring scene, I really want to just skip it, but then, I would me a lot of things in the show. Since she's a regular, it's almost painful to watch Angel, I feel that sort of urge to scream at my screen "Fred, shut up, just shut up!"
I think she even much more annoying than Dawn, and that is quite serious!

Really, I have a problem with Fred and I only saw a few episodes with her! *I just finished "Billy"*

Why does everyone hate her voice? Is it Amy Acker's voice you all don't like? Or the southern accent?

I've wondered and been surprised at the same thing.
Personally I'm with you - I love a good southern accent and I always felt she toned hers down a bit.

(also I'm gonna guess that the people who hate her accent aren't big True Blood fans ;P)

No, I always liked her although she never appealed to me as much as Willow/Kaylee

Nah, it's just that it doesn't seem real. I live near Texas, and it doesn't sound like that at all.

Re:

Fred was not my favorite character. I found her girlish antics to be a little over the top at times. But I didn't hate her...I just didn't think much of her. I don't think her character had much depth. It made me appreciate Illyria that much more.

I think a lot of the reason that people dislike Fred is simply the writing for her.

Amy Acker's acting is beyond brilliant; switching from Fred to Illyria, or in Dollhouse when she's Dr. Saunders to Whiskey. There are not a lot of actors who can just flip on and off like that. David couldn't do it with Angel/Angelus, Charisma couldnt do it with bad Cordy, and Xander barely did it with hyena Xander. The only person close to her caliber was Sarah when she "switched bodies" with Faith.

(I had more to add but I'm watching America's Next Top Model so now I'm distracted...I'll come back)

I did notice her accent doesn't sound like a Texas accent... It sounded more... like she grew up in a southern/rural area and learned to speak there, then moved to a city or up north so her accent had faded significantly, then moved back.

I know this is off topic, but I found you thinking this odd. Personally, I thought DB did an amazing job switching from Angel to Angelus. His performances from Surprise compared to Innocence and onwards impressed me greatly as did him temporarily 'switching' in Enemies.

As for him switching in ANGEL during the episode Eternity & AtS Season 4, I will say he didn't do as great a job, but generally speaking, I thought DB was pretty good at differentiating the two.

Less off topic, it puzzles me when people say that Amy's accent sounds fake. It's her real accent. Well... it was. I know I read that she didn't want to use it because she spent a great deal of time getting rid of it, lol, but still. Likewise, it also puzzles me when people say Doyle's sounded fake too. Because again, it was his real accent.

Then, again... aside from TV, the only accents I've encountered were southern accents from Georgia. Or northern accents being that part of my family is from either Michigan or West Virginia.

On topic, I love Fred. Never once annoyed me except for the fact that it took so long for her to realize her feelings for Wesley 😛

I too know this is not the topic being discussed here... but I STRONGLY disagree. I think David did a GREAT job switching between Angel/Angelus.

I liked Fred during the Pylea arc and throughout all of season 3. She reminded me a lot of early Willow, intelligence mixed with a quirky, shy side. Also I think she was a nice companion for Gunn and brought out a softer side in him. The problem came during season 4 and 5 when her character was just too over-kill. Now it's blatantly obvious that Joss loves Amy, she was one of his muse's - just like Eliza is. So she was the go-to actress for two seasons. Love triangle Fred, Sweet Fred, Dark Fred, Jasmine versus Fred, LA versus Fred, Dead Fred, Blue haired Fred. It was all kinds of Fred. 😀 And you know what, Amy Acker is feckin' awesome, the woman can act her ass off ..... but, there's always a but 🙄. It was too much for me. I got all bitter because the more Fred got to do, the more she took Cordy's place. A long running Buffy and Angel character fizzled out and a relatively new character was let shine. It's not Amy's fault but I do think Joss has his favorites and he liked Amy a little better than Charisma - she didn't get pregnant for one. Yikes, that's harsh, bad me. Joss would never punish someone for getting pregnant 😛. Yes that is sarcasm ladies and gentlemen 🙂. I love Amy but throughout season 4 there was way too much Fred. Sometimes less is more.

I don't know.....people might blame Fred for overshadowing Cordy in seasons 3 and 4, but a lot of it was just that the writers completely toned down Cordy and made in boring in those seasons to the point that no one could have wanted more of her in those seasons.

Nope, no way. I have to disagree with you. Fred is extremely annoying.

And I have to disagree with you... Fred isn't extremely annoying. She's usually pretty nice and funny 😀 Only a few times did she sound annoying and it was because she was stressed/confused.

I agree. The time Gunn died for like 2 seconds she got all mad at him for "leaving her alone" and saying that AI was only online because of her. That was the only time I ever wanted to bitch slap her. Seriously woman...you didn't really contribute much! Other than that her voice was slightly annoying from time to time. But I stick with my previous statement....I love Fred!

That was one of the scenes I was referring to. That's the only time I REALLY got very annoyed. Seriously, I couldn't believe Gunn didn't get pissed. She's talking like she's the only one who had to tough it up... And also IT'S Gunn who had almost died, not her.

Try most of season three and acting like a total bit-ca in s4.
