Does anyone else hate Fred?

After re-watching some of season 4...i realize that one of the reasons i love her so much is because i have a sick obsession of wanting her and Willow to be together lol

I don't hate Fred I like her, even when she became Illyria. The Fred/Gunn ship was odd to start with and at first I was rooting for Fred/Wesley but in the end Fred/Gunn grew on me as they were so sweet together. The only thing with that ship is that imo Gunn seemed to think of and treat Fred not just as a "childish girl" but also as a replacement for his dead sister rather than a girlfriend sometimes.

I'll agree with those that say that it was her fault for breaking up Gunn and Wesleys friendship. It IS her fault whether she knowingly led them both on or not. It was blatantly obvious that they both liked her and she was flirting with them both. Gunn and Wesley had one of the best friendships in the verse and certainly in the series and it was ruined by the appearance of Fred.

I really hated her reaction in season 4 when Gunn killed the professor for her in an attempt to preserve her innocence. He did it for her, believing it would kill her if she killed a human herself. He didn't want her to have to go through the emotional torment that she would have to endure, so he took the burden upon himself, and got met with her anger and displeasure which led to their seperation.

Sometimes she can be annoying in her own right but a lot of the time she's great so I can't hate her.

I love Fred because she is Fred to say the least. She is a sweet bubbly girl and she matures into a wonderful woman. Even Illyria is one of my favorites.
I felt like Fred was a breath of fresh air to Angel she brought that quirkiness that not even Wesley brought. I say this because Fred is the definition of Quirky.

It's kind of harsh, now that I can stand Fred, she just dies!

I like her more when she isn't with Gunn, she doesn't have anymore that Damsel in Detress factor, and she is actually a capable fighter.

But I still don't like her more than that. She's better in the end of season 4 and in season 5, but I guess I will never really love her character.

Don't know why exactly, she has that thing which makes me like when she's there, but I don't look forward to it. I'm all happy puppy when I see Wesley or Lilah or Spike but with Fred, there isn't that little spark.

For now, I really can't stand her. I'm at the end of Season 3 and I hope her character will get better. She's so annoying, they've done too much of her babbling incessantly and no one understand a thing..it's good once or twice and then it starts to get old. I'm probably the only one saying this but with Gunn her character got a little better but not that much. I don't know what to say, I hope that going on with the seasons, I'll start to appreciate her.

I agree some of the few times I tolerate her is with Gunn.
I have to say I am a little bit shocked that this thread even exists! Fred was the best character on Angel, she was so sweet and funny. She softened the edges around an otherwise pretty serious environment that was Angel Investigations. Yeah Cordy was fun at the start of the show but she grew up and got boring.. I loved Fred, I cried like a baby when she died...

I wouldn't go as far as saying she was the best character in AtS, or even say Cordy got boring. But Fred is definitely not hate worthy. I was shocked that this thread was made too. It made my cry and die a little inside.

You know what, you're right. I got carried away, obviously the best character on Angel was Wesley. 😛

But I stand by my opinion on Cordelia..

First off, I adore/worship/love Cordelia. That woman is amazing. So what if she isn't 'fun' anymore? She is a FIERCE, incredible hero, and keeping her as the standard shallow 'bitch' would be a huge disservice to the character, IMO.

Anyway. Onto Fred.

I can see why someone would dislike her from a narrative standpoint, since she fits quite neatly into the 'cute pixie nerd girl' trope, she doesn't do a whole lot, and she basically reduces Gunn and Wes into cavemen half the time. They were all good friends before Fred and Gunn got together, and they never quite returned to that. And I love Wes and Gunn, so I can see how that can be irritating.

But I think I would really like her in real life. In the narrative, she and a few other characters get pushed to the side because obviously there's a bigger picture there, but here's the thing about Fred as a person- she's smart as hell, compassionate, and brave. That's not always explored in the show, but it's what I believe is true about her personality. And I like people like that.

And while I totally understand character-hate (believe me, I've got some character-hate myself), I know there are a LOT of people out there who identify with Fred. Just the same way it is with a lot of characters. IDK, I'd say just be careful with all the hate...it can result in a lot of hurt feelings.
 
For me the thing about Cordelia is just that, she was a shallow 'bitch' and that was what was so great, it was who she was. And I know that characters grow and change all the time and usually i'm okay with it but not with Cordelia because when you took away what made her so great, what did you have left? Sure she was brave, and kind and good but so were a lot of people on the show. I hope you understand what I mean, anyway that's just my opinion.

But when it comes to Fred, I don't understand the hate at all.
 
How can you say you hate Fred?, she was the cute and innocent factor of the show, she was the light in the dark times!.

Now Cordy in Season Four on the other hand.....

Fred is a little bit annoying but still endearing. But I have to make a confession. One I've been holding in for a while now... and I know I'm alone here... but I really didn't care for Gunn. I know, I know, its wrong. He just kind of irritated me. He was such a nice guy and all but i think it was just I found J. August kinda one dimensional as an actor. I didnt buy J August as being one bit ghetto and it kinda ruined the character for me. Its weird how you can take random dislikings to characters for seemingly small issues so I totally get the Fred irritation!

Oh no Katie, your really hate Fred! I liked her...I'm not sure why but I did. 🙂 I really liked Fred with Gunn and I hated her with Wes. I think she was added because they needed to throw another girl in the mix, you know try and even out the male/female ratio.

I do see your points, she does act fairly childish, her accent can be annoying, and she is completely oblivious to things around her...guess I never really noticed these things the first time I watched Angel. I wonder if I will notice these things now.
