Does anyone miss old Wesley?

I for one didn't like the dark version of Wesley in S4 and S5 he became a little unlikable for me with his harsh and violent impulses. It would have been interesting if Wesley became a villain becoming very insecure and mentally unstable.
I miss the old Wesley that was awkward and clumsy, he was really funny in those days.

I thought Wes was one of, if not the, best developed characters of either series. He stays interesting and compelling the entire way, and the range that Alexis Denisoff shows is pretty outstanding.

I always found Wes a great part of the show, whether that was on Buffy or Angel. He's pure comedy relief at the beginning whose only real purpose is to serve as a vehicle to drive Giles' arc that season and to make Giles look cool (which he really succeeded at). After Doyle died on Angel I thought they were going to have a hell of a time replacing him, but Wes was fantastic (still love Doyle though...) in the dorky role before maturing a bit. When the series really hits its stride, Wes is right at the heart of it. His story with Angel, Holtz and Connor was just amazing, and all the later stuff between him and Fred was superb, even though he took on a much, much darker role.

Even with all the changes he underwent, Wes' chemistry with literally every other cast member was excellent. How many other actors or characters can you say that about? Whether he was the grinning goof ball the Council sent to piss everyone off or the dark, haunted shell he'd become in late S5, he always had an impact. One of my all time favorite characters.

Absolutely! I very much preferred the old Wesley. He was funny.
Not sure why they transformed him to one of those good looking, super cool guys. They already had Angel for that imho.

I can't really add much more to what Robb has said. I love Wesley's character somuch because of how he develops. Yes, I love the old Wesley for comical reasons, but the later Wesley is a much more well rounded character and I like him a lot.

The later Wesley had a girl chained up in his closet while he was doing Lilah. But part of the definition of being a star is, he will play good or he will play evil, but he will not play weak, which is how he started out.

At the end Wesley has not changed, as well as have not changed all the other characters. In the deep, were always the same people. Suffice it to say that is sufficient see his father and in the fifth season, Wes turns back into a shy and insecure guy.

In Season Four, he brings out the worst of himself because he is in pain and his relationship with Lilah, certainly does not help him to his feet. Only when he returns to Angel, he finds a kind of peace and regains its mission.

I loved both versions of Wesley. After Angel, in Ats, he is my favorite character.

When I watched the show, I watched Buffy all the way through before I attempted to watch Angel.

Before I watched Angel, I had pretty much forgotten about Wesley outside of the fact that he was the laughably incompetent watcher that had a role in some of my favorite episodes, and the only reason I remembered that is because I'd watched those episodes a lot.

After having watched Angel, he's one of the more developed characters across both series. Even though he's not one of my favorite characters, he's one of the more memorable ones.

So do I miss the old Wesley? No, not really. He only got more interesting over time, and why would I miss an uninteresting character?

Dorky Wesley is my favourite Wesley. I really did start to miss in him in the later seasons.

I prefer Wesley as the dorky yet strong character that he was in season 2. I found his charcter to be a bit unlikeable after he went all serious. Luckily Lorne was there to fill in Wesley's place as my favourite Angel character.
