Does BtVS seem dated?

It doesn't seem dated to me at all and the only things that date it are the giant computer monitors and no one has a cell phone. Otherwise I think it's still fresh feeling. Maybe Joss Whedon will pull a George Lucas and digitally alter the episodes to make the payphones all smartphones and giant monitors into laptops or tablets. Anything else date the series for you?

If we're talking about seasons 1-3, yes it seems dated to me. Maybe season 3 is less dated from the ones I said. But the later seasons don't seem dated at all. Season 7 is very modern, it's just like shows today, even if it was almost 10 years ago.

In my eyes BTVS is dated. Not because it shows too old things, it's just that the film-industry develope so fast. Buffy or Angel is unable to mess up with the fights and special-effects which you can see in let's say Underworld or James Bond. It has it's flair. It's wonderfull flair but not the action-level like films in ourdays. I think it is dated and one day there will be just a few guys watching Buffy. Unfortunately...

Don't be so sure. Star Trek is dated and it's been many year, still has many fans. Buffy is a good example of a show that won't be easily forgotten. It's been so many years, and look how many fans are still out there (like here on BB). It's true that many fans aren't into the show anymore or not as much as they used to be, but the fandom is still very much alive, and I believe it will still be many years from now, because it's not just another show that people like to watch, it's a cult.

I think it is dated. IMO it very much has a 90's tv show feel to it. Plus, the fashion, slang, technology and some story lines totally give away when it was created and aired.

I think that season 1-3 have a really 90 look and taste, seasons 4-5 are really 2000ish and 6-7 are very modern.

Yeah, seasons 1-3 are very dated. Seasons 4-7 feel modern to me though.

The clothes in the early seasons are definitely dated, and some of the dialogue from season 1. Season 1 feels very 90s because of its cheapness and general silliness. Once the show grew up a wee bit, you forget about how long it's been since it aired. The stories are timeless.

I dont think the shows 'dated' obviously it was made years ago so technology has changed, but the fashion back then is coming back now with the long skirts and crop tops etc.. And the issues (excluding the demon talk) are still relevant to today 🙂

Season 1 does, mainly because of that typical, cheesy, 90s suspense music. The other seasons don't. When I watch the later seasons of BtVS and AtS...sometimes I forget how old the shows are. It's weird.

Wasn't it semi-new back then? And Xander never seemed very computer savvy to me.

I won't say Buffy is dated. It's classic. Like Singing In The Rain! (bad comparison, I know XD )

It can't be dated because the life issues are the same today as they were back then. As for the computers and nobody having cellphones, it makes it more classic, to me. And kinda nostalgic... Like when I was in 6th grade and no kids had cellphones or ipod/mp3 back then... You know, when people where actually passing words during class? The good times...

I feel that it is dated, but in a classic 90s to early 2000s kind of way. I don't think it is bad that it is dated. The earlier 90s seasons always make me nostalgic about high school since it captured the way we dressed and talked as well as where we were with technology. The later seasons obviously feel more modern because they are but I think they also captured early 2000 culture and technology in a way that will one day seem dated...but again, to me, that is not a bad thing. It's like a time capsule of high school, college, and early adulthood for me and consequently, I will always enjoy watching it.

I love how [MENTION=11846]Vamp Jenny[/MENTION] put it. Now I don't think of it (the early seasons) as dated anymore, the word "classic" is a much better fit. When I watch the 2000s seasons, I don't really feal difference from the shows today, especially considering the fact that it was 10 years ago and more.

People today who start watching the show for the first time, because back then they were too young, they still relate to it. Even more than some shows they watch today.

I kind of feel like "dated" equates to not being as good a show anymore. For example, I used to love this show called "The Big Easy", so I have a bunch of episodes on VHS and recently I've been converting all my VHS stuff to DVD. So I decided to watch an episode to see if I wanted to transfer it, and it really didn't hold my attention at all anymore, it just wasn't interesting. I think that's what makes something dated - you can still watch Buffy and be engaged and interested in what's happening, so I don't think it is.

I don't think it seems dated, really. The most dated thing about it, when watching the earlier seasons, anyway, is the video quality. That right there makes it immediately obvious, like in your face, hit you with an anvil kind of way, obvious.
