I have just been reading an article, 'The Assassination of Cordelia Chase' and the author states matter of factly that when Barney was killed by Cordelia using that demon horn, that she took his powers. I remember a few years ago formulating this theory, as Cordelia does seem to become more attuned to the feelings of others after this event... so my real question is whether this was ever confirmed as definite. To my knowledge it is not in the show, but outside the show, ie. by Joss/writers, is it confirmed? Or is this just another article bending the truth for it's own devices?

I've never heard of this. I didn't even know it was a fan theory before this thread, so, I know I've never seen or heard anyone talking about it or mentioning it.

I do not know if it's a popular fan theory, it's just one that I personally came up with when I only owned Season One and Season 3 on dvd so I overly watched these seasons and cam up with a host of radical theories. This was the first time I ever heard the theory from anyone else though?

I understand the theory but I think that if it was the case then they would have explored it more on the show because... well why wouldn't they? So I don't think it's confirmed or even the intention of it because if it had been it would have been in the show more explicitly, it's not as if they've shied away from similar topics in other episodes.

No I don't think so. I think it was just her growing up. It's not like she changed over night. Just compare her in Buffy s1 and s3. It's not like she ever got really nice to anyone on Buffy, but you already see a huge difference in her in the beginning and by the time she leaves the show. Working for Angel and not being the popular cheerleader anymore, plus actually helping people and going through a lot is what made her change in my opinion. It's more like, the things she did and saw over the beginning of Angel helped to make her a better person. One part of this could also have been the visions: the actual pain and suffering that come with a vision probably can do wonders in forgetting your own spoiled self and make you more sympathetic towards the pain and suffering of others.

I would guess at the visions having more to do with her becoming more empathic to others than getting anything from barney
