Does it MATTER what Anya found in Dawns room?

NO ONE Calls Anya out, on invading Dawns room. (after she finds the stolen things from the magic box anyway)

Tearing it up, and then getting all offended and such.

She had no way of knowing that dawn had stolen from her UNTIL she went and ransacked her room

am I making sense?

Actually it wouldn't be. Dawn is a minor, meaning that her guardian has the right to go through her things if they judge it necessary. That doesn't mean Anya has the right to do it, it would have been Buffy's responsibility.

I think it matter in the sense that it wasn't like Anya was going through the things of a stranger accusing them of thievery. She was going through the things of a friend (or friend's sister). It's not very ethical, but it was done with reason also.
 
All I remember is Anya being a big cow this episode, freaking out at everyone and bullying Willow until Tara slaps her down. 😀

I mean, I know Dawn was stealing stuff, but I actually think somebody should've called Anya on her bullshit before hand.
Afterwards, everybody pretty much had the right reaction. (Wasn't her present to Buffy also stolen?)
 
Lots of things the scoobies do would not stand up in court. Much of what they do is illegal or at least of questionable morality. They break into places, they steal stuff, they harbor known fugatives including murderers such as Faith & Andrew. They do them because they feel they are serving a greater good. I doubt Anya snooping around a teen girl's room even comes close.

Also I think technically it would stand up in a court. The cops can't search your place without a warrant but a civilian can. So if I find something illegal in my roommates' underwear drawer I can report it to the police.
 
I think Anya was obviously suffering from some kind of episode, and she may have been wrong in searching Dawn's room, but her reaction was right.

I also think that what she said re Willow was ok, it was perfectly logical given the information that they had, obviously as more is revealed then it's not, but what if it had continued, two weeks in, would we disagree with her approach to Willow then?

Think they would have starved to death or would have been able to get food somehow.

Think Halfrek thought about, or cared about that detail?
 
Given what Anya found, I don't think it really crossed anyone's mind (or even mattered) whether her going through Dawn's room was right, or 'legal'. Also, regarding her overall behavior during the whole episode, wasn't she suffering from paranoia or something? I remember she was panicking and also acting quite delusional. She obviously wasn't in the right state of mind, which Xander was certainly aware of, and perhaps the others, too.

In general, laws about unlawful search and seizure only bind law enforcement agencies. The cops can't break into your house and search it, but if somebody else reports something -- whether that person is within their rights or not -- the authorities can get a warrant.

(In fact, I think there was a case a while back where a kiddie porn trafficker was turned in by a burglar.)

Immaterial in any case since the law was never involved, and Buffy probably decided there were more important things to deal with than yelling at Anya.
 
Oh is it safe to say the tone of the "How could you do this?" Was deiberately designed to illustrate how human Anyas become

no blazing threats to pull out the the girls fingernails

No "You shall die a thousand times a thousand deaths, each more horrible then the last"

Just that simple expression of hurt and betrayal.
 
I missed the bit about Anya ransacking the room, when did that happen?
 
As I recall, some of the stolen stuff had fallen on the ground. That made looking in her jewelry box sensible to me. And I also thought Anya felt betrayed more than angry.

I think she was claustrophobic and having panic attacks because she couldn't get out.

I wonder what would have happened if the house had caught on fire.
 
She was looking in the Jewelry box before she found out anything was stolen.... desperately looking for why they were trapped...
 
It may not have been her place to look but she had good reason to suspect it was because of Dawn. Dawn had been caught in Once More With Feeling when she had the talisman on from the Magic Box. Even though she covered it off & made an excuse for having it, I'm sure some people had their suspicions.
