Does Kennedy deserve the hate?

When was she bratty and overbearing? If anything from what I saw she seemed eager to train while everyone else was crying and complaining.

I felt like she was bratty and overbearing in the way that she tried to overstep her bounds with Buffy, talking over her and trying to assert her own plans when she wasn't asked to lead anyone. Some may not have seen that as a negative thing but I did.

O0o yes I understand what your saying. She tried to do that with Faith as well in the basement when she was in charge but she put her in her place 😎

Kendra371, I think the big problem, and the Buffy series as a whole encountered this several times, is that people were really invested in Tara, and immediately rejected the new person in the relationship. I know that happened a bit with me with Tara after Oz, and Riley after Angel.

I think Kennedy is a mostly fine character, really. She gets a bit annoying at times, mostly later in the season but for most of S7, she's fine.

Kennedy was the rebound girl plain and simple that relationship was never going to last. It simply dint work. Like Buffy and Scott

Also I dont care what people say Willow and Tara's relationship was right it felt right looked right on screen and felt like the most real relationship that series ever had.

Funny, there were a few relationships I thought appeared more natural than Willow and Tara. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it or anything, but I always felt like Alyson Hannigan was trying to force it a bit in the way her acting came across. Clearly I'm in the minority there though. I always felt like her and Oz had more flow to it.

Willow was just a shell of herself after the death of Tara and her subsequent "Dark Willow" episodes and rehab in England. It would take someone forceful like Kennedy to break through the shell and let Willow feel some connection again. So it might not be the permanent relationship she was hoping Oz and Tara would be - a rebound romance is sometimes the quickest way back to a reasonable level of satisfaction with life.

Kennedy was the only one who looked like she was ready to assume the tasks of a slayer with the sort of enthusiasm Faith had for the job (but Buffy did not). Amanda and Vi were adequate but the rest of them looked like a bunch of crybabies who had no potential to be a Potential, let alone a slayer.

I'll repeat myself. Kennedy isn't perfect, she got some cringeworthy moments but in my eyes she gets way too much hate/dislike coming her way. She may have been a rebound but lets not forget how much an impact she had on Willow. She hadn't been near the person she was (and needed to be) at the end of the show if it wasn't for Kennedy.

I dont hate her she never hurt Willow and thats points in the plus collum for her.
But I knew from the start that they would not last.

I'm not a fan of her because of her attitude towards Buffy. I think to be new to the group and act like you know best is a big mistake - it's not going to earn you any respect and that's a huge part of my problem with her. While I accept the fact that she's at least willing to be trained and doesn't jump at everything that goes bump in the night, she can't pretend like she knows what it's like to be Buffy or Faith for that matter. No one put her in charge so I'm glad Faith put her in her place; she's a potential.
I appreciate the fact that Willow needed to move on from Tara but it's just unfortunate it had to be with someone who is the exact opposite of her. I would have loved to see the return of Oz in season 7 and for them to rekindle their romance - but that may have tarnished Tara's memory as well.
In summary; Kennedy is a bratty know-it-all who comes off way too strong in many situations and I just don't appreciate that in a person.

Well done.
I don't think she necessarily 'deserves' it but, I think the majority of people that hate Kennedy is because she got with Willow and people knew that willow could never have a relationship like she did with Tara, they were perfect for each other. I just think people didn't like to see willow without Tara or obviously Oz, but we were only introduced to Tara in season 4. I also think people hate her because of how she always disagrees with Buffy and I just think to myself 'who's been doing this job longer, Kennedy?' And I wish Buffy said that to her in the show!

She annoys me cause she leaps at Willow and pushes her into loving her, she is always arguing with Buffy which really annoys as Buffy is letting you live in her house and she is in charge and when the potentials are training Kennedy is the boss and thinks she's the strongest which she isn't, if there were more seasons and her and Willow had time to get know each other first then grow their relationship and also had her strength grow but it was way to rushed that's why I don't like her.

I absolutely dislike Kennedy. Not so much because she was Willow's rebound but more for her personality and rudeness/treatment of Bufffy. Although I do agree that she was the most competent and battle ready of Potentials, in fact (considering the potentials we were privy too), Ive always thought that she would have been the next Slayer if the natural line of progression had continued.

Right after Satsu I'd say. In the comics two major, potentially apocalyptic events take place first in Japan and then in New York, Kennedy's home town.

good theory!
I like Kennedy a lot! And Tara is my favorite character so it is possible to like both. Sure Kennedy is a huge brat, she can be annoying and has a bit of a superiority complex, but she's not boring! She's the first character on Buffy that is like that and she portrays that rich girl mentality very well! I actually have a lot of friends that are like her, want/get type mentality.

She also didn't exactly push Willow to love her, it wasn't even ever really said that they loved each other (which I don't really think they did). It was more of a rebound for Willow (which she needed sooner or later, in that case it was sooner) and for Kennedy, well Willow was likeable and the sex was probably great. Their relationship was convenient and comfortable at the time and I think it was a good idea for them to date, even if it was just to take their minds off of the upcoming end of the world.

It is no surprise that in season 8 they broke up, but I'm really glad they kept Kennedy, I think she is a great asset to the team, even if it's only for her authority, I like that she challenges Buffy

Plus, well, Kennedy is hot lol

I never liked Kennedy as a character and it's mostly because I couldn't stand her attitude and her know it all personality. I also hated how she basically tricked Willow into going out with her and then bam! all of a sudden they're girlfriends. It felt forced and unnatural and even though I wasn't even a Willow/Tara shipper it felt way too soon for Willow to be moving on with someone else. Especially someone like Kennedy who was so brash and bratty. I just didn't see the appeal. The relationship came out of nowhere to me and I just didn't buy it nor did I want to see Willow with someone else so soon after Tara, especially Kennedy. After all she tried to end the world because Tara died and I'm to believe a few months later she's all moved on and ready to be with someone else? Nope. Just didn't like it or Kennedy as a character.

I think they made it pretty clear in The Killer in Me that Willow wasn't really moving on, the way I see it, Kennedy was more of a fling that actually helped ground Willow, she was kind of what you would call a rebound. I understand your point of view though, that's how most people see it.

As annoying as her attitude is, I think Kennedy did Willow a lot of good, she didn't make her forget Tara, but she offered a moral support that the others couldn't give Willow at the time. I know a few people in real life that lost people that they loved, and I know a few of them did go on to date not too long after. In some people, they need that to move on, others wait years. So I was ok with Willow dating someone new, and let's face it, the relationship was never really serious.

She was completely different from Tara in every way. Tara was likeable, shy and sensitive, hence Kennedy wasn't. That was the intention. It worked perfectly.

I never had the slightest problem with Kennedy. She wasn't Tara (who I loved), but so what? If they had brought in someone to try and be like Tara was, the effect would have been even worse. It was important to show Willow moving on before the series ended. It didn't have to be someone she would spend the rest of her life with (I never thought of Kennedy in that way), that wasn't the point. She was just there to plant the idea that there was life for Willow after Tara. And by making her a character so completely different to Tara, made her all the more interesting. I loved Tara, but don't want to see a faded photocopy of her.

As a character she is rude and annoying, but that is totally the point, so I enjoy her character for achieving what she was supposed to do. She really grinds my gears at times but so does every character in Buffy at one point or another. I don't hate them. I don't hate Kennedy.
