Okay, we have Angel Season 6 about to be released, and it is reported to start up just about where Season 5 began, which makes it actually at least several months or a year BEFORE Buffy Season 8 takes place. My question is:

IN YOUR OPINION---Does Buffy know at the time of Season 8 about the events that Angel brought about in LA and, along with that, that Spike is back?

I'm a bit confused about the timing thing..but I don't think Buffy knows that Spike is alive, or that him and Angel have been
sucked into hell with LA
. If she knew she'd be trying to help, plus I think Joss wants to write the moment when she finds out herself.. rather then it being something which happens off screen.. or uh off-comic.

Buffy didn't know Spike was alive. She was too busy slaying her way through Europe with the Slayer girls. I am also confused about the timing thing. I think that they needed to live their own separate lives. Plus, if Angel and Buffy knew what each other had been doing (Angel running Wolfram & Hart, Buffy sleeping with Spike and being a counselor at school), they'd kick each other's butts. Or at least Buffy would have tried to kick Angel around a bit for being CEO of the most evil law firm in the world.

The Time Thing...

If I understand the relative time stream of the two series, a true Buffy Season 8 would have occurred at the same time as Angel Season 5, so in order to avoid that, Joss rejoined Buffy & Company at least several months, more likely a year or more, AFTER Season 7 finished (so that it is technically Season 9 with the true Season 8 not being shown either on tv of in comic book form).

Since Angel Season 5 began almost immediately after the end of Buffy Season 7 (19 days after the battle at the Hellmouth) Angel's "Let's so to work" scene would take place in that period between Buffy Seasons 7 and 8, meaning, at least to my way of thinking, that the events of Angel Season 6 are in the past when Buffy Season 8 takes place (complicated enough for you yet?)

If the above is true, then Buffy could very well know at least SOME of what happened in LA, and there should be some mention of it at some time. Right?

(If you think the above is complicated, let me explain the time line of the original "Planet of the Apes" movies sometime. I did a paper on that one in college.

Oh damn I thought this was about
Faith dying! is it just me or is that a possibility we haven't discussed
but anyway back on topic, I think she knows, I mean Andrew must know, so I guess he's told Buffy or some gossipy potential. BTW Angel knows about Buffy and Spike (Chosen) I hope future issues can touch on this and clear things up.

Sounds about right. Now...time moves more quickly in Buffyverse hell dimensions, right? Wonder if Lynch/Joss are sticking with that sort of scenario. Season 6 could take years in 'hell' and yet it could all have been resolved within a few days (minutes?) as far as the Scoobs are concerned.

Also, are we talking literally sucked into hell? what's occupying the space formerly known as LA? A smoldering crater? Some fake, doppelganger LA?

Sounds to me as though the whole WR & H thing was taken to far.
So with a new angel S5 Buffy's world and Angel's world can get together, in that or the next season, maybe as The New Angel Investigations ?, but then again that could be me being biased.

I saw on IDW that it is the 21 of november now - and no, it doesen't take that long to get to Australia - two days max.

but back to the topic at hand: Does Buffy Know that Spike is alive?
I would think that yes, she does. Andrew knows so how long would he keep such a juicy bit of information quiet? Spike told Andrew (in damage) that he "would take care of it" (telling buffy, that is) and it is in keeping with Spike's character that he would follow through with this - "cos a man's gotta try, gotta do what he can". My theory is that Spike told Buffy that he was alive just after Cordelia died and that he's made a decision to stay in LA because of Angel's predicament. Call me crazy but i think that in The Girl In Question Spile actually knows it's not Buffy: he displays no inclination to go to Rome when Angel tries to send him despite knowing that this is where 'buffy' is, he doesen't want to go until Angel says that he is going to Rome. I know most would put this down to the compedative nature of Spike and Angel but i think it's Spike trying to stop Angel from inadvertantly revealing the truth about the multiple 'Buffies'. just a theory and yes, i've given this topic way too much thought.

You can NEVER give Buffy too much thought, especilly with Spike included.
You Just Might Have Something There...

That would also explain why Spike really slugged Angel in the bar. A fighter with Spike's skill and experience doesn't just punch blindly like that. He makes sure of his target before striking.

I'm still so confused. So this new Angel comic is taking place before or after NFA? And is this comic official/cannon?

Andrew knows that Spike is alive? That sort of thing is easy to forget. Joss did forget that Warren had died.

the new comic (After the Fall) takes place AFTER Not Fade Away. Is it Canon? - some people argue that it is, others that it is not. I am willing to accept it as cannon because Joss Whedon has been involved in developing the story even though he's not acctually writing it himself. He has apparently detailed to Brian Lynch what they had originally been planning for season six on tv and adapted the new book from that with a few tweaks here and there. It has also been written to keep unity with the Buffy season eight so that when the timelines for both stories eventually meet there will be no horrendus inconsistencies.

that is true but i would hope that Spike and Andrew get a little more thought and consideration than Warren! besides, i don't think Joss really forgot that Warren died, he just didn't want to have to come up with a really convoluted explaination as to how warren could be both alive and the first during season seven and justify the fact that he needed warren to be the one to be torturing Willow because who else could have forefilled that role effectively with an understandable lust for revenge. Some call it retcon, i call it narrative licence.

If the Initative/Army or whatever it is are searching for Buffy as a terror suspect for what happened in Sunnydale, are they the lobbing the blame for the sudden lack of L.A. on her too?? if thats true then it would mean Buffy knows about what happened, to L.A. at least, but that makes even less sense cuz I can't see Buffy knowing what happened and NOT trying to help or find Angel and Spike. Although time moving quicker in hell would maybe explain that?
Oh God this is too much maths!!

I haven't read much about Angel: After the Fall, but I think if LA is hell the world is going to know about it.

yeah I knda have to agree with you about that..so that begs the question...why hasn't it been mentioned in season 8 yet??
