Does Size Matter?

I noticed that in the New Years Resolution thread that alot of the members here, mostly the girls, listed losing weight as one of their aims for the year, myself included. It got me to wondering, and not for the first time whether society puts too much pressure on people to have the 'body perfect'. This applies not only to women, who are expected to be slim but to men who it seems these days are expected to have that 'six pack' that mostly eludes the average man.

Is it really that important to you what size you or those you are attracted to are? Does it effect how you view a person? Or do you look beyond the exterior to the person inside?

Good comments Cordelia. It's really bizarre, when it comes to myself and body image, I am really, REALLY hard on myself. But when it comes to other people, I don't really notice.

For instance, I can notice a girl who is not that perfect size 2 etc and I will think she's beautiful, has nice hair, dresses well etc.

But I beat myself up mentally if I'm not a size 2. Same thing for men. When I was dating, it didn't matter what size/how fit etc. the guy was. Yes I did notice certain physical traits such as eyes, smile, butt 🙂 however I didn't expect them to be 'perfect' (as in what I thought perfect should be).

Well I'm rambling now..hehe.

I love your signature BTW, it's ADORABLE! 🙂

Good point Cordelia
sometimes I get down on myself for not being perfect, but sometimes I'm happy with myself and proud to be the way I am,no ones meant to look the same anyway.

me i say looks or size or race or sex none of that matters its what is on the inside that counts now if only more people thought that way ya know and even age dont matter to a point like say 10 or so years older not that bad now if your like 44 and want to get with a 17 year old now thats just wrong...

I tend to think size doesn't matter when it comes to other people, their personality is what shines through to me. Yet when it comes to myself i'm very critical, about my looks. Its probably the reason i'm so sarcastic, because i'm not comfortable with the way I am, and sometimes don't understand why people like me. Which yes I know sounds strange but these are the things that go through my head at times.

Its good to know people arnt too shallow tho, loads of people I know(who arnt my friends) are obsessed with looks and if you dont look great, then your pathetic to them.

I don't really think it matters when I look at other people but I just have to lose some weight..

I'm thin, in fact I'm underweight (and I'm not trying to rub that in or anything like that) but my weight worries me. I don't diet or anything, but for some reason I've lost alot of weight. I don't like my figure, I did before I lost my weight. In fact I was one of the lucky people who didn't bother about it at all.

I have a friend who is one of those annoying people who has a perfect figure and thinks she still needs to loose weight. She is very self absorbed, she takes a lot on face value and no matter how many times you try and tell her she looks fine she has convinced herself that she doesn't.

I'm a bit like Faith. I don't care about other people's figures but I'm a bit uncomfortable with mine. I even sometimes don't understand why people like me....see Faith I'm not just copying the lads you like...but your train of thourght aswell...lol...😉

You could be the English version of me 😀

yep...and I'll suceed..I think that most girls are a bit paranoid bout their weight(me included)

I don't care what anyone looks like. I usually look at what type of a person they are. I've dated unattractive people before. (incase Stephanie reads this: remember Brittany? *scary music*) I can't stand the skinny people where you can see all their bones and stuff like that, but being thin or chubby doesn't matter to me. As long as the perosn is happy with themselves.

Was reading in the paper today that only 13% of 14 year old girls are happy with their bodies. Thats rediculous, they look fine most of them (apparently I've seen them all). I think people obsess too much, and the amount of excercise videos, diets and celebrity workouts that are thrown at us don't help.

While I would like a six pack im not gonna give up eating junk food and go running every day for it. Im skinny, I know that but I dont care. I don't want to be big and muscly, I want to be happy.

Good for you!As long as your happy thats all that matters isnt it?Yeah I saw that thing in the paper too,and I saw the survey in the Bliss magazine,I think it's wrong that there's so much pressure to look good,I have two friends who started to starve themselves because they felt they had to look brilliant, because loads of other people did,and because the boys they liked didnt like them back,it was horrible to see them suffering over their image..eventually me and me best friend got so worried we went to a teacher about it..it got sorted out thankfully, but it shows how much pressure can be put on people.

LoL. I've been trying to answer this for awhile now. I keep on changing my mind. I want to give an honest answer, but I'm not even sure what that is.

I mean, on one hand, I would never want to date someone who thought I was ugly, and so I'd never want to date someone I didn't think is attractive, because I would think they deserve more than that. They deserve to find someone who does think they are attractive.

On the other hand, being in love with someone makes them the most attractive person in the world to me (I'm not the type of guy to stray). So I can't even say for sure that in my own mind the physical traits are really important.

But one thing is for sure, my eye is certainly caught by women who are attractive to me even before I get to know them. But that's okay, because I have no problem getting to know someone anyway, even if they aren't attractive, so you never know if something would develop afterwards. I have a pretty open mind, and I don't deny my own heart. Does that make any sense?

I'm sorry if I seem a little shallow in anything I've said. I'm just trying to be honest, which is more important to me ultimately.

LoL. A lot of my friends are not like me, actually, none of my guy friends are. Except Nick. But after lunch today I wouldn't trust you with him because I'd fear he'd tell you our conversations that are not appropriet for anyone under the age of 18.

Aren't there diseases or disorders that can make people gain weight and stuff like that? So, maybe it's not the persons fault that they are over weight.
