Does he have developed the compassion for his race and "friends"? Or it's just the William Poet inside him romanticizing and imagining the whole "us vamps vs you humans" thing?

Sure! Jonathan says vamps are solitary creatures, but chipped Spike gazes at the gang of vamps at their Thanksgiving dinner as at paradise lost.

And it's not just him. Harm and the other vamps seem betrayed when asking him why exactly he is helping humans and killing their kind.

I think post-chip Spike doesn't see anything wrong with killing vampires or demons. It's fun. See 'Real Me.' where he up and attacks Harmony's gang of vamps for the hell of it. Cuz its fun!

So socialising with fellow demons is okay but Spike likes violence more. Gotta respect that.

Apparently, Jonathan didn't have nearly as much experience with vampires as he did with magic bones, because we have seen several vampire groups, including the Master and his minions, Darla, Angelus, Spike, and Dru, the group of vampire hookers and their pimp who Riley was doing regular business with, Harmony and her band, the vampire group that Buffy encountered when starting college, and the group that freshly chipped Spike was watching through a window as an obvious fledgling was being taught to feed properly, as well as several "family" groups on "Angel."
