I think it's believable in the first movie because they were late and they had to hurry or they won't catch the plane. The mother counted the children in the car, and because there were a lot of them, she counted one of them twice.

However, I don't think it'll happen to me - really hope it won't - because I'm obsessed about making sure we didn't forget anything let alone my own children. Even if we were a large family traveling together. I'd make sure my own children are with me.

I know its family entertainment, but do you believe that the set up about the Parents going on holiday and leaving their child at home and then only noticing when on the plane could actually happen. Its made a bit more credible by the fact that its a massive family and they are all going and there's a million things to do, but I still don't quite buy it.

As someone who has worked as a nanny for years with several families, I can tell you without a doubt that this IS possible. Although in reality they would have noticed at the boarding gate, not once on the plane taking off. (hello one [expensive] extra boarding ticket!) Lots of people are forgetful (out of sight out of mind) and add in the stress of traveling at a busy time with tons of people it would be easy to leave someone behind. That might be one of the more realistic parts of that movie lol. 🙂

Reading this thread makes me want to go watch Home Alone again. Such a fun movie.

I once almost left my son on the side of the street. I told him to get in the car, I then put my baby seat in, spent the 3/4 minutes of ridiculous seat belt fastening that accompanied said baby seat. Next, I got in the car and began to do a 3 point turn to get out of a cul-de-sac when I heard a very loud scream from my son who hadn't been able to get in the car because his door was locked. I have never felt so guilty in my life, and consider myself to be a good parent, but I can see how similar oversights might be made.
