do you think the town of Sunnydale knows about the existence of demons, vampires and all things supernatural yet?
or are they all completely stupid?
they would have to figure it out after the constant apocolypses, the whole town going silent, demons everywhere, everyone dying, and the whole freaking town singing!
or do they just choose to ignore it?

i guess the same goes for LA, as there seems to be about the same amount of demons there too
what do you think?

its a only believing what you want state of affairs.rationalizing their memories.they explain it briefly in s1

Most of the townspeople know. They just don't talk about it. For instance, Principle Snyder always played ignorant when a supernatural event took place. Then when the cops would show up, he'd secretly ask to keep the news completely confidential and that there's now way it could go out.

They know about the demons but they prefer to ignore it and not talk about it

but why do the scoobies still try and cover it up sometimes?
"he didn't say vampire, he said man on a wire"

in that episode where the Troika froze the security guard Warren was all like "he won't tell them because saying some guys froze me would make him sound crazy"

They have to know...The whole Mayor attacking Graduation, The Gentlemen floating around town, the whole Vampire Gang riding their motorcycles around town destroying everything....just to name a few....the town has to know. Even at the Prom, Jonathon gave Buffy the class Protector Award for saving them a lot. Everyone knew that weird creapy things happen in their town, but I think they are just to scared and freaked out to talk about it!

Also, when they were givin out the award jonathan said that a lot of weird stuff happens that buffy stops. In the crowd some people shout out such things as "Vampires!" or"demon Dogs!". I think some people want to believe that nothing is out of the ordinary. Some don't want o believe the fact that there issuch things that are suprnatural.

The town knows but they decide to dismiss it and pretend to on with their "normal" lives.

well if i lived in sunnydale, i think i would know that something was afoot! all those weird deaths and missing people something would definetly be wrong

i would to i mean, the police never arrest someone people in sunnydale never murder people i don't mean like vamps or demons i mean people who are alive and normal, they don't have any people who steel or kill people.

i would be wondering what was going if people you knew kept dying strangely or going missing, and there are a lot of missing people in sunnydale.

Of course, to parphase Van Helsing, "the vampire's greatest weapon is that nobody believes that he exists." Or as Verbal in The Usual Suspects says, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." Or as Dawn would say "If this town wasn't so lame everyone would completely know what she does. And then I bet they wouldn't even be that impressed, because like, killing things with wood? Oh, scary vampires, they die from a splinter." Or as Mulder would probably say, "I want to believe."

I have been wondering about this. And your right. They just have to know. If they didn't, Sunnydale would have a very stupid population.

Yeah my take is that they do know at least some of what's going on.

I just watched "School Hard" last night. It's the one from season 2 when there is a school parent night, and when spike comes to town. At the end, the principal is talkingg to the police and they talk about what kind of story they will tell the town.

I must admit that I love the show, but if 1/10 of what happened on the show happened in my town, I'd move!

Of course, have we considered the possibility that the people know, but they just don't care? I mean, we keep on hearing stories about people just don't want to be involved or "Hey, If I call the police, that means I have to go downtown and fill out a statement...it's too much a burden...etc..."

The power of denial in some people is truly astounding. They hear what they want to hear, see what they want to see, know what they want to know....

(Of course, I've never met anyone who has encountered a demon before. Well, I don't *think* I have... 🙂

I think the town knows but choose to let buffy and the gang handle all that. Did you ever notice all these crazy demons, vampires, etc. seem to like living in California???

Well, Sunnydale is the location of the Hellmouth, so all the evil things are drawn to it automatically.
