Doll Beds

I don't recall it ever being mentioned but to me they are like graves. Maybe the symbolism is that everynight they put who they were that day to rest and every morning they are risen new.

good question. I would think it'd be easier to lock them in. Also, for many people enclosed spaces are comfortable on a subconsious level, so maybe its like some maturnal way to make the dolls feel safe

No explanation is given I guess its just part of the whole design of the Dollhouse to be modern and sleek. Its almost like a prison keeping them there and hiding them. Its like when Ballard broke in he had to unlock the chambers to find Caroline. Plus with the smokey glass doors it keeps there identities hidden as well. Either way I think its just a weird modern feature to make the Dollhouse look modern and different. 😀

I think it was explained in episode 11? Alpha said he designed them to collect all the methane and carbon dioxide while they slept to provide energy for the dollhouse. Explains why they are enclosed.

They just reminded me of the chamber that Mick StJohn slept in on "Moonlight," (which, as I recall, wasn't ever actually explained either). It did make an impressive shot from above, though, the way that they were arranged like the spokes of a wheel.

What people? Agoraphobics? I tend to (politely) disagree.

I may alter that by saying that children (and the childlike Actives) are fond of small spaces (e.g. hide and go seek, fun with large cardboard boxes, that kinda stuff).

Personally I just think Joss was going for a neato visual and found a way to justify it in the show later. 😀

What I was going to say.

Plus, they add a level of control over the Dolls while they sleep. They can't get out on their own, light and sound seems to be blocked out, they can up the carbon dioxide to make them stay asleep longer if they need to (as Alpha did in Ep 11), etc.
