Dollhouse cancelled

I'm a bit sad, but i'll get over it. Dollhouse has had some really good eps, but most of them...well...didn't live up to my hopes for a Joss show. Then again his shows always have really slow starts. I do hope that maybe he'll do a comic.

Also, I agree with those who say FOX is not to blame. They gave a really risky show a big chance. I think Joss should try doing a HBO or showtime show, he would have more of the freedom he complains networks don't give him.
 
As long as they will show all 13 episodes of season 2 I'll survive. Which I think they promised to do already a few weeks ago.
If cancelling it now means that they will be able to do a proper ending it's even a good call, I guess.

I'm very sad though, it's a good show that I looked forward to each week. Will miss it.

Even if I was/am sad about the news I can't say that I'm angry at FOX. Sometimes shows get cancelled way too fast before given the chance to get viewers but that wasn't the case with Dollhouse. It always suck when shows you like get cancelled but shows you think are stupid or bad seems to go on forever. But for that you have to blame the viewers not the company. Lots of viewers = show continues. Nothing more to it. In my mind the show had great potential but didn't reach it often enough.

More stating an opinion. You think Smallville is mediocre at best but obviously there are a lot of people disagreeing considering the popularity of the show. I'd rather see Dollhouse continue while I wouldn't care if 95% of what's on tv would be cancelled as long as it's what I'm not watching. Sadly they can't go by just me. But wouldn't it be great if they did? 😉 The fact is that Dollhouse didn't do what it had to do. I'm sure there wouldn't be any trouble at all finding people that think Dollhouse is mediocre at best. It's all a matter of opinion.
 
Well, it's not really a surprise as much as a huge disappointment 🙁

In a way it sucks to be a geek. You do appreciate all these awesome TV shows A LOT, but because the majority of the population isn't that much into those kind of shows, you see a lot of them get cancelled really fast 🙁

But well, life goes on, at least we'll get a proper ending and won't be left hanging, and there's always comics. And fanfiction.
 
Guys, is it really fair to be so mad at Fox?

As some other people have already pointed out: they did give the show a second chance despite lousy ratings in the first season (and if the Joss Whedon name couldn't bring in lots of viewers, chances are nothing could) when most shows are cancelled after barely any time. Also, they've promised they are going to show all the episodes when most cancellations lead to being ripped off the air. Now, if they go back on that promise I'll totally join in the hating.

If you want to be angry with someone I'd say go with the millions of people who think that reality TV is a quality form of storytelling or the ones who think all SciFi shows are 'too geeky' for them.

And remember: He's found ways to continue all his other shows in some form, surely he'll do the same for Dollhouse even if it takes a couple years. I don't really care if it's not in TV form, as long as I get more of the characters I've come to be attached to.

Not everyone is angry at Fox, I think most people are just disappointed. I can only speak for myself but I was so angry when I found out about this last night I wasn't really thinking about it logically and wondering where the blame was to fall, I was just very much peeved. Still am. Of course everyone had every right to be angry, upset and disappointed last night and FOX was the biggest target to hit with the blame I guess.

I'd actually prefer Joss to just wrap the series up nicely and not carry it on in any other format like comics or anything.
 
Eliza confirmed on twitter that it's really over. This bites. I heard about it this morning and refused point blank to believe it, but I guess it's true. I think the world is against Joss and his fanbase. I mean, one season of Firefly and then Dollhouse cancelled so soon, too? I'm really not happy about this, Dollhouse was is awesome.
 
I hate this.... Joss is a brilliant screenwriter with a lot of imagination but he always has his shows blown out in favour of crap reality TV shows. When they do pick him up for something they give him the death-slot on friday nights. There are no words for how I feel right now. When will they learn?

Even the biggest Dollhouse fans knew this day was coming: Dollhouse has been sent to the big TV scrapyard in the sky, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The program has been on the brink of cancellation for most of its televised life, and because of pitiful ratings, it wasn't a question of "if," but a question of "when."

For those of you excited to see how the whole show shakes out, industry insiders say all episodes will still air, with the final episode serving as a finale to tie up loose ends.

But how did a show by a cult-fave producer (Joss Whedon) that starred a sexy actress (Eliza Dushku) and had the support of powerhouse network fail? Let's take a hasty look, shall we? (We'll ignore the obvious: Dollhouse's Friday-night time slot and it's pairing with Brothers.)

1. The standalone-versus-mythology mix was off-kilter: Aside from all the show's problems, there was a solid foundation to build on"”but Dollhouse only added to it sparingly, spending too much time on the periphery. We got a peek at the show's potential in the unaired-but-awesome episode "Epitaph One," and Season Two had sprinkles of what the show should have been focusing on: Echo (Eliza Dushku) absorbing her imprinted personalities and using them to figure out how far the Dollhouse goes, while kicking the asses of anyone who got in her way. But all too often, viewers had to wade through 35 minutes of generic standalone story before getting a nugget of the overall arc, and frankly, TV is too competitive and our attention spans are too short to make this tolerable.

2. The story started out too slow: Joss, at the behest of Fox, waited too long to get down to the nitty gritty. By that time (five episodes into the first season) most had already"”and justifiably so"”given up on the program. A simple tease of the apocalypse from "Epitaph One" early in the show's run (I'm thinking pilot episode) would have given it more legs. You have to build momentum right from the start these days. Ironically, a show that was thematically about identity actually lacked identity.

3. Dollhouse lacked a strong protagonist: Let's face it: Echo was too damn boring for too damn long. Yeah, we know the Actives are supposed to be emotionless, but no one wants to root for someone just because they look good in an American Apparel tank top. How different would the show's reception have been if we'd seen a glimpse of the ass-kicking Echo to come? Joss wouldn't have given anything away if he'd revealed her as a strong heroine by showing us peeks at the future (duh, of course she was going to head in that direction), and viewers would've had something and someone to look forward to. As those cheesy bumper stickers say: It's the journey, not the destination!

4. The show took itself too seriously: Joss' strength is his wry wit. Yet the short Web project Dr. Horrible had a thousand times more of it than hours and hours of Dollhouse. Maybe Joss was trying to go in a different direction and be more serious, but the show could really have benefited from a few chuckles.

5. Hype: This isn't anyone but old Father Internet's fault, but Dollhouse was almost doomed to fail from the outset, thanks to super-heightened expectations. Now with Dollhouse out of the way, we can focus all our attention on buzzing about Cabin in the Woods!

Wow i actually agree with most of that >

Sad but true, although i do love it, ( mainly because Eliza is in it, and c'mon it's Joss)
The thing that i didn't like about it was their characters weren't as Lovable as everything else he had done,
(obviously that's the whole point of their personality's changing everyday)and so on,

( The characters are good, although i don't think they live up to the same expectations as Buffy/angel and so on.)

If that made any sense at all!!

It's true,

i have this weird way of watching t.v series, i can't enjoy watching them on normal T.v, i have to either watch them on dvd or on my laptop, haha yes i am weird (sw)
 
my boyfriend texted me while i was at work yesterday about this. i thought he was being cruel (he pretty much hates anything Whedon does) but then when i found out it was true... aaagh! I kept telling all my co-workers who didn't really seem to care. but that's ok lol. I'm really upset. Oh well, guess I'll buy season 2 when it comes out and it'll be like firefly... everytime i watch all of it ill get super pissed after the last episode that nothing comes after.
 
I pretty much agree with the article BEG posted. I really wasn't expecting a 3rd season.

Also is that Alexis in the picture for that article?

Agreed. I'm pretty bummed out today, as well. What bad news for us Whedon fans.
