Someone on the radio said that, but an ABC article said this:
"Whedon also addressed his plans. "I'm off to pursue internet ventures/binge drinking," he wrote. "Possibly that relaxation thing I've read so much about. By the time the last episode airs, you'll know what my next project is. But for now there's a lot of work still to be done, and disappointment to bear."

I think he just means that it still has episodes left. When he says "Amazing what can happen when you have the finish line in sight." I think he just means Joss is cooking up an insane finale for us. hopefully. or not hopefully if he does mean the show can be saved. Which I doubt.

A great shame, it could have been great. Just watched Epitaph One and thought it was brilliant.

Felicia Day, hooray! Vi my second favourite potential after Amanda. The male survivor at the end really reminds me of Patrick Swayze/Corey Feldman for some reason. What a shocker when the little girl turns out to be evil. Great line too "Oh great, I get to go through puberty again!". The little band of misfits on the run is a theme Joss returns to time and again in Angel, Buffy, Firefly and Alien 4.

Great acting from Amy Acker as a ghostlike Whiskey. I must say I always thought that she killed all the reavers...sorry butchers and died herself. It wasn't until I heard the commentary I considered the alternative, that she was knocking them out and would implant Caroline's imprint in them creating an army of guides to take people to safehaven (a very Logan's Run/I am legend idea). So Alpha is the saviour of the human race? Who'd have thought?(like Spike!) Also some great acting from Reed Diamond (so you CAN come back from the attic?), from Topher driven mad by guilt (season 5 Wes?) and Adele, struggling to keep everything together.

The deleted scenes give us a better idea of how Alpha escaped and what happened to bounty hunter Sierra and November in that ep. Also to judge by the clips Caroline's personality eventually overcomes her implant. And one character finally says what we've all been thinking, that the Dollhouse is basically one big brothel. Some very Battlestar Galactica touches too, the picture wall especially. Also post-Apocalyptic LA which was supposed to be what Angel season 6 was all about.

Goes without saying that if they'd made the rest of the series as good as this one it would have been more of a success. But at least it lasted longer than Firefly. So, did Caroline and co make it to safehaven? Will the Epitaph 1 characters get there? Did Caroline kill Adele? (I say no). What happened to Sierra, Mellie/November? Joss has 2 eps with which to round things up which is plenty of time for him.

I know this shouldn't come as a surprise, but it's still REALLY REALLY sucky. I'm really really sad. I had hope it'd pull through, I guess that hope was pretty naive on my part. This just sucks.

I'm hoping that Fox still airs the episodes in December.

I am upset about it, I hate Fox so much. I like Dollhouse, but after the first episode of the new season, the episodes weren't that good, which was when people started watching it. But the Sierra episode was good, and right when it was starting to get good, it got cancelled!

I completely agree. We dvr dollhouse and the Sierra episode was so great it has been on my dvr ever since. My boyfriend and I have watched the episode like ten times. Loves it.

There is an interview with Tony Head in this week's Radio Times, which may or may not be correct with regard to Dollhouse's cancellation...if it's not out of date news from Tony it may be good news. I can't link 'cos it's not online but here's the relevant part -

Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse...Interestingly, it's been recommissioned due to public demand online and sales of the boxed set. Fox was going to cancel it, which shows the changing trend in TV: how viewing figures have less to do with the success of a show.

Perhaps they sold enough DVDs/BDs in that time to convince the execs to keep the show, but that 's only about 2.5 months. Do they get numbers that quick? Anyway I still have a feeling that that quote isn't new.

I still don't understand why Joss accepted a Friday night FOX time slot. The show would've done better on SyFy, USA or FX...

I understand why people were pissed off about Firefly's treatment as they didn't even air the episodes in the correct order, but Dollhouse was given a pretty fair chance I think. Despite low ratings and a mediocre critical reception, it got a second season and a second chance. If they were losing money on the show, I think it's not surprising that they chose to cancel it eventually.

I don't know if that was directed at me, if it was you misunderstood my post. I think a Friday night slot on any Broadcast network would be a bad fit for Dollhouse.

Personally, I think Dollhouse is just some of Joss' weaker works. Though to be fair, Stargate Universe is also a Friday night show and it's succeeding, yet I'd take Dollhouse over SGU any day.

I was a bit upset by Dollhouse's cancellation as well, and am also looking forward to watching the remaining episodes. I was most disappointed that I read it in Variety several weeks after Fox stopped airing Dollhouse on Fridays, so during those weeks I was wondering whether it was cancelled or just on hiatus. I'd been wondering about Chuck, too, but now know that it'll be back in January (for how long, though?).
