Dollhouse Ratings Watch!

Can I ask a question? What in America is considered a good rating? Cuz, ya know, 4.13 million is about the entire population of my country so that seems pretty sweet to me lol

BUT when you're a country with 300 Million people in it, does 4.13 million seem that good?

In the UK, population closing in on 70m, a show on a main TV channel in a Prime Time spot, if it gets less than 2m is generally not renewed.

Yea for new shows, depending on timeslot it can vary big time. And every show is different. Take Mentalist for example which is a brand new series. It started on a crap night (Sunday) and within 3 episodes got bumped to primetime due to the fact it was getting 19 million viewers at one point. That was an awesome suprise for the network.

Shows regularly survive despite wildly fluctuating figures the longer they have been on the air. Smallville's a great example of this, its survived the axe pretty well.

Dollhouse with 4 million is less than expected. I believe they expected either a runaway hit or min around 5 million. So 4 isnt great but its certainly not definitive cancel numbers. If it continues on even a slight downward spiral though, then its gone.
 
look, i dont know why everyone was expecting this to be a blowout show?! dont get me wrong, i want it to be huge. however, since nothing joss does is ever "mainstream," i think the 4.2 million viewers the show has been receiving is phenomenol! i honestly believe this show will survive....even if FOX decides to move it to a new night.

bottom line, if FOX thinks the show isnt getting the ratings that they want, they need to take a serious look at joss's track record. i.e. buffy, angel and firefly. buffy was not a huge hit on tv, but the fanbase is enormous...and still growing. angel was a spinoff for crying out loud and lasted 5 seasons! firefly only aired a few episodes before it got the ax and what came out of that?.......A MOVIE AND DVD SALES THAT ARE THROUGH THE ROOF!!!

anyway, FOX, if youre listening, let joss do his thing. you may not get 14 million viewers a week, but i think deep down inside you knew you werent gonna get that anyway. but stick with joss. he is the man. he always comes through with the best material on tv. his shows intertwine through each season which is what makes joss's material awesome.

Buffy and Angel had decent numbers for a new network and firefly was a mistake. FOX will still only care about ratings over possible future earnings...thats just a bonus.

With Dollhouse still topping the download charts, Fox is not about to simply cancel it.

They need to pick the best upcoming episode, stick it on right after "American Idol," and see what happens.

lol. I watch Ghost Whisperer. And essentially the only reason is because the dresses they put JLH in are absolutely breath taking and she is so freaking hot. 😀

I dont see it lasting long though. It jumped the shark big time with
Jim dying
. I think most are just tuning in now to see how there gonna resolve one of the crappiest storylines ever.

Sure they will.. Fox does not keep or remove a show; ratings and advertisers do that. When the advertisers cant see an ROI and they no longer advertise, then Fox will remove it regardless of how many people download it. They did they same thing with a reality show- half way thru they canceled it from television but the remaining episodes were shown on their website.

Does anyone know how ratings actually work?
Do the numbers only include the people who watched the whole show? Or do they include people who watched part of it, half of it, etc?
Just curious.

the numbers are split by half hrs, normally you see a drop in the 2nd half.

Whomever has a ratings box is who gets counted. If you don't have a box, you don't get counted.
 
The Neilsen ratings you see the day after a show airs do not include any DVR numbers. Those are calculated after a period of 7 days has passed.

So, if the next-day Nielsens showed 4.1 million viewers for episode 3, and the DVR numbers show a 30% increase, that means the total number of viewers within the week was 5.3 million+. Which, by the way, is equivalent to the best seasonal average numbers Buffy ever got at its most popular.

(The numbers in the article above were for the premiere episode, which got 4.7 million viewers according to the Nielsens, +30% DVR for a total of 6.1 million+).

And this doesn't include the download numbers, where the first three episodes have all been chart-toppers.

I doubt too many people are watching Ghost Whisperer INSTEAD of Dollhouse, they aren't even on at the same time.

What FOX should do is advertise on other channels. I see commercials for LOTS of CBS shows on other channels, some NBC too. I've never understood why Fox doesn't do that.
They've had MANY good shows that they've put at horrible times and never advertised. So, unless you were watching FOX, you'd never know what was on or coming on.
The one thing they WOULD do is have Court TV "review" one of their new crime dramas, but oddly, the times of the show were always wrong. And by the time I'd find it, it was 2-3 episodes in and then a month later it would get bumped for some dancing reality show or something.

Well FOX does promote its shows on FX...probably more but I agree they should do more networks too.

And I've said this before, but I guess I'll say it again...sure, in the past FOX has been quick to cancel many a good show. But doesn't it say something that they gave so many offbeat, unique, non-mainstream shows a shot in the first place? And in the past season with Kevin Reilly as president FOX has been patient with everything and every cancellation they've made was not unreasonable. Lots of people point out "New Amsterdam" but that show lost a significant number of viewers every single week yet FOX still aired all of the episodes.

I think people should give the new execs a chance.
