Dollhouse ReWatch: "The Public Eye" (2.5)

United States Senator Daniel Perrin has been trying to bring down the Dollhouse for months, but he becomes much more of a threat when he comes into possession of a material witness: Madeline Costley. High-ranking Rossum executive Matthew Harding (Keith Carradine) orders the staff of the LA Dollhouse to do nothing, claiming Rossum has enough dirt on Perrin to keep him quiet; Echo is the one to point out what it is: Cindy, Perrin's wife, appears to be a Doll herself, presumably of the same "sleeper" variety Madeline herself was. While Echo is imprinted as "Bree," a hooker who discredits Perrin by creating a celebrity sex tape of the two of them together, Adelle asks Ballard to kidnap Madeline against the fear that Cindy will be ordered to kill her. Topher gives him a "disruptor," a device that will incapacitate a Doll... but when Paul uses it on Cindy, she remains unfazed while Perrin breaks down. Perrin, the careless-playboy member of a political dynasty, was "upgraded" by Rossum with ambition and drive; Cindy is his handler. He and Echo, now awakened to their true natures, try to escape, but they are captured by Cindy and taken to the Washington, D.C. Dollhouse and its head programmer, Bennett Halverson (Summer Glau), a socially-awkward young woman with a permanently-paralyzed left arm. Bennett, upon seeing Echo, recognizes her as Caroline Farrell, and then begins to torture her. Ballard is unable to sway Madeline from her decision, and she goes to testify to the Senate. Adelle determines that the LA Dollhouse is being framed and resolves to stop Rossum.

The character Kilo is played by Maurissa Tancharoen. Co-writer of 7 Dollhouse episodes together with now husband Jed Whedon. They also wrote the song "Remains, and Maurissa sang it. It's plays at the end of Epitaph One.

Madeline testifying against the dollhouse? Ok...

"It's like they made her just for me." Ok, we get it. The wife is a doll. Or at least that's what you want us to believe.

Phone rings. Suspence. Time to activate the sleeper? No, just Perrin checking in.

Topher being excited over Kilos name. He's so alone. He should come to europe. 😉

Paul realizing that you never really leave the dollhouse. He's got the right to be pissed.

Once again people try and convince a doll that they're not real by using logic. I guess I should too but talk about pointless.

Surprise! Plan not going as thought is one thing. Discovering who is the doll though. Huge deal.

"Echo just kidnapped the conspiracy."

Echo and Perrin realizing that they're dolls. How would you react? I think they handle it quite well. 😉

Pauls being a bad ass again. With his hands tied behind his back. No surprise here.

Her character doesn't seem very nice though.

She knows Caroline. Nice twist. Doesn't seem to like her very much.

Is it just me, or the way Echo walks when Boyd gets her for her treatment is just not right for an empty doll? I know she has all her personnalities, but she wasn't walking like that before... It kinda reminds me of Faith's attitude, but turned way down.

So it's not Perrin wife's who is a doll, but Perrin himself. What a twist!

I love Paul's fighting scenes 😀

Perrin is a Doll!! I was so surprised & shocked the first time.
House against house- this is getting so good!
"You said you freed me. When someone's free they get to make mistakes. Am I free?" That whole November/Paul sequence is sad and poignant. Time to change my banner.
Intro of Bennett- at first I'm unsure if she's the D.C. equivalent of Adelle or Topher, I think that misdirect is purposeful.
Playing with Caroline- wow, disturbing.

I was really shocked at this episode. First you can give people imprints to be better people. Hello The Matrix. It just shows that being in power and having a lot of money means that anything is possible.

I feel sorry for Madeline. She has no way of leaving the Dollhouse and is clearly still being manipulated by them.

I like the flashback's that they do with Echo's previous engagements to show were she's getting her moves from. It links nicely with season 1, because to be honest, I think all the things that they drilled into us in season 1 is being pushed to the side. Like Dolls arent supposed to remember and if they do its bad, yet Echo is having open conversations with Boyd about remembering.

I love Topher. Him and Paul are hillarious together. It seems that the imprinters that the Dollhouse hire are crazy. Although Topher goes less psychotic than Summer's character. The cliff hanger was very good!
