This is a sequel to the "Angel Season 5 vs. Buffy Season 7" thread only this time we're going over the conclusions of shows that were cut before their prime. Which was the most satisfying ending?

Whilst I love all things Firefly I think a second season would've done it better justice than a film. And Dollhouse S2 was just so amazing I'm gonna have to go with Dollhouse. But I love them both. :]

The difference between comparing Buffy and Angel is that they are at least similar shows. Firefly and Dollhouse have nothing to do with one another. The only thing they have in common is mutual writers, directors, a creator, and an actor; You cannot compare them in this way and be fair about it.

On top of that, Dollhouse was not cut in the way Firefly was. Dollhouse had warning it was going to get canceled, and they set up their second season as such. Because of that, Dollhouse's ending was much more fulfilling and encompassing. Firefly had Serenity, yes, but at the end of the day, there were still many, many plot lines that didn't get seen through.

Again, though, they are completely separate shows and it is ridiculous to try and compare them.

Totally agree. They were both excellent, unmissable shows, but quite, quite different.
Serenity was good, but I loved Dollhouse season 2 because it was a good final season. So I'm going with Dollhouse Season 2.

mm it's quite a tricky question beacause both ended well, i suppose it's hard to choose. I was going to go with Dollhouse season 2, it ended better imo i suppose. mmmm

Though I agree with SlayerofVampyrs, saying that it's hard to compare the two because they got so few similarities to touch in on, I will still say that for me Dollhouse season 2 had a more satisfying ending.

Serenity is brilliant and couldn't have been much better (well there is one thing I'd change...) and I always enjoy watching it. But it still leaves questions... it still makes you want more because it feels like you haven't gotten all that you could get.

Dollhouse season 2 quite nicely wraps everything up for you and does it in a very emotionally satisfying way. Both "The Hollow men" and "Eptitath 2; the return" are sheer brilliance showing off all characters at their best without neglecting anybody. That's rare.

Unbearably curious as to what the one thing you'd change is. Wash?
Mindfiend agrees: Unbearably curious as to what the one thing you'd change is. Wash?

You hit the nail on the head there 🙂

While I agree they aren't really comparable, in feel and the way they were able to wrap the projects up, I found Dollhouse Season 2 a lot more satisfying.

That is simply for the reason, that overall, I liked the concept of Firefly more and was very disappointed with the Serenity movie. I know I'm in the minority with that view here. It just didn't really feel right to me and left me with a sour aftertaste.

Dollhouse Season 2 however really picked up after a couple of episodes - and I don't know if those were written and filmed when they found out they were cancelled but I can imagine so, since they have a very "let's wrap this up and good" feel to them - and were some of the best television I have seen. I'm not even exaggerating here. That they had the two Epitaphs, since I'm also a sucker for post-Apocalypse stories, only helped. (I know, I know, Epitaph I isn't part of S2, but still.)

So, yes, Dollhouse Season 2 it is for me. By a longshot.
