Do you think they use the "real" personalities of the Dolls (like Caroline) as part of other imprints Topher creates?

I get the feeling that they might use very slight traces of their real personalities mixed in with others but obviously not alot to make them self aware. Although maybe they did that with Alpha and its partly why he went a little nuts and killed most of the previous dolls.
Definitely. The first couple episodes, especially the one where Echo is a negotiator, seem to indicate that they use "real" personalities, so why not use the ones they have the easiest access to? It would be interesting to see if one of the Dollhouse's clients ever wanted a partner for an anti-animal cruelty protest. Maybe we would see Caroline appear?

Oh, now I'm really hoping we get an ep where Echo is Victor, Victor is Sierra, and Sierra is Echo.
Aside from that, now that I've seen Echoes, I think they probably do. The care that Adelle takes when choosing a new Active....that makes me think they have to be more than a pretty face. They must have something else going for them, and the personality might well be it.

I think that maybe their "default" personality is pretty close to what they were actually like at about age five or six, minus certain specific elements like actual name or family memories. Certainly some memories must remain intact just for common efficiency. Otherwise the dolls would have to be re-taught everything from potty training to how to speak and even walk.
