I've been thinking about getting my own domain name to host my blog and help with advertising my writing, since I actually have writing credits now. But I don't know anything about it. I don't know what I need, how to go about getting it, or anything. About the only thing I know is HTML. I can build the thing if I can just get it.

Any advice?

I have no advice, but once you figure it out, let me know and help me! ;)
I saw something about that when I was doing the Google Ad-words, try there. They may even want to advertise on your site.
There's the phone companies, they should be able to point you to the info.
Try asking some-one that's got a site, such as Buffy Summers, although a PM might be best.
Let me know how you get on.

Have a look at the Computer magazines, they quite often have free stuff on building a web-site. More importantly to you, there's the info on domain providers.

My boyfriend works for an internet company, if you need help then drop me a line and he'll be able to lead you in the write(hehe - geddit?) direction.

Lame joke lmao
I have my own domain, and look after a couple of others for other people. If you want any help just PM me. 🙂 I've set up a few domains & web hosting for people now, and as I offer sub-domains free on my own site, I also have a quick FTP tutorial & free FTP programs to enable people to learn how to upload their files to their sites. 🙂

All in all, registering your own domain and setting up a website is relatively easy, the hardest part is actually coding your site, but if you already know html, then the rest should be a breeze. 🙂

I can also recommend a good hosting provider, with whom you can also register your domain name, and they are very reasonably priced, and have very little downtime.
